Copper plating FAIL #1 on AXE

This is the 1st attempt at copper plating . I used the proper formula. It looked like a brand new copper penny up to a point, then it began to either; peel off of the axe, or was so thin when it would flake off when touched. I tried several different voltages with a 4 amp battery charger and 2 different voltages of phone charger. I made this sharps container into an electrolysis bucket. This works amazing for etching metal, but I could not make it work for copper plating. If anyone has any comments on how to actually do this, please let me know.
