The most Team points for wins at the end of a season adds up to various Conference Trophies/Home Ice Advantages going into the Play Offs, etc. It doesn't *really* mean that much, as a lot of teams over the years have collected a lot of Trophies and supposed advantages, yet never made it to the Cup Final or won a Cup, so it's mostly of indirect bragging rights, and lets a Team hang a banner in their home arena rafters I guess.

Didn't touch much on the coaching situation, Florida's coach knows his stuff that is for certain but Edmonton's Knoblauch is a cut above, his style comes by way of the minor leagues. Having said that, to be successful there requires outside the box strategizing and balls of steel, he has these in spades. Florida may or may not have the better team, that's a 50/50 call, but the Oilers coaching staff is that team's secret weapon.Florida's coach has never won a cup, the Oilers coaching staff have four... and all that it implies. Paul Maurice (Panthers) has coached 1849 games in his career, starting in the 95-96 season, while Kris Knoblauch (Oilers) is coaching his very first season, and because he took over in the middle of the season, he has coached only 69 (nice) NHL games

no canadian based team has won since '93 (when bettman became commissioner) but every team has canadian players as they're still 40+% of the league. if you ever go to a finals to watch a team and a canadian based team is in it go to the canadian city, it's just bonkers like edmonton this year. montreal has the loudest crowds in the nhl and when they make it to the finals again (3-4 years) it will be insane. any canadian based team that makes the playoffs the city goes nuts though. florida has a very small fan base, it's very muted compared to edmonton where it's off the hook. if edmonton wins the party will last a week.

The team has always been called the Florida Panthers. The team used to play in the old Miami Arena (Downtown Miami/with the Heat) until they built a new arena in the city of Sunrise (Broward County). South Florida is basically a tri-county area. Miami, Broward, and Palm beach Counties. Miami being the farthest south and Palm Beach, the farthest north. They really arent that far apart. I live in the farthest southwest area of Miami and it takes me 45 minutes to get to the Arena. It takes me at least 30 minutes to get to the Kaseya Center (home of the Heat) which is downtown Miami. Broward is right in the middle so it made sense to build it there. The tri-county area supports all the South Florida 😢teams.
