I made a similar case above in two places. The judge was wrong here. It wasnt even a few seconds. Just a second really. I see a lot of people thinking they would do better in the comments. Exactly. If you're prone to making *dangerous* decisions when nervous, you shouldn't put yourself in that situation from the beginning. Panicking like that can, and has, cost lives.
what the first lady says makes perfect sense. You approach, see a yellow light, notice a vehicle in your exit lane, your next course of action is to check mirrors and blindspot, indicate and change lanes ... during which time you are _not_ focusing on the light. She is guilty, and should pay the fine, but the judge was wrong to say that the police car being there went against her.
The Police parking in that Lane was ok. There is no law stating the police can't park in the exit lane. As for the check Blindspot and forgot about the light, that makes no sense. She could have killed someone just saying. If you are unsure slowdown and check your surroundings. In this case the light was red a long time ago. Not a good excuse sorry

I was thinking the EXACT same thing. I listened to her and understood that's what she was trying to say. The reason he didn't catch that is because he doesn't let people finish what they are trying to say - he cuts them off and starts telling them how wrong they are without LISTENING to them. I've noticed this on a lot of his cases. (And I am a former police officer for 15 years.)
@@jameshughes455 thank you sir for the input I'm glad someone else caught that. And we need more officers like you who take the time to see things from our eyes, sometimes we make mistakes trying to do the right thing.
I am like 90% sure her thought process was that it would be troublesome to change lanes when the light turned green for her to go, and she cried because she was too nervous to explain it correctly, and she felt like the truth about her decision wouldn't ever get out. She's just a really emotional lady, and anyone could tell that the moment she walked into the courtroom. Let's think a little lol
The problem is, this is troublesome versus dangerous. There's cross traffic, pedestrians, and the lane to her right where she could have run into someone doing this. It may be troublesome to get an opportunity to change lanes after the light turns green, but it won't be dangerous if she's remotely aware of her surroundings
I believe her that seeing the cop car distracted her, lapsed her thought of seeing the yellow. Maybe a lack of multi-tasking. She *did* do it, but it was definitely not intentional.
Akifa Frost I’m not an expert on law, however, I do know that the United States Bill of Rights (Sixth Amendment) guarantees a public trial for those accused. The people in the back could be the audience, not necessarily the defendants. Again, I’m not an expert at law, so this is just an educated guess based on what I’ve read in the Constitution.
Not necessarily, they could be family and friends of others who are being asked to show for court, or this is a tv show, they would be allowed to just sit in if they wanted
I understand the first lady, she saw the police and her focus was on them because she was trying to make sure she didn't do anything wrong and the lights were the last thing she thought of because the police were her main focus to make sure she done everything she could to accommodate them. The cop is also far too close to a corner, that's dangerous.
I agree with you but my issue with her is there’s a mom pushing a Bantu with a stroller across the street. She swerved infornt of them. That in itself should be a deprecate punishment.
