This is the best run I've ever seen in SORR, no TAS, just hardwork and dedication! And here we have Max mastered at the highest level possible. Congratulations from Brazil in 2022!
Came to just watch a few minutes out of curiosity as to how exactly you manage this on such difficulty, but the informative subtitles are super interesting and made me stay and watch the entire thing. Great vid.
This is for pc, easy download almost any pc can run it, plug in a ps or xbox controller and enjoy the ride, the game has a lot more features than u think
@@mintvanilla3203 I didn’t know there were commented subtitles. You should mention it in the video description, or favor the above comment. I have to watch this again sometime :D
I didn't expect this run to be so captivating, I ended up watching it in one sit, I am seriously impressed by the sheer amount of dedication and knowledge put into it. The written commentary was just the cherry on top, providing lots of useful information and trivia not many people would have picked up just by watching. Kudos to the runner for this absolutely remarkable performance!
This is the first I've seen of this and max has always been my favorite character to pick when I'd play with my bro many years ago. You played max like a pro and hopefully I can get this good with him as well
This is for pc, easy download almost any pc can run it, plug in a ps or xbox controller and enjoy the ride, the game has a lot more features than u think
You totally own this game. Those strategies at elevator sections in Stage 7, 8 was absolutely fantastic. Nice commentary, too. Thanks for putting up such an awesome playthrough.
Kickass and admirable! Thanks for the nearly flawless (as good as it's humanly going to get, really) run! The remake staff did a superb job with this; it seems to have great replay value too. As a guy who grew up with the SoR series, getting my hands on it is mandatory.
I have to say I was pretty worried about you in some parts of this route especially at stage 7 those Thailand fighters really wrecked me when I did this especially with max, but you made me proud man! Good goin on this playthrough u should do more but on different routes!
Thanks! I'd say the elevators in stages 7 and 8 took me the most time to figure out how to beat without dying. I hope to do another run of this game some day.
This is, by far, the best SOR2 playthrough I've seen on RUclips, in terms of playing skill and visual quality. Fantastic work, you should consider doing more SOR remake runs in future!
Thank you! Ever since I recorded this run, I've been wanting to do at least one more. I had the whole thing planned out, but life got in the way. Oh well, maybe one day.
Thank you for your kind words! I usually don't slide much because it would take longer to kill enemies by relying too much on sliding. I mainly use slides to set up a combo or Atomic Drop. But I do abuse slides in certain sections of stage 7 and stage 8.
@ Mint Vanilla: It's okay there. In the end slide is a crowd control goody or in case of 3star a solid way of devastating opponents cornered fast. But for an Atomic Drop Rate, like yours it's legitimate & highly amusing. ;) Though I wonder how you pull off that sudden turning into Atomic Drop, you sometimes get into while you seemingly stand very close up but still in front of an enemy beating him. Wonder if this playstyle still applies to v5.1... But YOU use all of Max repertoir very effectively, which is very rare! Thank you!
Oh okay, I see what you mean. You do not have to be physically behind an enemy. The sprites just need to overlap, then move in the same direction that the enemy is facing, and you will automatically grab the enemy from behind. This worked in the original SOR2 game as well.
I love what's been done with the soundtrack - stays faithful, but just ramped up and feels more modern! Oh and awesome run with Max - definitely my favourite character of the series.
Man the memories as a kid back then just awesome to see what bommergames have done is amazing guys you have made me a proud Sega fanboy bro the music is the best
This is for pc, easy download almost any pc can run it, plug in a ps or xbox controller and enjoy the ride, the game has a lot more features than u think
After years, Streets of Rage Remake got 5.2 patch, and Streets of Rage 4 released. I love the fact that sor4 devs didn't forget about remake. Great run!
Holy crap, this is crazy! I typically stick to SOR2 Skate and SOR2 Axel whenever I feel the need to get frustrated at mania. I never won as max on mania because it seems he gets overwhelmed by all the flanking, but you planned this near perfectly. I was awaiting how you handled the last part of stage 7 on this route, it seems that is the point where I lose so many lives just trying to clear it, no matter how much practice I get. Good job!
That's nuts. I beat the game on Mania with Adam and the switching to Rudra. The first three levels were the SoR2 route, but then I took the alternate route in Stage 3 in the amusement park attraction and stuck to the SoR1 route the rest of the way.
Max is the best character imho. His slide attack dodge high attack and very fast, his other blitz attack has some kind of invincibility. And his damage is crazy.
No, this is not tool-assisted. This took several months of dying over and over again. I mention most of my tactics in the commentary, and the video description contains the options I used. Otherwise, feel free to ask me anything about the run.
22:10 For the very life of us, we still don't know why they named one of them _Sug.Q_ since it sounds very *VERY* close to _Suck_, but not only that, if you were to pronounce it to a Swedish person, the word gets very close to the word _Sug Kuk_ which means _Suck Dick_. 25:00 Ladies and Gentlemen, *The Ultimate Warrior!* 31:30 Izayoi, appropriate name in conjunction with the theme and background. 54:00 Z.Kusano I believe was named after a Japanese Wrestler.. I think. A most excellent video!
Little bummed that Max doesn't have an add-on to his slide once he gets stars, but overall this is the most fun beat-em-up game of all time and this remake is still better than anything Sega ever put out.
Hey i have to say that when i played as Max i could only reach to r.bear and then i would always lose BUT YOU, made me very proud. Expecialy that your on maniac mode.I have to say a very well good job and do more runs with max pls.
Ah-freaking-mazing! Respect! Though I'm wondering how the combo into back grab setup works? Is it about how close you are to your opponent when you start the combo or is it about walking in a little bit after each hit?
