      😭😭 You've converted me! I used to understand awareness as the key attribute in offensive/defensive simulation, when it's actually better described as the key attribute in player overall which, as we know, doesn't always translate to simmability.

    Wow I was always curious about THE chair 😅 happy to see you got a sweet upgrade bud ! Also great episode and what an off season really suck tho you didn’t get Svechkov tho he looked like a stud pk guy might wanna keep and eye on him in futur consideration. Talking about future consideration I mean let the team sim for 30 games or so and lets see what happens. There one thing on my mind… you have I think 3 or 4 snipers on the top 6 maybe a playmaker could be of use for the powerplay if the scoring isn’t there. For coaches its really akward Kaputsa has the best chemistry for forward but he’s a defence coach… anyway I would still try him out since the only way to win games is by scoring goals right ! One last thing, personnaly I’m not a fan of running two offensive defenceman on the same line so I would go for Hughes/Hronek top 2 and Hanifin/Bouchard top 4. Thats it for me wish you the best for the upcoming season and to the new chair.

      Haha there's the chair!! What a ride 😂
      Yeah too bad on Svechkov! I'm going to wachlist him and see what may become possible down the road. And you're right about the snipers in our lineup. That's where a PLY like Markstrom who's an RFA might be interesting.. That being said, letting this team sim so that we can see what our identity may be sounds good to me! The only question is whether or not we pounce on Markstrom now.
      Kapusta as head coach also makes sense to me! Suter can continue as associate for now as we can say he finished last season as interim head coach. And I agree on the D pairings in theory! Just that Hanifin/Hronek have been a solid pair for the most part and I'll be curious to see if Hughes/Bouchard can both have a hand in the offense so we'll likely start like that BUT with the intention of making that swap if/when needed.
      Thanks for the love and see you for the beginning of this next season! RAVIOLI RAVIOLI GIVE ME THE FORMUOLI ❤️

    Hey Data, great episode. Every great GM needs to have HIS chair 😂😉.
    As New York Rangers fan, I love the name Lundqvist and so happy, that you traded for him. By overall, he looks like best player from draft. Let's see if that would be true. He is our best prospect we had so I would keep him on top 6
    For our head coach, I would keep Suter as associate. Kapusta has great chemistry, only first pair has issues, but since they're best, we can overlook that.
    As NHL 24 GM myself, I know that offer sheets can be tricky. But most of the times, players like Markstrom spent that year unsigned, which is shame. So I would lean on signing him. Which would probably move Lundqvist on 3rd line, but with replacement of player like Markstrom, I am okay with that. Plus he is another Swede ( At least it looks, by name ).
    Ritchie I think is done in Vancouver. Ship him out and find him new home.
    Great retool, I think that this team can make it into playoffs. But we shall see in another episode

      Haha you are exactly correct! Thanks for the love and glad you like the chair ;)
      Love that Lundqvist name absolutely! I'll be very curious to see how the rest of the top 4/5 turn out from this draft class.
      Fair point on the coaching. And also true on the Markstrom offer sheet. It's risky to say we'd lose a 1st and a 3rd if we sign him to a one-year deal when we're not sure what kind of a team we'll be just yet, but I absolutely see his longterm value. The only issue would be who leaves the top 6 because I'd want to have Lundqvist there, so maybe it ends up being Norris as 3C/PP2..? Kind of a "sign and deal with it" sort of problem. And yes, another Swede!! 🇸🇪
      Thanks for your thoughts and looking forward to seeing you for the beginning of next season! :)

      @@Data782 This team looks competitive and with Markstrom in roster, they should be more. And I highly doubt that the late 1st or 3rd ever became close to Markstrom. I say let's pull the trigger and figure on the way.

