    Just saw it last night. Movie definitely requires a rewatch or two, it satirizes both sides of the political divide and has that dash of ari aster's craziness. I don't think this is Ari's best film, but I need to rewatch it at least one more time before I come to that conclusion. I sorta wish the movie delved deeper into certain plot lines and character backgrounds. Overall, I did enjoy the movie.

      Me too. I know I'm in the minority, but Beau is Afraid is a masterpiece, and so different from Hereditary and Midsommar (also masterpieces). I trust this guy.

    • @hugh-jasole
      @hugh-jasole 7 months ago +11

      @educationreformistabsolutely agree. Beau is Afraid is one of the best films of the decade so far. And his first 2 horror films are modern classics. Until he gives me a reason not to trust him snd puts out a mediocre film i think this will be another masterpiece

    • @SparkyClark19
      @SparkyClark19 7 months ago +3

      @educationreformistMidsommar is just a far lesser remake of a real masterpiece in 1973's The Wicker Man. But Hereditary is great. He hasn't been able to reach those heights since, unfortunately.

    • @jeremyyarbrough3209
      @jeremyyarbrough3209 7 months ago +4

      @SparkyClark19 While Midsommar and The Wicker Man have similarities, I don't think they're dealing entirely with the same subject. I read The Wicker Man as being about the naivete of modern Christians when dealing with the occult, whereas Midsommar is more about how vulnerable, wounded people are easily integrated into cults. I felt like the "fiery sacrifice" ending was Aster's way of tipping his hat to Wicker Man, though. I also think Midsommar is a fascinating Rorschach test of a film; I distrust people who see it as having a happy ending.

      Curioso, que siempre pongan en las películas a los conservadores como los individuos más agresivos, peligrosos y retorcidos, cuando en la vida real son los que solo ladran y casi nunca muerden. No morderan a menos que sean mordidos antes.
      Cuando se les da la oportunidad de desatar el caos solo terminan haciendo el ridículo públicamente. Ellos quedan superados por sus propias circunstancias, tienen la oportunidad y no saben después que hacer con ella.
      Mientras que los verdaderos violentos sin ningún control son las turbas inclusivas del amor y la paz. Su ira es desbocada sin principios ni honor. No tienen ningún problema en desaparecer del mapa a alguien por opinar distinto.
      Esos sí dan mucho miedo.

    People calling this film the first Modern Western have clearly not seen No Country for Old Men. When a film is good, there's no need for ridiculous hype labels.

      and thought not a film, Justified the series. That's the first time I've seen something that truly is a "modern western," in that it has the things that make the old greats great but modernized (rather than shoehorned) into today, and enough of the style too (again, without pandering or artificially trying).
