Yup, especially if you live above 50° latitude and only have eight daylight hours in which to go back for another wettie that withstands 8°C when the one I brung zipper seized up and sprung a hole. Then a 45 minute swim out is a nice warm up. Thankfully I’m not at Pipe.
I love hearing Koa's camerman with the running commentary in the background. Koa can you do a vid where you talk about your paddle strategy in general when its a tough paddle out? curious what you you think is most important, like timing vs technique vs fitness/endurance etc when conditions get crazy.
If I could improve anything on my paddle out it would be timing and stamina. Ik, who tf cares but it’s what I’ve noticed helps a lot at my local break. Seems to be the difference between the seasoned guys and the new ones
He actually may have stumbled onto something here. Real voice, running commentary/conversation from that spot at that time, over-laying vibing music is a level of cool I didn't even know I was missing. The sound levels in the beginning paddle out are actually perfect; voices aren't too loud or distracting but can still listen to them if you want to.
I def like the paddle out videos. You really can't see how far your drift is to finally make it out but you explainded it perfectly at the end of the video. I use to go to the North Shore after the Pipe Masters, way less crowded back then from my experience. I dont know how it is now but I can only imagine what the parking situation looks like. People dont relize how impressive it is to even make the paddle out to get in the lineup. You guys make it look so easy but thats years of training, understanding the water conditions at Pipe. It's to sureal to have that break as your back yard spot. For me Pipe would be one of the Seven Wonders of the world.
Definitely more paddle out videos! As fun as seeing you surf is, it’s just as exhilarating to see the paddle out to get where you have to be to surf. Just my two cents.
I also love to see when surfers of koa’s level wipe out and we get to see the footage of navigating back out when they get stuck in the middle of a big set. Getting a realistic perspective of the whole process instead of cutting straight to the highlights of the best waves
Is it just me or do the voices in the background of the music create this super chill ass vibe goin on. Reminds of a really chill concert with quiet chatter going on around the show.
This video is my favorite!!Thank you Koa from the guy with the onewheel you took a pic with maybe 5 seconds before this video starts! One of the most memorable days of my life. I’ve been watching since you started and appreciate you taking the time to make my day even better.
When Koa was about to paddle out the second time, and says "I hope I can get lucky." Meaning catching a lull between sets for an easy paddle out...I fellllt that brother, Especially after the camera pans out to the 15+ft Hawaiians smashing to shore haha 🤙💪
Jack... Your feel for matching audio tracks to clips was on all time display during the Koa Paddle out. Seriously man, sonically its dope, rhythmically its connected and not clashing, and I just appreciate your feel and sensitivity for picking your cinematic spots. Appreciate y'all!
I kinda like the smaller audience on koas channel, makes it feel like a special channel for some reason.. love it and the comunity ! However i feel like he deserves so much more followers its insane tbh.. Aloha much love peps
Just found this channel. I’m a wannabe surfer from Missouri. Have given it a go a few times in FL and Maui. Visited spots on the north shore but not beginner friendly. Love these videos. Let’s the dreamers sorta see what it’s all about.
what a great edit (and video content as well). Just wanted to give special shoutout to whoever did the editing/audio mixing. Really enjoy that you left some of the background noise and conversations in with the music
Thanks, Koa this was great! I am using what you shared as research for a surfing scene in my sci-fi book series "The Paladin Code". Love it keep surfing and keep sharing!
The first paddle out...maybe 2 duck dives! The 2nd session was 12/13 duck dives! Impressive you are! Please post more videos about paddling out and other beach breaks you love to surf! My whole family loves the way u surf and inspire others around you!
Love your vids Koa, as much as the surfing is cool to watch, you also throw in nuggets of info that are super interesting and I'm learning so much just from watching your vids. Thanks so much for the epic content!
Timing the paddle out is equal parts skill and luck. Sometimes an “endless set” will ruin your plans. Looks like you had both, and caught plenty waves! Go Koa!
Love the paddle out videos, would love to see videos from you explaining how you duck under those big waves coming down on you so easily. Also love to hear how you progressed to catching bigger waves
The difficult paddle out blogs (and even the easier ones) are really helpful for us who don't always (ever) get to surf big/bigger waves. Sometimes it helps me that in my minds eye I can picture that what I am going through (thinking about taking 5-6 waves on the head) is probably not going to be so bad. Not sure if that is misery likes company, but my thoughts
What will happen to that broken board? Wall hang? Giveaway? Sign and sell to a fan? Just curious, as you guys seem to go through a lot of boards and I often wonder what you do with them. Just a haole from Santa Monica asking questions. Keep up the great work, Koa and Jack.
Legends Only Session! Super sick video! Love the drone footage and the tunes are perfect!Good to see Mason back on the north shore! I’m still psyched on your Portugal ride! Stay safe fellas! 🤙
Definitely have rolled out at sunrise amped for the swell, and left my board, wetsuit, contacts (wearing glasses). I’ve left all the things because of early morning psych. The worst feeling. 😅 Great vid.
Sweet work, good deal! .. I gotta question Was it more mellow in the afty so you didn’t wear the padded suit? Or was it just colder in the morning? Set
How long can you hold your breadth and have you had any close encounters with being held under...especially the Eddie! Could you describe what goes underwater
The paddle out can sometimes become a gnarly workout.Using the rip as a conveyor belt to get out there works well as done in this reel. Less duck dives you do conserves the energy you will need to use on that next “bomb” your about to catch! See you out there.
Koa you need a sea plane. The rumor last week KS was taking one to surf Black's in San Diego. I haven't seen any videos though. Supposedly there's video Kelly surfed Seal Beach bowl's. Sea plane Koa,great video
I remember in the early '60's when legendary big wave rider Greg Noll bravely became the first to ride the 3rd reef at Pipe! That ride was filmed and catch it on RUclips.
Bro u n ur crew is solid top notch! I'm jealous of the life style. Y'all out there surfing everyday, I'm working construction everyday damn... Shoulda been a better surfer lmao 🤣
I am confused on which Reef waves you are riding? I can usually tell 2nd Reef from 1st Reef. But it would cool if in the future you could label them in the video.
When you have an hour and a half to surf and it takes an hour to paddle out. lol
Yup, especially if you live above 50° latitude and only have eight daylight hours in which to go back for another wettie that withstands 8°C when the one I brung zipper seized up and sprung a hole. Then a 45 minute swim out is a nice warm up. Thankfully I’m not at Pipe.
Hahahahah it's true
Looked reputable to me
Gave myself an hour the other day and took 30 mins to paddle out thru the impact zone.... 😭

