Why do so many people pay up front for work? Yes you can pay for the materials, but do not pay up front for labor. If they say they won't do it, then you saved yourself a lot of money.
@AW-yv9sq probably the gate is custom, they may not have any of that size so a complete custom gate of that size and similar material ( prob stronger ) would cost a lot. The rest of the fence doesn't need to be as strong but for drive way that is probably steel not aluminum gate, heavy and expensive.

Did you paint the ends of the fence you cut off? It will almost immediately start to rust if you don’t protect the bare metal.
