  • Our morning starts off on a muggy June day in 2023. It’s a normal morning as we wake up, load up and put in at the Blockhole. The water level of the nearest big city is between 10 and 12ft and the temperature, to start off with, is in the 80’s as we dip into Crooked Creek for just a minute to have a look and then continue on towards the bend before 2 Mile Bridge.

      Castor River Diversion channel. It starts off as Castor River further upstream but the bottom half (what I’m paddling) was dug out years ago to make a giant ditch in hopes to help drain and manage water in the area.
