    I lived just outside of Pensacola and lived in the same neighborhood that Roy lived in. I saw him often usually from a vehicle. One thing that I must point out, Roy Jones appreciated his fans. I luckily saw and met him here in the UK in 2010, it was a sports dinner for him to speak and sign for everyone in Nottingham. Loads of Gallagher gym at the time were there is and even ant crolla! I spent time later chatting to Roy after and also had a beer with his manager.
      There is a saying sometime meeting your heroes was a bad thing if they wasn't what you expected, he had so much time for everyone and was a total gent... I never got to see him in person in his prime at the time but I was lucky living in Brazil before coming back to the UK we got all the American cards so I grew up with him and mayweather where as in the UK it was Lewis, naseem and then later Hatton. Then RUclips came and all the guys here i knew then saw him which was great...

One thing that I must point out, Vinny didn't appreciate his fans. The only guy I put above Jones is when Jones started slowing down and at that point I was like "Okay, James Toney has the most natural talent I've seen ina guy in a long fucking time." Imagine if James Toney trained like Rocky Marciano. I'm as convinced as I can be that he would've wrecked Roy
      But anyway, Jones, B-Hop, Toney, Oscar, those were my guys in the 90s and early 2000s, I also think Oscar beat Floyd Mayweather in their first fight (that said I watched it only once, I was younger, watned Oscar to win and I have one eye and shrapnel in my head and back from Iraq so...that's just a friendlier way of me saying "I'm Nick Fury/Rooster COgburn/Snake Plissken, but not nearly as effective AND I have brain damage...so more like....Homer Plissken or Simpson Fury or something)

      Tom J well.. there was no carlos monzon at the time... or marvin haggler... so its ez to make that remark or ray robinson..... of course, he never fought calzaghe during his youth...... it would've been great... he fought calzaghee later in his 30s, and man was he handled terribly.... so see, he (AS WELL AS MANY BLACKS) was all hype... sure he had skills, and speed, but he was not the best boxer of all time.

    • @tomj4184
      @tomj4184 9 лет назад

      ***** Prior to his move to heavy and back, he was way ahead of his competition. I have not seen anyone before or since who was so superior in skill to his opponents. Especially as a middleweight where he had one punch knockout power (Thornton KO comes to mind). His punches had this really unique sound, like a scalpel slicing the air. How many fighters could you identify just from the sound of their punch alone? While he never had the opponents that Leonard had with Hearns/Hagler/Duran to cement his status, he still had some pretty impressive wins, beating a young Hopkins and a young James Toney. Roy may not have been a great boxer in the conventional sense, but that is a testament to his extreme physical gifts, he didn't need to be. Its hard to say with any certainly how good he truly was, one of the great frustrations was that he didn't have the best competition...nonetheless there is no denying his raw talent, a once in a lifetime caliber athlete IMO.

    • @jesus7es7dios7
      @jesus7es7dios7 9 лет назад

      Tom J well tom, that's according to your estimation... but it doesn't take a superman to beat any mean..... it simply takes a good boxer to beat jones jr.... and by the way, jones jr. was mostly hype..... his impressive wins were against lesser opposition.... now, if this Russian guy who fought Hopkins on the last fight were to be around 20 years ago, jones would've suffered his first loss... this Russian guy is very solid and tough... and hits like bricks.... so... he was very lucky to be in a time where there not too great fighters.... that's it.

    To me , Roy Jones Junior is one of the best of all times, probably 2nd after Muhammed Ali. As I've been in sport and watching fights nearly for a half Century! My calculations are based on character, speed, boxing ability, skills, taking punches, technique, punching, jabbing and the way standing in the ring..

      Федор Михалыч actually, champion in 6 divisions, he didnt won any belt on featherweight, and his "belt" on superlightweight is pretty much shit, and is not recognized by any decent organization.

      In my opinion Roy Jones Junior went on for far too long and was getting beaten by C - D class fighters (Green, Lebedev) and Ali did the same (Spinks, Berbeck) Pac Man is a warrior but its very hard not to say fighters like De La Hoya, Lennox, Julian Jackson, Hagler.... The list goes on.