  • @CheatingHeel
    @CheatingHeel 7 месяцев назад +2

    OMG!
    I was wishing the timer would run out before you could swap the 4th overall to the 3rd because it looked like a lot to give up for someone who could be there at 4th but, looking at what we got, I'm glad you didn't leave it to chance. He looks like a future rockstar!
    Great draft all around, the amount of value we got is insane and a lot of them are gems so, kudos on a great job!
    At this point, I'm ready to let go a lot of our prospects; 23/24yo stucked at low 80s isn't going to cut it. Ritchie is most likely gone. I wouldn't mind trading O'Brien so we can put Pudkolzin or Neighbor on the 3rd line instead and there's a fair amount of clean up to do in the AHL as far as prospect goes.
    Someone like Lindback, Perrault or Maloney in Carolina could be a good option. Deslauriers and Yashin in Toronto are also interesting. Shame that there's not an interesting young dman on the block.
    If we get someone like Seider, it would mean trading Hronek out, which I'm not against since we have better offensive dmen and it would make us younger but Detroit as sellers don't need Hronek so we'd have to do a 3-way trade and get assets for Hronek to flip them (or we trade Seider for our prospects and flip Hronek to Carolina for theirs maybe?)
    Not sure I would touch Verhaeghe as a 34yo on his last year; he can only go down. If Norris doesn't cut it, we need a mid 20yo center to take his place. I'd say go for Markstrom in Montreal to be Pettersson's replacement down the road in a Norris trade but we'd have to eat money back to make it work as they are right up against the cap. They already have Celebrini, Hagens, both over 90 and Suzuki at 88 playing center; they don't need Markstrom (but they don't need Norris either...). Maybe we get one of Hagens or Markstrom to be our 2C from them and trade Norris elsewhere (if he doesn't work out once season starts). The abondance of forwards they have means that Slafkovsky is stucked on the 3rd line as a 25yo and can't develop so he's still a 82. Taking a center from them wouldn't hurt them but their defense is so-so. Maybe they are the team we ship Hronek to if we go after Seider. Oh, the possibilities!
    On a side note, Edmonton trading for Pulock to replace Bouchard and putting him on the block when they have 10m$ of cap space left is so wrong... this game is so broken. 😂
    In a perfect world, I think I'd go trade route with Mtl and get Hagens or Markstrom for Hronek ++ and I'd replace Hronek with Seider by trading them some of our prospects. I'd then trade Norris to Carolina or Toronto for prospects. We'd have a killer and younger top 4 on defense and our top 6 could be quite solid once Lundqvist grows + we could swap Pettersson to 2C in a couple of years once he's aging a bit. That would most likely be the speediest way to end our retool and get back to chasing cups before Pettersson and Hughes are getting too old.
    Anyhow, that was quite an offseason, very pleased with what we got in the pipeline!
    Go 'Nucks!

    • @Data782
      @Data782 7 месяцев назад

      Haha yes he does! I was also hesitant to give up that value but I knew that we had a high chance of getting Bouchard so it helped me to think of Hamilton as more of a toss in for the value. Thanks for the draft love, I'm happy with the yield!
      I thought the same about no really interesting d-men prospects on the block :( But i do think we could use better centre depth so a trade with Carolina or Toronto should still be fine. Seider is also interesting but to create a three-team deal and get Hronek to waive whatever sort of NMC he has could be a little complicated. I'd prefer to revisit that closer to the deadline. I see the Hronek to MTL possibility but then there are the cap issues to deal with for the Habs. That being said..
      Markstrom. Wow! I had totally disregarded him as I typically do for RFAs or else we'd cheese one every season, but with the centre/forward depth in Montreal it could really make sense!! We're going to take a VERY long look at that.
      Don't get me started on AI GMs and how what Edmonton did makes me furious 😭🤣
      I like those perfect world thoughts! I just wouldn't want to do them all at once just before the season starts. Looking into Markstrom will be priority #1 but, from there, I think I want to see a bit of simulation before Norris/Hronek also move out. Markstrom + Lundqvist may be all we need right now. Good to keep all of this in mind! Thanks for the love and thoughts as always and we'll see you for the start of this next exciting season! :)

    Hi Data, great episode, fair amount to take in. Just a few key things.
    Ritchie and those other ahl prospects look done to me. Perhaps in a month or two you can send them in 1-1 swaps for thirds or fourths, sort of like resetting your picks from four years ago.
    Secondly, Lundqvist is a fantastic pick up, he can be first line next year, hopefully with Elias and another strong winger as we start to push again.
    Finally, as much as I like Suter, he’s the second best choice to be coach, and even if we don’t expect to win anything, Kapusta is our guy, and we need more growth out of forwards than defenceman. I’d rather we score more and concede more this year, than pad Jones’ stats whilst our offence stagnates.
    Up the nucks

      Hey Kieran! Thanks for the love! It was definitely a lengthy one with so much going on.
      Sounds fair enough on Ritchie & Co. if we can't find any good trade partners for other prospects. Picks will do fine.
      Yes! Very happy to have Lundqvist as our future LW1.
      Agreed on the coaching. Suter is a great story and he'll stay on, but I think the guy who makes the most sense right now is Kapusta.
      Thanks for your thoughts and see you for the start of the next season! :)

    Wowww big bold moves this offseason to set us up for the future! Sucks to see Hamilton go but lundqvist looks like he will be a superstar and although expensive I believe that trade will age well. Try him out on the first line and make sure he’s on the powerplay as a finisher to maximize growth for a future Data HOFer!
    There’s definitely a need to move out some stagnating youngsters while they still have value…I would keep O’Brien albeit on a short leash because he was a 20 goal scorer after all, but Johnston and Ritchie should be moved for sure. Maybe to Carolina or another buyer for prospects, or maybe some picks in a high quality draft class?
    Although it may seem tempting to spend a ton of assets on veteran players to fill holes in the lineup, we should still be focusing on growing our younger players and giving them lots of opportunity so we can come out of this mini-retool ready to start a true dynasty. I will admit although it is harder to build a consistent contender in NHL 24 then it was in past games, it makes each year a lot more unpredictable and in turn more interesting and fun to manage. Great video data once again and thanks for taking the time to listen to your community!

