- If you ever wanted to know how to save a Google WebP image file as a JPEG then this is the video for you. This is a great trick to know if you ever bump into this type of file on Google.
Wikipedia:
"WebP is an image format employing both lossy and lossless compression. It is currently developed by Google, based on technology acquired with the purchase of On2 Technologies.
As a derivative of the VP8 video format, it is a sister project to the WebM multimedia container format. WebP-related software is released under a BSD license.
The format was first announced on September 30 in 2010 as a new open standard for lossy compressed true-color graphics on the web, producing smaller files of comparable image quality to the older JPEG scheme.[10] On October 3, 2011, Google announced WebP support for animation, ICC profile, XMP metadata, and tiling (compositing very large images from maximum 16384×16384 tiles)". Doesnt work for me from a certain webpage. Tried your method & the last few lines of the file are roub.jpg even though it will only save it to a webp file.
It does work. U just need to figure out which part u need to delete
Thank you for not dancing around the steps and just getting to it. Great instructions sir.
Any time!
@1:27 the image, Open image in new tab
at the top URL, delete the letter/s at the end part, all the way, leaving .jpg
hit Enter
the image again, should see the save as .jpg format option available.
Thanks! you're welcome! ~worked for me in firefox and google
Glad it worked for you
Doesn't work. There's no 2 and question mark. It ends with jpeg
in my computer it didn't work ☹☹
Why this video doesn't have a million views is beyond me. Golden tip!!! Thank you!!!!

This is no longer working....There is no question mark etc...when it is opened in a new tab...
I have the same issue
Thank you for the information.
Thank you so much this worked exactly as you showed. I was really struggling for about an hour and finally I found your video. Thanks again
You are welcome!
doesnt work for every
I think they have caught on to your method. :(
I did noticed that sometimes it will not let me do it. It still allows me to sometimes, it depends on what website I'm on. You could always use a screen capture software to get the images like Snagit which I use often.
Not work for me, but thanks for the hint!
Sorry it did not work for you Missony. This can be very tricky sometimes when doing it. Once in awhile I had to click on the image to enlarge it and then it worked from that point. Then sometimes it would work better if I did not click on the image. They make it to hard sometimes to do the simplest things.
Thanks a lot for the help with this annoying issue
You are very welcome!
Doesn't work for me on a Mac..... Any alt. tips????
Are you using the Google Chrome browser or Safari since it is on a Mac? You could always grab a Screen snipping software which would allow you to get the image. Then save it as you want it. There is a good article I found on options for this. It is geared towards the Mac. launchberg.com/best-snipping-tools-for-mac/
I hope this helps you out.
@@DavesComputerTips - Bless you... Thanks for the reply.... Managed to sort it now.... Managed to find a FFox add-on and now have "save WebP as" option in my right click menu now! :)
Thank you. Excellent and precise instructions. It's so easy once you are shown how to do it.
Glad it was helpful!
thank you so much, your video is so helpful!!!
Glad it was helpful!
@@DavesComputerTipsit didnt work, still had the “all files” option
What about when there is no c=2 at the end? just .jpg and nothing else following it
Just found the work around-DON'T USE GOOGLE, problem solved. I copied and pasted the url into another browser and was able to save as a jpeg.
I had the same issue with one but all I did was leave the page and come back to try it again. Glad you found a work around and shared it with us. Always appreciate when my viewers share. :)
@@kickzo thank youu!
Thank you for this! Amazing! This tidbit of a tip is going to be a HUGE time safer. Been doing screenshots and saving through whatever editor.
Awe, this doesn't work for me. :(
Thank you.
You're welcome!
I tried this on an photo in an ESTY gallery and the new window does not come up witth a link ....dont know how else to do this.
That didn't happen in Edge. What I did is after I open the new tab, I deleted the WEBP and replaced it with JPG. That worked
Thanks for sharing that tip. Greatly appreciated!
Thanks a lot, man
You're welcome!
This also happens when I try to copy images off of DCT. Thanks for the tip!
hmm does not work for me. I never had a problem doing saves from websites for things I wanted to use. All the sudden it switched to avi files. Then one time it went back to jpeg but no longer working. Your video steps did not work. Any ideas?
Important! Unfortunately it doesn't work with Firefox
Me too! But, I was able to do it with Safari. Hope that helps! ✌
thanks mate
You're welcome!
it happens with everything I try to save
I did not get the “ Save image as”, I had “save as” so it did not work for me.
what if the image on the website can't be clicked separately, the problem is the same! Is there any other way?
If that is not working then the only other option that I can think of is using a screen capture software like SnagIt 12. There are others but that one is what I use
Thank you!
You're welcome!

THANK YOU SO MUCH I WAS TRYING TO SET A WALLPAPER AND I KEPT SAVING AS MS PAINT FILE
Did not work for me. Only on a few images.
Hi Seloha,
I have had the same issues but found a couple of tricks that might help. If the image is not working try to click on the image to enlarge it. Then do the process or have it as the smaller image then do the process. Once in awhile doing the opposite of how you did it the first time works. Also if it is still not working you can try it on another browser and saving the image from there.
Another option is to get a screen capture software like Snagit. That way you can take a picture of the image you want off the screen then save it as anything you want. With the Snagit tool you can crop to the exact place you want to take the image from. It does cost money but well worth the investment www.techsmith.com/store/snagit . You probable can find other screen shot tools out there but I think this one gives you so many options it is worth looking at.

You are so welcome
Amazing! Thanks!!
Glad you like it!
What?? Only 8 thumbs up before I got here? Sheesh. I found that to be a really cool tip.
Having said that, I wanted to try it out. In Firefox 79 I went to a website where I'd recently seen a webp image and right-clicked on it, but there was no option in the context menu to open it in another tab. Undaunted, I looked at the menu again and saw an option to _copy the image location,_ so I did that and pasted the URL into a new browser tab. There I could see and delete the code at the end, as you instructed, back to "gif" (in this case the image was animated, not a jpg).
But when I hit Enter I was given a "forbidden" message by the server.
So I'll definitely keep this little trick up my sleeve, but do you have any modified suggestions, for my case? Alternatively, I'd like to find an _image viewer_ that can open webp images -- and works in a linux environment.
Magic! Thank You!
You're welcome!
thanks man, bless you