Instinct and stamina
He won’t tell so the kooks can’t make it out in pipe🙃🙃

@@foxgd88 probably for the better... lol

Yep.
As a surfer, I enjoy seeing how the pros handle big, or tough water situations.
Thanks!

Yeah I get it too, i lived on the NS for awhile and this really brings me back 🤙🏽
This video is my favorite!!Thank you Koa from the guy with the onewheel you took a pic with maybe 5 seconds before this video starts! One of the most memorable days of my life. I’ve been watching since you started and appreciate you taking the time to make my day even better.
So smooth, thanks for taking me with you!

The perks of being one of da boys!🤙🤙
Shoulder hopping drop-ins too…… the other guy was in way better position.

13:01 dude dropping in then turning back after seeing Koa? pretty cool
“Camera man in the background” Jack is more of a legend than any other north shore 20something. Give my man some credit!
Jack officially calling surfers into pipe from the beach is legendary

Great Video, love the paddle outs and raw footage vids. Shoot more Hawaiian adventures in gorgeous places doing cool shit to help peeps!
Thanks, Koa this was great! I am using what you shared as research for a surfing scene in my sci-fi book series "The Paladin Code". Love it keep surfing and keep sharing!
Great as always. I like the paddle out and day in the life as well as the surf. Living vicariously
That drone guy was as just as good as the guys in the water 😂
More paddle out videos as long as we can have Jack commentating with a white claw in the background! 🤙🏻
Love the paddling out in big surf videos. Do more, please!
Pov of being in the line up!! Hearing everyone out there. Be awesome to hear the intensity out there!!

You definitely timed your paddle outs about as good as possible ! Experience is *everything* ! Nice vid as usual

amazing how far you came from cervical injury, hats off.. keep training up.
I feel like I learn a lot with the paddle out vids. I can see your flow start to finish and try to replicate it to surf better. Thanks Koa
Definitely love the paddle out and beat down vids.
Not all the time but paddle out and also you paddling or positioning for a wave are gold ! Thank you.
Drone shots are insane !!!

