    2nd week with my '07 650r. New rider. Taught myself with youtube videos. 1st day was to scared to come out of 1st. 2nd day got up to 3rd. By day four i was doing 80 with the biggest smile on my face ever. I dropped her back down to 3rd and got my wits about myself. But not before screaming yeaaaaaaa and woohoooo😅 definitely been enjoying it. Gets over 50mpg also i think. Perfect starter bike in my opinion but i also know how to drive a stickshift car so im sure that helped with understanding how the clutch works

      Well done on the self learning but please get real training that's focused on you. A genuine instructor who rides with you and observes you will see what you're getting right getting wrong and what you need to do to be a better.
      Do you do your life saver over shoulder in time?
      Lane positioning.
      Turning.
      U turns.
      Dominate your lane.
      Mirror checks.
      Your observations and forward looking, and far forward looking. Calling out what you see.
      It just seems nuts to us in Europe that Americans can legally ride a motorbike on the road that they don't know how to ride. Do you even have a 1 day basic training road course? That has to be completed here before we can ride on the road. Basic controls, and then basic road riding. Not an actual motorbike licence test, this is CBT compulsory basic training is just to enable your learner licence.

    Ninja 650s are the absolute perfect starter bike, I learned to ride on a shadow 750 I loved it but it was a little difficult to learn on because of the weight, moved onto the ninja 650 and after a year of having it I’m starting to look at something a little quicker. Blast to ride, pops wheelies, great in corners, quick for what it is, and super maneuver able like sean was saying. Even if I do get another bike (hopefully an r6 or cbr600 but open to suggestions from yall) I’m keeping my ninja 650 never had more fun, and most of my friends who started on faster and bigger 600s and nakeds still can’t keep up in the corners.

    I bought my 2008 650r in this same color scheme last summer, except mine has the matching red wheels. It been a great bike so far. I have 6 years of riding experience and I still went with this because I wanted the sporty look and feel without the uncomfortable seating position on a super sport. It's more than enough power to have fun with on the road and handles well. I rode a super sport one time. My back and wrists were hurting less than 10 minutes into the ride.

    I've been riding my 2006 650R, exactly the same colors as yours, since 2012. It's been across the country several times and is totally rideable for 12-14 hours a day with no discomfort. It's a great sport tourer/commuter and is a lot of fun on the track as well. Now that mine is getting up there in age I'm going to replace it with a new mile eater and turn the 650R into a dedicated track bike. They race these in the lightweight twins class on the Isle of Man and they're way faster than my skill can keep up with.

    I bought that exact model color new in 2006. Very comfy. Very flickable. Very fun. On the highway the wind protection wasn't great. I had the factory touring screen on it and after 150 miles my shoulders and neck were sore. I am 6'2" though. Enter 2020 and I found myself trading in my 2011 Ninja 1000 in on my 2020 Ninja 650 KRT ABS! MUCH BETTER! I bought the factory touring windscreen for this and it's all day fun! I commute 50 miles a day and never look back at my 1000. It's just more comfy and much more fun overall. Highly recommend the Hindle full exhaust for the 2017 and newer models. It's LOUD! Like straight pipe loud! Like Harley riders look over and have a WTF look on their faces loud. I actually bought the suppressor for it! But I still want a ZX14 R!!! Hook me up!

  • @nunyabusiness896
    @nunyabusiness896 4 года назад +3

    All of the people saying 650's aren't that fast are either making stuff up or have never ridden one properly. The throttle isn't a short travel throttle like a 636 or other supersport, you have to really twist it to go full throttle. If you just give it a light twist it will not accelerate hard. However, at legal speeds, the 650 is every bit as fast and is actually faster off the line, largely due to the gearing and powerband. Don't take my word for it, look up the 636 on this channel and you'll see it basically bogs its way to 60 mph in 1st gear meanwhile the 650 rips through 1st and 2nd and when you factor in the half second or so for the gearshift you'll realize you're actually pulling harder in the 650 than possibly even some liter bikes. If you're not trying to get yourself killed or put in jail from ridiculous speeding on public roads or riding very long/fast racetracks, the 650 is really the better bike. I think there's just a lot of benchracing sportbike riders that have never gone full throttle on any fast bike and want to pretend they did.