    • @Data782
      @Data782 7 месяцев назад

      Bold indeed! Definitely felt a little uneasy to make such big moves but I think the longterm value will be worth it. The next issue is utilization because I'd love to have him as LW1/PP1 right away haha but I also don't want to induce any stagnation. Maybe my worries are unfounded so we'll see how he simulates.
      Some sort of Ritchie/Johnston swap to Carolina might be interesting! Worst case, picks for this next draft also works because we don't need back any roster players at the moment.
      Well said on the timeline of things. We're almost there, but it isn't time to rush things! We can see how things look by the deadline but I think our opening night squad is pretty much set. And I agree that the unpredictability certainly brings its advantages for realism! We're being stretched in different ways in this series which is fun in another way. Onward and upward! Thanks for the love and for being a part of that great community :) See you at the start of the season!

    I think letting Dougie go was the move, especially given his age and how Lundqvist turned out to be.
    I would make sure to find Lundqvist his center (PLY) of the future so they can take over Pettey and L1 when the time comes. Markstrom in MTL seems to be our guy and the one I’d go after.
    I say we don’t mind using the next year to clean up our prospect pool and acquire draft picks or quality prospects. Our defense looks mighty solid, I don’t think we need to go after Seider and spend prospects or draft picks on a guy who’s plus/minus looked awful. I feel very comfortable with our defense and it will probably sim realtively well.
    I get it might seem conter intuitive because Pettey and Hughes are aging but wouldn’t we want to have a dynasty ready for their farewell.

    • @Data782
      @Data782 7 месяцев назад

      Hey Eskaa! Glad that you liked the moves. Markstrom being our future 1C is a VERY tempting possibility that I think we have to genuinely explore. I also agree on Seider who I think would simulate fine on a better team, but would knock a top 4 guy out of a spot and cost a good deal of trade value (that could even go towards Markstrom).
      Thanks for leaving those great thoughts! See you for the start of the season ;)

    Keep Kapusta as the NHL head coach. Fire Petruzalek and replace him with a better AHL head coach with better teaching because your AHL players aren't growing. Make Müller your AHL starter and Janssen the backup.
    You should sign Lindholm and/or Markström. (it is realistic to sign them imo because of the Kotkaniemi and Tkachuk deals that landed them on their current respective teams irl.) I have a few trade targets in mind, as well; Maloney on CAR; Perezhogin on CHI; Roy on STL; and Deslauriers on TOR. Trade Ritchie, Johnston, Brzustewicz, and Kudryavtsev, and, if you want Lindholm, trade Hanifin because he is worse than Hronek. (I would prefer to trade for a prospect and sign Markström because, out of all of the options listed, they fill the greatest needs, which are young players for the future and 1st line forward, respectively.)
    I think the lines could look like this going into the season:
    1st F: Pettersson-Markström-Lekkerimäki/Tippett
    2nd F: Aatu Räty-Norris-other one of Lekkerimäki/Tippett
    3rd F: O'Brien-Goldmann-Lundqvist
    4th F: Neighbours-Klimovich-Niskala
    Depth F: Aku Räty
    1st D: Hughes-Hronek
    2nd D: Lindholm-Bouchard
    3rd D: Bouillon-Peeke
    Depth D: McIsaac
    G: Jones-Leonov
    Depth G: Free Agent/trade a 6th or 7th for one
    (The reason why I split up Hughes and Bouchard is because they are both OFDs, so if they were together, their pairing would probably be a black hole defensively. IIRC, the Hughes-Hronek pairing years ago was great both offensively and defensively, so we should try to replicate that again. BTW, what is Tippett's player type?)

    • @Data782
      @Data782 6 месяцев назад

      Thanks Gen Z! Agreed on Kapusta. For the AHL, growth is just such a disaster haha but we can check for the next episode (already recorded #24) if there's anyone out there with better teaching. Not a guarantee that that will do anything, but we can look. And for the goalies, we need Muller to grow to 75+ to take over as starter or else Janssen will get the majority. I wish you could decide who the "starter" is!
      Roger that on the potential RFA targets! I hear the logic for sure. Lines look good too but Lundqvist likely sees the top 6. We'll see how the top 4 D sim and go from there, too, but you're right about the classic Hughes/Hronek pairing (albeit a different coach). And Tippett is a SNP! Thanks for leaving your thoughts and see you for the start of year #7!

    I'd say to cut your losses and trade ritchie and o'brien because prospects that dont grow usually stop at 23/24, while they still have value i'd dump them to calgary for lindholm since they've grown very minimally
    As for johnston i would say one more year if theres no more growth, Also why not try going for markstrom for 1 year to see what happens
    On a side note ive started a new "gm" mode on 23 and as a challenge manually writing everything down ( roster, coaches, scouts + scouting, signings, trades and everything else) which is exhausting but might be worthwhile later if one of my players becomes a top 100 player of all time