The judge definitely wasn't wrong here. While it's understandable for people to get nervous, she very explicitly did not obey the traffic signals that she definitely could have obeyed and should have obeyed. That's several seconds where the light was already red. She also had time to process signaling, which means she should have processed the rest of the situation. But turning that soon would make me a bit concerned as to whether she even checked her blind spot before changing lanes. In addition to pedestrians, there's also cross traffic visible. That's 3 separate directions she could have caused a crash while distracted. While the placement of the police cycle may seem like an issue, it would actually be worse if he were further down as he wouldn't be as visible around the curve in the road. That's also where the vehicle the officer stopped pulled over The judge understands that this could have ended very differently. Nervous drivers can be very dangerous drivers and cost peoples' lives by being accidentally unpredictable. Plus, the general rule is that is you see any potential obstruction ahead, you slow down or yield, so nervousness should have turned to being more cautious.
The problem is, panicking and acting unpredictably can cost lives (notice pedestrians and vehicles in the other street of the intersection). She also was aware of when the light turned yellow, so, even being distracted, she should have already been stopping.
The first woman had a legitimate point, even though she jacked up. She was worried about getting around him, and didn't notice the light changing. Doesn't make her not guilty, but she wasn't being dishonest.
I think the judge gets that. But he's trying to make a point that you can't be that easily distracted while driving. You need to be able to react *well* to unanticipated situations because next time, it might not be a sudden police car in your lane, it might be a child running into the road. The woman's argument that she got nervous and completely lost track of the process of stopping for the light in favor of moving over for the police car is an indication that she really shouldn't be behind the wheel because she just can't multitask and deal with unexpected situations well enough.
I worked the late shift and a highway patrol officer came in a couple of times a week, and we would chat while I was checking out his groceries. I told him that when I saw a patrol car it was natural to tap the brakes even if I wasn't even going the speed limit, he laughed an told me he did the same even though he had been on the force for 12 years. Guess people have different reactions.
Not to say the first woman didn't deserve the ticket, but I can understand her explanation. Anxiety can cloud your thinking and make it very difficult to make quick decisions in real-time. I believe what she said 100% and the reason she starts crying at the end is because she feels her character is being judged without her being understood.
No bro, she’s crying because judge didn’t try to understand him. Not everyone is a nervous driver. Probably the lady never even had a ticket to her name. So it was a character issue for her “no one’s even understanding my point, and now I have something on my record and there’s nothing i can do about it” that’s what the tears are about. On top of that she’s a shy person obviously who couldn’t make her case properly. I myself am not a nervous person at all, but my wife is. So i can totally get why she’d drive that way in the video and start crying in court.
The older gentleman reminded me of my late father, my father passed away at 85 came to Canada in the early 70's not a single ticket for speeding, no car accident nothing!. I miss my dad so much, this man reminded me of my dad a perfect father n gentleman. Now how many people at that age with a perfect score?. 👏👏🙏I'm 47 yr old woman I had 2 car accidents, 1 speeding ticket, some older people are better on the roads than younger ones, jmo.
Honestly I believed the first person because it's something that my mom would do (even I would do possibly). Coming from the an extremely rural town in the blue ridge mountains, seeing emergency vehicles is a very rare and kind of bizarre experience.
I had the same experience like her. A police car was behind of me and I got anxious and didn’t see any light and passed. Police stopped me and I was even more anxious. This happened in Georgia, Batumi.
The lady switched her blinker on to change lanes. She must have check her side mirror at the same time that the light changed. Officer should have moved further away from a busy intersection.