    • @morrisonn5781

      As someone who just went from a Ninja 650 to a 636 supersport, I can say the Ninja 650 is absolutely 100% an awesome bike. I rode it until I was maxing it out and outgrew it. As that same person, who now rides a 636, I can also say it is absolutely 100% NOT as fast as the 636 LOL. Not even in the same league.. not trashing the 650. Great bike. Comparing the two in a competitive riding scenario is just silly though.

I’ve never been on a 4 cylinder yet but I don’t think I’ll ever get one because it just seems like too much bike for me. If I was 6ft 200lbs I’d be saying different. Perhaps that is the reason for the difference of opinions. Different sized guys have different preferences and experiences trying out the same engine.

    • @nunyabusiness896
      @nunyabusiness896 4 года назад +1

      @@robertp9370 I'm actually pretty close to those specs and it's still a rocketship of a bike. On a track I could definitely see a 600 4-cyl being the better choice, but on the streets there is no way I'd choose one over the 650 twin. I guarantee most people are just not realizing the throttle has longer travel or are doing something else wrong. Motorcycles have a really low cost barrier to entry so you get a lot of idiots in it that really don't understand how anything works.

    • @robertp9370
      @robertp9370 4 года назад +1

      NunyaBusiness you know what, you make a really good point about the throttle being different on both bikes. And the half second shift. Both of those are factors to why the 650R is probably just as fast at legal speeds as the zx6r. Very good points. Oh and the low barrier to entry point as well, people probably aren’t as analytical as us to be able to see how valuable 650s are to the right rider to achieve an equivalent performance at legal speeds not to mention at a much lower cost and risk. It’s perfect. And the more weight I lose the more of a rocket ship this thing becomes good god it is as fast as a zx6r at legal speeds but nobody seems to understand that this bike has the same amount of smile inducing torque. That’s right, both have 66nm of torque which means the 650R pulls just as hard with 2 cylinders than the zx6r with 4, [at legal speeds] the only drawback is the fact that you have to shift into second sooner and is the only reason other than someone not knowing how to twist the throttle enough that the 0-60 time might be slower. And it is hands down wayyy more comfortable to ride, gets up to 25% better fuel economy, costs 30-50% less used, and corners and rips through twisties in a way a zx6r never could. It’s overall a way more superior bike!!! At least in my opinion unless your that guy who wants to go 150mph all the time.

    I feel like, if ur YOUNG and starting out how to ride then yes start out on a less powerful bike. But if you have any kind of self control then you can ride whatever you want. Be responsible and fight the temptation to go max throttle every ride and you will be perfectly fine. I feel like it’s the 16-20 demographic that creates that stigma because honestly 90% of them want a super sport to go bananas on and they are not ready for that kind of power. Even if mature you won’t be ready but you will be smart enough to take it easy and slowly learn the bike the right way

Ninja 650 at full power is 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and 1/4 mile in 12 seconds, this comes from numerous benchmark sources. The 650 is actually faster off the line than supersports, too, due to gearing and the powerband. I totally agree with you 100%.especially if you are a beginner, or if you're going to Daly Drive the motorcycle. The 650r Ninja is really a great bike for anyone if you're going to Daly drive it especially if you're going to be driving around the city or neighborhoods it's got plenty of torque it's still got plenty of power and it does good in the twisty still it's fun I just yesterday went down the freeway with a passenger on the back and it was like 20 mi an hour traffic in Oregon here and I did 142 hold time down there just riding between the cars and my buddy filmed it so you can still have plenty of fun on that bike and it does awesome in the twisties and you know it'll get up there enough to make you have fun on a Stihl it's just not as fast as r6r, but plenty of power to have fun with.I have been riding pretty much my whole life since I was six years old and I'm 46 now I have loaned many bikes right now I have my r6r that I only ride on the track and I love it it's the best track bike there is I believe besides the 700 rotary CW but I can't afford $120,000, LOL. I also own a 1050 Sprint ST and that has tons of torque and Power, but I never get to use it because