I have not played the remake. It looks pretty sweet. However, it looks significantly easier than the console, even on Mania: - The A/I attacks look slower. On the console, three guys can get in your face and drain half of your health with a flurry of punches before you can even respond. - The collision detection seems to be more forgiving for the player. For instance, on the console there is no way that you can slide under a thrown knife. Or hit the fiery breath guy in the middle of a fire run with the sword without getting taken down. - Obviously the SOR3 moves and rules help but I won't knock it for that. - There are some instances where the A/I is invulnerable for a short time on the console that aren't here. Like for instance, when facing the Wolverine-like guy for the first time, you just can't wail on him with the sword when he get's up, on the console he'll be invulnerable for a second and jump away or run at you. All that said, still an impressive feat here.
- I think the AI attacks are about the same. They will attack you as soon as you are within range, and you can see at 46:05 that a bunch of guys took off a significant chunk of health. Perhaps this looks slower because the player characters are faster (with running and rolling) compared to the original? - No idea about the collision detection. - There are also some instances where the AI is invulnerable for a short time in Remake that aren't in the original game. For example, Vulture, Nail, and Z.Kusano in the stage 8 elevator can all be grabbed upon wakeup in the original but not in Remake (they'll just auto-grab you), making that elevator even more difficult than it already was.
At first I was gonna say you used a mod to speed up Max's flurry attack but then I remembered with SOR3 pause delay there's no freeze between hits. That reduces recovery time during attacks and prevents most enemies from knocking you out of your offense, but it also takes the impact out of the moves. It's really noticeable with Max.
This was a great run Mint and I especially loved the commentary you threw in! It gave a lot of insight into your actions and the AI. Have you considered making another run of this game to share using a different character and/or route?
chicobo329 SOR3 characters deal less damage than SOR2 characters, in order to remain faithful to their original games. Some of their attacks work differently. I use SOR2 Skate.
glad you could change the graphics to its original pixel state- as the default for me was smooth mush! the music in the original game was still good and very much had a punchier sound for the boss music form. give the music files are in a folder you can access i wonder if you can swap it of for your own tunes!
I always thought Max was the worst character because he's just too slow, gets surrounded, and his dash + B can't knock people down for crowd control. You really played him to perfection here. 0 deaths too? Ridiculously good job.
Ignoring the blatant flamebaiting from PersonaX, Max is indeed on of the better characters in the game. His slide gives him a fast, mobile attack that can be used either to close the distance, evade attacks, or knock down an entire group of baddies in one swipe. He's basically a traditional big slow brawler with a way to ignore the "slow" part.
Yes, basically, this was like a new metagaming for Max that I was seeing for the first time. And as you can see from my comment, I said *thought*, as in, past tense, meaning those thoughts no longer exist after watching the author's gameplay. Basically, this gameplay reminded me of Dhalsim from the original Street Fighter 2. He's a very slow jumping hero with attacks that can leave you vulnerable, so for casual gamers, Dhalsim is not a good pick. However, for people experienced with Dhalsim, he's actually one of the best/cheesiest characters because of his infinite combos like slide + medium punch throw.
Ron Lum Nitpicking here, but your other comment (specifically, "I always thought") is open to interpretation. If you said "I had thought until now" or "I used to think", then I'd have known that you've changed your mind about Max. Regardless, you know that Max is amazing in this game, so all's well and good here.
I played SOR3 more than 2 back in the day, and I'm STILL shocked at how much damage Max does. giving him a dash in the remake was a HUGE thing. He's honestly a bit overpowered in this version, even with the effort it takes to win with him.
Thanks! Actually I had wanted to do route 1 with Skate back then, and had gotten pretty good at it too, but I got sidetracked by life. Maybe one day I'll go back to it.
This is what you get when a work of art inspires passionate fans to perfect the source material into a masterpiece. (And also when companies don't listen to fan demands of a remake)
Very impressive !!! You probably went through hell not skipping the cutscenes and keeping them for audience. I wouldn't do it in this kind of hardcore run if I were you. This is taking too much time and is too boring to see it hundreds of times. Anyway , you encouraged me to do my own run in near future. Is Max the best character in sorr ?
Thanks! Yeah, it especially stinks losing to Mr. X and having to redo the entire thing. But on the upside, the cutscenes were a nice break for me between stages. It's hard to pick any one character as the best character. It may also depend on what kind of run you're doing. Personally, I like Max. He takes some getting used to, but he does a ton of damage if you can position him properly.
Mint Vanilla I'm gonna beat the game on the hardest setting possible , no death , Max (never liked him before watching your video :)). Just like your run. I played this game when it was released and then I thought mania is not beatable without dying. I focused on purchasing all items from shop and made a map of the entire game :-) Then stopped playing until now. Now I work on Bare knuckle 3 (GEN) , Blaze , very hard , no death. I accomplished it with ease long time ago but I had problems recording it.
SCOOPARCADE Good luck! The reason I use Max is because he is capable of very high damage. SORR Mania is very difficult to not die in, so I try to kill enemies quickly before they can kill me. The best defense is a good offense, right? Especially on the SOR2 route, the stage 7 elevator doesn't give you enough time on the clock to play it safe, and the stage 8 elevator will destroy you with the wrestler and two kickboxers.
Masterstylezero On the other hand though, if he made frequent enough use of it, it would cost a hell of a lot more health - the less filled the special bar is, the more health a special costs.
Great job max is a beast! Maybe thats why Sega took him out of SOR3 :-/ how do you record your gameplay without using a phone?? I would like to update mine on very hard or mania
This is the best run I've ever seen in SORR, no TAS, just hardwork and dedication! And here we have Max mastered at the highest level possible. Congratulations from Brazil in 2022!
Everything from the stage design to the remixed soundtrack is amazing
*Insert Cole Phelps doubt meme*
Still is a fun game with good sound tracks
Holy shit, Max can run in this? It only took roughly 20 years. But he learned!
Mark Robertson He finally started doing cardio
And Max can roll over in this too, and probably sit!
Mark Robertson
Yep yep yep. The one thing that held him back in SOR2.
Funny fact, with his running he is even slower. I bet i could out run you with real Max.
he finally realize having muscle power without cardio stamina is meaningless