I actually agree with the first lady, but she should have explained more clearly that the police car ahead is blocking her lane and she got distracted trying to figure out where to go next, and unfortunately that's when the light turned and she couldn't think fast enough to what to do next. I can reasonably see many people falling into the same problem if they are in the same situation. It would be unreasonable to think that people would purposely run thru a red light in front of the police. Of course, isn't it super fun to sit in the comfort of our home and judge what others should have done and what is reasonable or not?
I kinda understand whenever I see police I leave my eyes from the road to determine what’s going on and then proceed, obviously I would know what’s going on around me.
It's actually really sad that his first instinct was to call him doctor. It shows he's been spending a lot of time in the care of doctors, so it's likely his health is rather poor.
Please don't cry. I totally understand u. I have that too when I see the police car or ambulances lighting their light on. Not anyone could understand the nervous and act in nervous even the judges or policeman. So I force myself to be more steady while we see the light of emergency get on. Take ur safety first before others.
What you all DO NOT SEEM to understand is that when you are put in a position where you have almost no time to think and get nervous, your action following will probably not be the best. I know we've all broken the law by running red lights sometimes so you all need to give her a break. she was nervous at the time of the incident and she is nervous now.
I have watched dozens of these episodes and I must say the lady just ran out of luck 'cause the judge obviously (like every human being every once in a while) had a bad day. I find it sad though, I sympathize with her more than with people who haven't paid like 8 tickets and bring their kid in and case gets dismissed.
'I appreciate that, doc...uhm...your Honor.' Oh God, this old gentleman is such a sweet man, I wish him good health and no business with doctors for the rest of his life
You missed the point. She saw a yellow light, thought she had enough time to pass it, but before she could notice it turn red, the police car parked right past the intersection on her lane caught her attention. So, she kept on driving, assuming that the light was yellow, and checked her mirrors and turned on her signal accordingly to switch lanes. She was saying that no sane person would intentionally run a red light when there's a police car RIGHT THERE. She got justice because of her poor way of explaining the situation, instead of getting pardoned for her mistake.
I understood what that 1st lady was saying. she was driving and saw the police officer in her lane, attempted to change lanes and never looked at the traffic light again. She panicked trying to change lanes and never saw the light turning red, in her mind she was trying to get out of the way.
If you're in the borders of an intersection when the light turns red, it's questionable whether or not you could have stopped after it turned yellow-she knew when it turned yellow and she had plenty of space and time to stop. The policeman was parked behind a car he'd stopped..on the "other side" of the intersection! If she would've stopped as she was supposed to, she would have been completely "out of the way" and the policeman may have been gone by the time the light turned green again. By choosing to run the yellow light while changing lanes and, ultimately, the red light, she took an irresponsible risk of possibly causing an accident and possibly hurting and/or killing someone
I honestly disagree with the first decision. I understand there has to be law but it’s a common mistake every driver does when seeing a cop. She came in court thinking the judge would understand her but cried because it was an honest mistake.
The first woman: Whats the point of having a yellow light? It means, u have to slow down and stop. Even if u r nervous. Yellow means, slow down. Bcoz everyone knows that d red light comes on next. N d police man is infront on d other side. Jaz stop
if you're so nervous that you make bad driving decisions when confronted with emergency vehicles, then maybe you should take the bus. like the judge said, she did the worst thing you could do in that situation. she could have caused another accident. again, please for others sake, take the bus.