    I had a 2012 ex650 and I had friends who had our ones and Triumph Speed Triple and stuff like that and out on the highways and Roads riding around when we start to having a little fun they're supposedly much faster bikes could not get away from me this bike is a bike that's capable of doing about 130 miles an hour and unless you're talking about doing track days or being on a nice big open Highway this bike is just as capable as any other bike but is more forgiving and more Nimble meaning that if you are a skilled rider and you know what you're doing as far as shifting and how to control the power on this bike even if the other person is on a much faster bike they still can't get away from you if they do not have the skill to back it up you could have a friend who is on an R6 and you could be on an R3 and if the friend on the R6 is not a good writer but you are most likely if you're in anything but a nice open straight away you're going to keep up with the much bigger are 6 on an R3 and probably even surpassed the person on the R6 when you were talking about bikes that are capable of hitting triple-digit speeds especially for most people in most writing situations it primarily comes down to skill not the bike you're on how much power has or how fast it is to give you an example I've been writing for many years I started out as a little kid on a dirt bike and because I have the writing skill level there it took me only about 6 months to get bored with my 2016 Ducati Monster 821 because it was not as light in nipple is my 2012 ex650 that I traded in for it now I have switched to a 2014 Suzuki Burgman 400 and I enjoy that bike much more than I enjoy that 2016 Ducati Monster eat too when I had because my general writing situation doesn't even allow me to go fast enough to even get the monster up into 6 gear versus the Burgman which is a lot funner at slower speeds because of the different type of animal it is also another prime example is all of my friends who were on bigger faster bikes that had more horsepower and better top speeds in my Ninja 650 most of those guys those six hundred and thousand CC Sport Bikes were their first bikes and they were still getting used to them where is that was not my first bike to 6:50 and I got used to handling a street bike really quickly because I rode Street sport bikes having gone from dirt bikes out in fields and on dirt roads so going from dirt bikes to street bikes was not a massive changing point for me I was already pretty used to being able to do a lot of the things that I do but the buddy of mine who had the Triumph Speed Triple actually it's a Triumph Daytona which is an even faster bike because he got that as his first bike and wrote it around a while he ended up getting into a motorcycle accident and dying and if he was a more skilled writer or on a smaller more forgiving more agile bike than a Triumph Daytona he probably would have been able to make the accent a lot worse or avoid it altogether going out and buying like an R6 for your first motorcycle especially if you have virtually no experience riding motorcycles is a dumb idea you don't have the skill there to be a good rider but you ride your bike around and you get used to it and then you think you have enough skill like my buddy on his R6 thought he was Rossi was riding through a curvy industrial area over near his house with a speed limit of 40 miles an hour doing about a hundred miles an hour went down on his bike luckily only screwed his knee up primarily just road rash didn't cause too much damage to his bike but I got used to his bike and thought that he had the skill to do that when he didn't and because he did not have the skill he did not have the knowledge he needed to be able to react properly being on a 2011 R6 which is a much less forgiving bike than he should have been on but unlike me he is on the R6 for many many years since 2015 and since 2015 the Suzuki Burgman 400 is my V motorcycle because I've kept changing it up thinking I want something different when realistically I just should have stuck in the 600cc sport class / 650 CC Sport class bikes for new writers who are just getting their license who don't have experience riding dirt bikes and their experience and titles taking the writing course that allowed them to get their motorcycle license I would not suggest going with something like a 125 CC Honda Grom or z125 or even a scooter I would suggest getting onto a three or four or even 500cc sport or cruiser bike riding that for a season and then moving on to the bigger class 600 and 650 CC sport bikes riding that for a season or two and then moving on to whatever other bike you want unless you are happy with the bike you have one year on a CBR 300 or 250 or a Ninja 250 or 300 and then switching to like a 650 CC sportbike which is going to be a 2 cylinder versus a four cylinder it's going to have a much more forgiving power bands and power delivery would be a great idea for somebody and if you were thinking about trading in that 650 bike of yours I would definitely see about arranging for an extended two or three night test ride of the bike you are thinking about buying before actually pulling the trigger and getting the bike because long-term you're going to find that you want the power acceleration and top speed of the 650 but you also want the maneuverability and ease of writing of the three for 500cc bikes which the 6:50 class bikes will give you that as well the 650cc bikes are a good mix of Both Worlds they have enough performance and torque to satisfy the experience writers who are used too much bigger bikes but they are easy enough to ride in maneuverable enough and forgiving enough to deal with and put up with the inexperienced writers who are coming off of their small 250 and 300 CC motorcycles on to the bigger class bikes I've had my Burgman for only a few weeks now and now I'm kind of wishing that I would have gone ahead and got another Ninja 650 or a CBR 650 instead of getting the Burgman but I am still happy with my 2014 Burgman 400 but trust me there are times that I wish that I had the top speed of the 6:50 or 600 class bikes and the performance of the 650 and 600 class bikes but I still do enjoy my Burgman 400 despite the limited performance that has compared to the bikes I just got out of writing and for those of you who or new writers and used to scooters in are going from a hundred and 50 cc or 125cc to a bigger bike the 400 r good bikes it is a Highway capable bike still and I can Cruise it down the highway at 75 even 85 miles an hour if I want but it is way more fun or riding it around town at 45 miles an hour versus writing my big 800cc sport bike at 45 miles an hour which feels like nothing on that thing but if I was on a 650cc sportbike I don't think I would have been disappointed I know for a fact it still would have been fun to ride even at the lower speeds my 2012 ex650 was capable of getting up into 6th Gear and going six gear to the end of its power band in six gear from 45 miles an hour all the way to 130 miles an hour and it was comfortable in six gear at speeds as low as 42 miles an hour shifting into 6th Gear and 45 for cruising in six gear where is the Ducati Monster if you weren't doing at least 58 miles an hour it hated you going into 6th Gear my suggestion to you is if you have a lot of friends who ride instead of buying yourself a bigger bike like an R6 or a big thousand CC Sport bike get yourself a 600cc sportbike well like an R6 or 650 all of the R6 is a lot less forgiving or CBR600RR or 600RR and get yourself a 650cc sportbike and just do bike swaps every now and then with your friend and ride your friends bike around maybe even do bike swaps for like a week at a time with your friend or be the person who your friends stores they're bigger less forgiving sportbike at your house when they go out of town and write it around when you are watching it for them and use that writing experience to help you make a more educated decision on whether or not you want to sell your bike that is forgiving but yet still quick and fun and agile and nimble for a bike more like there's.

