      Usually wasps are scavengers and only eat dead prey, sometimes even eating other wasps from their hive (including their siblings). They will sometimes attack other animals to get the meat and bring it to the hive though. This is mostly other bugs like bees, caterpillars, and spiders.
      So with all this in mind. A wasp may only eat a human after it's already dead. It would be too much of a hassle for them to try to kill us then bring us back to the hive. OP was more than likely just making the wasps jobs easier.

    I've had so many people tell me "oh, wasps aren't gonna hurt you if you leave them alone" and my response is always "Bees, you're thinking of BEES. A wasp killed my mother for looking at it"
    I grew up in an area with more wasps than spiders. I can guarantee you that most wasps can and will fight you for merely existing in their vicinity.

      You’re likely creating a self fulfilling prophecy. I’ve regularly allowed wasps near me and never been stung once. They’re curious, and will approach, but you fuck with them and they remember. Which is a survival instinct. Corvids also memorize faces much in a similar manner (ravens, crows,etc).

      Interesting how different the experiences in this comment section are. I wonder, if it varies by region and most dominant species of bees, wasps, and hornets.
      And the only time I was stung by a wasp, was when directly stepping into one barefoot. (I think the circumstances totally justified her respose though. Would have done the same in her position.)
      They are usually super chill around me and I don't mistake them for bees, my grandfather is a beekeeper.

    • @krea8402
      @krea8402 Год назад

      @@nograe You make a fair point, it's entirely possible I just grew up in an area with particularly nasty wasps and hornets. I think the other big problem we had was that we had multitudes of hornets that would make our playgrounds, homes, and outdoor furniture their homes. It was easy to piss them off because we didn't know they had set up shop in something we actually use. Any hole or pipe you had outside would become a wasp nest if left alone long enough. We had recurring problems of wasps building nests in our trampoline frame that would come out all pissed off when we would unknowingly disturb their home.

    • @nograe
      @nograe Год назад +1

      @@krea8402 Interesting. Seems like there lived more yellow striped creatures in your area than mine, which might contributed to simply by chance alone highten the risk of coming across one that decides to sting and the pressure of competition probably made them more aggressive too.
      We had wasps live under the tiles of our roof, but since they entered and exited from the outside they never posed a problem, and my dad once had to work on some reconstruction at our house maybe 30-40 cm away a hornet nest and all he did was hang up some plastic sheet inbetween and they didn't sting him once, eventhough some visited and crawled over his arms. They where super chill for some reason.
      But apart from that we didn't really have nests close by. Only a good bunch full visiting us on the balcony, that nested some place else.
