This is one of my wife and my favorites when we want something easy to find at our local grocery store. Great tasting stout and love those vanilla notes on the end. I'd give it a solid B+ IMO. Cheers!
~~~ Love the roasty toasty Narwhal and the BA version is even better. Here in Florida the 4pks are $20. I think these age beautifully. Nice review. CHEERS !!!
Like the Narwhal. Never had the barrel aged. Going to have to try this one. I always love Dragons Milk and a slice of pumpkin pie around this time of year. Cheers!
This is one of the rare beers that holds up very well with age. A couple of years ago, I did a vertical tasting of one of those old 750ml corked and caged bottles and a fresh 16oz can. There was a 4-5 year age difference, and I could barely tell them apart. This does come in a 4-pack cardboard box, and I usually grab one if I currently don’t have any in my beer fridge. It’s a reliable BA Stout that I can enjoy if I don’t feel like searching through my “cellared” beers 🍻
It’s just such a great value for a damn tasty BA stout, ya know? I’m sick of hype beers and way over paying for stuff (looking at you BC variants) and would just rather stick with stuff like this 🍻
Last year I bought a 4 pack of 16 oz cans here in Michigan from Total Wine. I also picked up a 6 pack of 12 oz bottles of the non-barrel aged version. The 6 pack was $12.99 and I can't remember what I paid for the 4 pack, maybe $16.99?
Had this last April or so. I do agree it's a bit hoppy. However, once in a while, it's a nice departure. Beelzebub from Alchemist comes to mind. On to the next...
This beer fucks. It's super approachable. Especially if I want something like this, but don't want to chew on it. I can just pour, sip, and enjoy. Cheers
My opinion differs a bit from you with this beer, as my preference has always been the base over the barrel-aged offering, which is usually not the norm for me. I just think the base is a beautiful beer, and when you factor in the price point, it's awesome. I do enjoy the barrel-aged version, but it takes away from the base a bit too much for my liking. Like you said, though, $5.99/can for an almost 12% ABV BA Imperial Stout is a damn good value. Nice review, Joe. Cheers!
Narwhal is good, I just think I prefer that vanilla sweetness I love so much that the barrel aging does to it ya know? I need to grab some regular Narwhal and revisit it 🍻🍻
The value is off the charts! Glad you’re a fan of this one 🍻
We used to get bottles of this in Louisiana, but that was years ago. I've never seen the canned version, here.
It’s such a great value at $5-$6
@@jsenigaglia That is crazy they can sell it for that price.
Great value on these! I should grab some Narwhal again and do a side by side 🍻
I’ve got a can of Beelzebub from last year in the fridge! You just reminded me. I wonder if it’s mellowed 🍻