I know people say that you'll never really use all the power or they're too scary all that kind of stuff but I feel like it's just a mental thing if you have the mental capacity to be smart and not be stupid on the bike you could drive anything but I guess just asking a bunch of strangers online their opinion

    I started on a 650, then sold it because everyone told me I needed to learn on a 250r...and bought a 250r. Had a 250r for about 6 months, then upgraded to a CBR 600. Then upgraded to a Daytona 675.
    I HATED riding on a litre bike, just wasn't for me at all (completely unnecessary for my purposes).
    I think it truly depends on the person. The CBR 600RR was a very light nimble and easy to ride bike. It wasn't snappy untill you got into the 10k rpm range however that takes restraint and intelligent shifting/power band knowledge.
    I totally can see someone who has ridden dirt bikes and understand shifting and clitch control to start on an R6 or CBR 600RR.
    In some cases I think it's easier to get into trouble on a 650r, because the power band kicks in around 4500-5000 rpms. A quick flip of the wrist and you're popping wheelies on the 650r as all the power is in the lower mid range.
    The 600s don't do that when you're rolling in 3k-5k rpms.
    A complete beginner that has no idea how to shift or control the clutch has no business on any bike other than a 250-300cc bike.

    • @TypicallyUniqueOfficial
      @TypicallyUniqueOfficial 5 лет назад

      @@hankeybillfred when was the last time you rode a 650r?