Love your vids Koa, as much as the surfing is cool to watch, you also throw in nuggets of info that are super interesting and I'm learning so much just from watching your vids. Thanks so much for the epic content!
I was curious what the paddle out was to third reef, thanks...appreciate you keeping it real, living the dream.. working hard to do so..
Love that you kept his audio in behind that music about the party prepping lol
Timing the paddle out is equal parts skill and luck. Sometimes an “endless set” will ruin your plans. Looks like you had both, and caught plenty waves! Go Koa!
wow, that drone footage at 3:26 is awesome.
Love the paddle out videos, would love to see videos from you explaining how you duck under those big waves coming down on you so easily. Also love to hear how you progressed to catching bigger waves

POV vids are always amazing 🙂 maybe bring on of those too. OMG that sunset at the end.....true paradise you are LIVIN and surfing!
Love a good paddle out clip. Tell us more about the board, especially dims!
We call it, Wearing the Halo. When you are in the zone, you just get out unscathed, while all around is carnage. Koa wearing the halo here.
THIS VLOG IS 🔥🔥🔥
Man, that makes me breath heavy just watching. Takes sick cardio and stamina to do that. Thanks as always for sharing these vids! :-)
Wow that sunset is amazing
Yours vids always show the realities of surfing.
I cracked up when you said you forgot your board. Then again, it was morning. 😬
Yes, more paddle outs. More raw footage, cameraman talking, background oontz oontz, etc
Nice Sesh!!..That paddle out looked easy for you..but i think most people..including myself..would be gassed after that.. 💚🤙🏽
Lovin' this is LIvin'. Cool to watch someone paddle out in such huge gnarly conditions and make it out.
This topless guy have been denied priority many times...not cool koa...
Definitely have rolled out at sunrise amped for the swell, and left my board, wetsuit, contacts (wearing glasses). I’ve left all the things because of early morning psych. The worst feeling. 😅 Great vid.
The drone footage is awesome 😎
Can you talk about the dims of your boards and the model.
Thanks!
Keep posting paddle out videos!!
U boys are truly livin 🤙🏼
More paddle out footage please Also what do you do with your old boards can they be fixed
On really tough paddle-outs all you can hear is the pounding surf and Jack giggling.
Paddle out videos are great
Lucky man indeed that closing shot with the music was epic
4:30 awesome drone shot on this ride
He makes that paddle out look so easy... when really the amount of water moving was absolutely insane💯🤙🏄
Shit bro I’ve been surfing ove r 50 years, and now with arthritis in both shoulders, I can only watch in awe of you guys who completely charge it!!!
s
So epic! I always thought i just got extra worked more than everybody else just gotta be persistent.
Sweet work, good deal! .. I gotta question
Was it more mellow in the afty so you didn’t wear the padded suit? Or was it just colder in the morning? Set

what’s the name of the song playing during the paddle out 2:27

Awesome video! If possible in addition of paddle out , include views of the actual waves that you will be surfing in the same sequence.
Really enjoy your vlog..keep it up!!
A pipeline session raw Pov would be nice video like the one Jamie did! 💪🏻🍀
How deep is the water at 3rd reef? Is it more or less dangerous than normal pipe?
How deep is the water at normal pipe?

Your a legend Koa

Love the Willy Morris airbrush from the 80's
Whats the new drone camera.
Didn't see any 3rd reef.
Great video.
Koa are you surfing the EDDIE????
Really liked the paddle outs
KiaOra 🤙🏽More paddle out vids plz....charging Bro 👊🏽 from New Zealand 🤑
Video and music is 🔥🔥
I remember in the early '60's when legendary big wave rider Greg Noll bravely became the first to ride the 3rd reef at Pipe! That ride was filmed and catch it on RUclips.
It would be super cool if you could do the chapters feature, especially titling them with who's surfing what wave.
Bro u n ur crew is solid top notch! I'm jealous of the life style. Y'all out there surfing everyday, I'm working construction everyday damn...
Shoulda been a better surfer lmao 🤣
what was the tide doing when you went out?...is it better at high tide, rising, declining or low to 3rd reef on a big day...
Yeah keep up the paddle out vids 🤙🤙
NICE Broooo. I wish you a good 2023.
I am confused on which Reef waves you are riding? I can usually tell 2nd Reef from 1st Reef. But it would cool if in the future you could label them in the video.
Thanks Koa🤙
