  • Facilitated discussion, reading, and book-signing with Curtis Chin about his memoir, “Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant.” This event took place at the MSU Main Library on February 1, 2024 in conjunction with the "Food Fight!" exhibition at the MSU Museum on view January 9 - June 29, 2024.
    Curtis Chin’s memoir, “Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant,” details his life growing up American-born Chinese and gay in Detroit in the 1980s. His family’s Chinese restaurant, Chung’s Cantonese Cuisine, plays a central role in his childhood and adolescence. Chin founded the Asian American Writers’ Workshop, and his writing for print, television, and documentaries has won awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, among other places.
    His memoir, released on October 17, 2023, has already gained recognition, being named one of the Top 10 memoirs of the fall by Publisher's Weekly and included in the 2024 Michigan Notable Books.