    I was trying to say my r6r I can't even get out of second gear anywhere because it'll do 125 so all side does is begging me to squeeze the throttle everywhere I go and I can't do that you'll get arrested or in a wreck but that bike does not like to be ridden any other way if you are not between 9000 and 18000 RPMs it doesn't ride like it should it will never satisfy you or let you feel what it can actually do now for a track bike it's a total different story I believe it is the best Track by because if you keep it between 9000 and 18000 RPMs the bike just loves it, it is like after ten thousand RPMs the bike becomes possessed and just goes crazy, and it's the most satisfying 600 I've ever rode in my life when you get off that thing you'd have nothing but a smile on your face when you're at the track I don't care if you wrote it a thousand times before that on that track you get that same feeling every time that bike is badass on the track but it completely sucked on the street you can't get out of second gear and if you do you're going to be doing double triple the speed limit and no time if you even have any room to do it without getting arrested.now the 650r is totally perfect for me now it's the perfect height it's very very light and it does really nice in the corners actually and it does have plenty of power you know you can ride wheelies on it you can still do 140 and weave through traffic on your way home from work you know it's just not an R6 that's all there is no other or six though it lays the power down a lot more linear

When I tellpeople my ZX6R is a 6, their mouths drop, they do a walk around and then they ask me how much I am selling it for. My first motorcycle is/was a 2002 Suzuki GSXR 1000 no issues, no accidents, no drops, never laid a bike down.

    To each their own but I've owned both and I love the ZX-6R, yes the 650 is much more practical and comfortable and plenty of power for non-hooligan riding. But if you want a practical bike get a Versys or some other boring dad bike ;), if you want a real sport bike get a ZX-6R. But sure if you want the sport bike look with comfort and a more usable power band 650 is not a bad option, it is a solid bike and good for beginners, just a little uninspiring if you ask me. zx-6r sound, power, and feel are just so much more epic and is like the quintessential Ninja. but yeah 7 hours on the 650 no big deal, 3 hours on the zx6r and I can barely walk, not too mention it's hard to ride the zx6r responsibly in normal conditions when it's just a beast rearing to go :)

    This is the only video I’m gonna thumb down on for bikes and beards because you’re not doing a true comparison.. it’s a way outdated 650.. you didn’t try a 636 in it. So it’s just not a fair comparison in my view.. but I love you guys.

    1:10 this is so true!!! They will be confused. People expect anger and fights when show love back against their hate, it confuses them.

    Lol my step dad was trying to talk me out of getting a first year 650r for my first bike and said I should get a zx6r instead (I’m 15) because last time he rode a 650 ninja it was really slow and he didn’t want me to start on a bike I’d get bored of, (he started on an 87 750 nighthawk s) I got the ninja 650 and he rode it and was happy, I guess he rode a ninja 500 instead of the 650, so makes sense why he thought it was slow lol

    I bought a 650 in July and it's slow but was a good bike to learn on...I'm upgrading to a supersport

      Yeah, thats what i was saying to other people in other comments.
      Start at a zx6r. It isn't 1980. So much info in the world. You will get bored of a small bike fast.
      As a commuter, this would be a good choice. 250s get like 50 or 60 per miles per gallon. But if you want to ride and have fun, start with a zx6r. Its literally called "entry level super sport" for a reason.
      The zx6r was my first bike. Even with all this power, i still crave more. I woulda hated starting at a 250, or even this 650.
      Never lost to any mustangs or any other car ever. So glad i made the choice to get a zx6r instead.

      NinjaOnANinja man I just got a 2011 650R upgraded from a 2013 ninja 300. And the 650R is a night and day difference. It is freaking amazing. I’m only 5’7” 150lbs man and I wonder what a ZX6R would be like. Your comments intrigue me even more. I just worry If I upgrade it will be a sketchier ride, and I do love getting 50mpg and the stock dirt bike handlebars my 2011 650R has

      @@robertp9370 i can shoot up to like 75 in first gear quick. I say "like" because i have needed a new front tire for a long time so i haven't pushed it lately. Also 6 foot 220 lbs. Still soars.
      Point is, its kinda nuts lol i lose 15-20 mpg but those 30 i get are amazing. That power when you are on the freeway and you gotta make a pass, drop it 2 gears and you are GONE! The only thing that beats me or comes close is aftermarket performance cars or other supersport bikes.
      But make sure to only push it so much because you kill the buzz and end up needing more. Its a drug man. Need my 1200 fix, having withdrawals xD