At many places you can go through on red if you’re making a right turn, she was saying she hadn’t realised there was a sign saying she couldn’t turn on red. It’s a plausible reason however it should not have taken her 3 times to realise there was a sign there.
@@soul7530 ~ The state I live in allows a right turn on red only under the following conditions: 1) after you fully stop and it's safe to turn, 2) when a right turn arrow is lit, 3) if city ordinances allow it. Rolling stops are not legal.

There should be no distraction at any junctions. Can you imagine a large bill board with flashing neon lights showing interesting advertising? Do you think the safety statistics for that junction will remain the same?
It is unfortunate for her that there was a distraction to take her attention away for a few vital seconds.
I made a similar case above in two places. The judge was wrong here.
It wasnt even a few seconds. Just a second really. I see a lot of people thinking they would do better in the comments. Research shows the majority doesnt.
The blockade was at the worst possible point and police should immediately close down appropriate lanes. Maybe they didnt get to that yet.
Either way a bad decision from the judge.
@@StofStuiver I agree the police officer was at a bad spot, but they had pulled someone over. You don't choose where they pull over at, and you don't take the time to close down a lane for that. Besides, it's not like he would've had cones and lane blockers on a motorcycle...
I agree. She probably had to look over her shoulder to ensure it was safe to continue through the intersection while changing lanes-something that isn't supposed to happen in normal circumstances.
Why did she say she wish the video had audio?
Quite simply, if someone is easily distracted then don't drive. Driving a 1 ton vehicle is a serious responsibility
He can be strict when it calls for it.
@Dark Horse i don't think she was lying. My mum too tends to make crazy decisions when panicking... it is that way for some people
@@michellem4084 then don't be on the road if you can't even stop at the red light and got panic easily, so in this case just pay your fines since ure on the road
Police shouldn't be parked that close to an intersection.
@@carlmathews5778 there's a curve before the intersection and the cop had his lights on making her make a last decision lane change to maybe get out of the way of an oncoming cop car and yeah theres laws for parking that close to an intersection but cops think they are above the law as of this lady I wouldn't have paid.
I don't get why the people in the back is laughing when they're there for a traffic issue as well
Akifa Frost cuz they know there on TV and feel at ease
Akifa Frost I’m not an expert on law, however, I do know that the United States Bill of Rights (Sixth Amendment) guarantees a public trial for those accused. The people in the back could be the audience, not necessarily the defendants. Again, I’m not an expert at law, so this is just an educated guess based on what I’ve read in the Constitution.
Not necessarily, they could be family and friends of others who are being asked to show for court, or this is a tv show, they would be allowed to just sit in if they wanted
This is a TV show a lot of them are part of the audience
I understand the first lady, she saw the police and her focus was on them because she was trying to make sure she didn't do anything wrong and the lights were the last thing she thought of because the police were her main focus to make sure she done everything she could to accommodate them. The cop is also far too close to a corner, that's dangerous.
I agree with you but my issue with her is there’s a mom pushing a Bantu with a stroller across the street. She swerved infornt of them. That in itself should be a deprecate punishment.
@@crater3539 i didn't see the first one with a woman and a stroller
Yea, judge was wrong there.
@@StofStuiver the judge did his job
That's also where the vehicle the officer stopped pulled over
The judge understands that this could have ended very differently. Nervous drivers can be very dangerous drivers and cost peoples' lives by being accidentally unpredictable. Plus, the general rule is that is you see any potential obstruction ahead, you slow down or yield, so nervousness should have turned to being more cautious.
Wow i think that the judge and the inspector should be protected at all costs!
The police unit distracted her from the lights. Very easy to determine that. It happens to a lot...people panic when they see lights.

@Robertz1986 - But she's still responsible to pay the consequences.
@@moniquemosley2122 “Doesn’t make her not guilty”
She is just saying she was distracted from normal processing of what she does when driving.
Then she shouldn't be driving.
She basically said I was paying attention to the cop instead of what I was doing.
Not to say the first woman didn't deserve the ticket, but I can understand her explanation. Anxiety can cloud your thinking and make it very difficult to make quick decisions in real-time. I believe what she said 100% and the reason she starts crying at the end is because she feels her character is being judged without her being understood.
She cries to pity the court like all the others bro
Its amazing how the human mind tries to justify itself against any wrong or responsibility !!
Judge was not having it that day 😂
Fantastic conversation. Nice lady and fantastic gentlemen.

5:47 no bloody wonder he's there for traffic violations, he probably doesn't know which of the six lanes to be in.
Wtf
Lmaoo
The lady switched her blinker on to change lanes. She must have check her side mirror at the same time that the light changed. Officer should have moved further away from a busy intersection.
Right. And she also braked twice, hard.

What you all DO NOT SEEM to understand is that when you are put in a position where you have almost no time to think and get nervous, your action following will probably not be the best. I have watched dozens of these episodes and I must say the lady just ran out of luck 'cause the judge obviously (like every human being every once in a while) had a bad day.

Yeah he isn't fair always... and that's ridiculous just for being pregnant or having a kid ur tickets get dismissed or fine reduced.
She admitted she saw the police cruiser; she really had no viable excuse for running the red light, there was plenty of time and room for her to stop.

red light offence is only 85 dollar? that cheap, where im from its 3-400 and 1 month of driving suspension
This is already among my favorite videos of him because while he’s extremely lenient sometimes (when necessary) he also takes no nonsense
The first lady tried so hard to get let off even cried a little lol
First Lady was telling truth & cop was a properly timed distraction. Ruling was ok, delivery was bad.
The first woman: Whats the point of having a yellow light?
It means, u have to slow down and stop. Even if u r nervous. Yellow means, slow down. Bcoz everyone knows that d red light comes on next. N d police man is infront on d other side. Jaz stop