I do not understand what you mean by "sudden turning into Atomic Drop". Do you have an example?

The flying tackle is quite possibly the most broken move in the game-perfect for a SOR2 Mania run. ^_^
Music is brilliant, especially the boat stage.

Kind of hilarious that the baseball stadium only has one bat compared to four pipes lying around.
That music is one of a kind!!
I need this in my life
I wonder where that guy is aiming at 2:06
Streets of rage 4 is already here
Not a bad game, but I feel it could have been better
you guys are the best the only difficulty i play on is hardest it kinda sucks though.if only they made this to a real game.
amazing skills!
great video.. love the annotations
great commentary!
I've learned from this gameplay that Max is an weapon of mass destruction!😮😮😮
Damn, and here I am struggling to make it through without using a continue, with an AI partner and police. Awesome run here.
Don't see anyone playing Max this fast. Cool playthrough m8 :)
Will you do more of SORR?
I hope to do at least one more someday. No idea when, though.
Cool. Will be waiting :)

I have not played the remake. It looks pretty sweet. However, it looks significantly easier than the console, even on Mania:
- The A/I attacks look slower.
For example, Vulture, Nail, and Z.Kusano in the stage 8 elevator can all be grabbed upon wakeup in the original but not in Remake (they'll just auto-grab you), making that elevator even more difficult than it already was.
happy 10 years of this video

Good luck!
Usually you lost some life when you use your special move, but not on this play, that why he don't die. Great video though!
Masterstylezero On the other hand though, if he made frequent enough use of it, it would cost a hell of a lot more health - the less filled the special bar is, the more health a special costs.
There is special gauge - when it is full you can use special move without wasting health and then it regenerates, that's perfectly normal.
Great job max is a beast! Maybe thats why Sega took him out of SOR3 :-/ how do you record your gameplay without using a phone?? I would like to update mine on very hard or mania
Everyone knows MAX is a God tier character! my mans always been my favourite! hes S tier!
