    vocal samples from Randy Crawford's cover of "Just to keep you satisfied"
    and the section where he's talking about the radio transmitter is Tony Hancock's The Radio Ham (the vinyl recording of course as opposed to the televised sketch which ended differently)

    Most of us have moved on, personally when I play out I use Serato. But my vinyl collection runs over 10K deep, and when playing a smaller venue I do prefer vinyl. Holding something tangible such as a record and flipping through a crate full of records it's easier to connect fully with the music. It's easy to stare at a cpu screen and drag and drop MP3s, but your connecting connecting with the computer more so than the music and you can loose a crowd very quick.

    I think Theo Parrish & Francois K have made valid points about people seeming to be consumed with convenience these days, with MP3 anyway. If you want digital, buy & rip the 12"? Plenty of labels putting out 12" singles release compilations on CD so its not as if theyre dismissing anybody who isnt into vinyl. I think its good to keep vinyl culture alive, or at least the mentality of hunting for tracks.

    The underground dance music scene was started on small independent labels and it will continue on small independent label into the future I hope.Records are the only means that a small independent label can track its releases and keep the money coming in for the next release. Mp3s and shared music has the potential to kill indpendent labels.

    @kyle2point Because a DJ deals with objects that has music trapt inside them, so fysical things( As Theo parrish would like to say) . And if you turn the wheel on your CDJ, you don't get the the feeling that you're working with fysical things, are you?
    And using MP3's of shitty quality is not a good tribute to the producer who made it,.
    Basicaly you're stealing from someone. So a real dj support their DJ by buying the vinyl. Hope I made the point clear
    Grt! Ocke

  • @hellakooked
    @hellakooked 13 лет назад

    @kyle2point 1. do a bit of research and you will find that you can achieve a greater frequency range on vinyl then digital files ... thus... better sound. that's why all the dubstep dudes are pressing dubplates, to get that HEAVY bass that mp3's can't handle. 2. it keeps things intimate, personal, unique, and real. everyone with a computer can get the same files no problem. but EVERYONE'S RECORD COLLECTION is different. that's fun man! express yo self!
    :) cheers from detroit!

    @kyle2point Where do you think music comes from? people spend huge amounts of time and money on making it, and here you are crying, "Waaah! Music should be FREE so I can go out and BE MR. DJ without putting in ANY effort whatsoever!". Its insulting and you dont need to be wealthy. You need a JOB.

  • @kyle2point
    @kyle2point 14 лет назад

    @aalbrecht1902
    so we're keeping good music exclusivley for the wealthy? fuk that, if anybody has access to any song, (which they do), the dj scene will explode (which it has), which can only mean people will have to shine through more to be heard, i like when cultures have to adapt to new changes, it's part of the story.

    in which way is releasing things digital "moving forward"?

  • @flabaire
    @flabaire 13 лет назад

    @kyle2point the sound quality on vinyl is wayy better than any mp3 or CD or other bullshit ...
    just try it and you'll understand why there are still vinyl lovers ...
    and i don't know if you've ever mixed, but there is no comparaison in how it is better with vinyl - cd turntables ? biggest joke ever - traktor ? still not the same
    music is a physical thing bro
    "Not everyone can understand what is house music, it's a spiritual thing, a body thing, a soul thing..."

  • @AlexWoodGarbage
    @AlexWoodGarbage 13 лет назад

    @kyle2point Should we force the world's orchestras to start using digital instruments, because that's "the way forward"? There's a reason certain violins are worth millions or dollars. Same reason certain artists (villalobos) choose to play out music on vinyl: The sound specific to that instrument. The depth of vinyl will never be properly reproduced with digital tracks. MP3 is good enough, or great even, but those that prefer vinyl have a very valid reason to do so.

  • @kyle2point

    @liennto i'm currently studying electronic/urban sound production at james watt college, i know the music industry and what's involved in it, but i believe in the greater good because i'm not a submissive pussy, it's almost heartbreaking that music even has a price tag on it all.

  • @MetamorphicRecs
    @MetamorphicRecs 13 лет назад

    @kyle2point
    actually, the question is why do you think changing a format is musical or artistic progress? your premise is flawed so your argument is false. what if the new format is what retards the progress?

  • @liennto
    @liennto 14 лет назад

    @kyle2point the greater good is professional musicians getting paid properly for being professional musicians. whether a drummer, dj/producer, songwriter, composer... its no different than any other profession as it takes a lifetime to perfect. so to get back to your original question, ONE reason serious musicians have a soft spot for vinyl is that, to a certain degree, its an un-replicable and in-demand item; and this helps keep at least a shred of integrity to the craft.

  • @rubernesan
    @rubernesan 13 лет назад

    @kyle2point
    Vinyl is the medium that keeps you closer to music. Even though this might by an emotional argument that is a legit one. Technological advancement is not per se the same as a progression.
    Analogy: I could have such an advanced computer program that could process images that look like actual charcoal. But when comparing the results you'll always see what real charcoal is and that it differs so in the way the line is put (dynamics, depth, etc.).
    Besides: listen to the warmth of vinyl

  • @BigDudeSuperstar
    @BigDudeSuperstar 13 лет назад

    @kyle2point - first of all the quality, the sound quality has not yet been beaten even on CDs, although you are able to make tracks in a lossless non-comprimised quality on a computer, but this is not organic at all. True music has soul bro.

    Apart from the physical nature of manipulating vinyl,which most DJ's prefer ( compare it to actually driving a car rather than being a passenger), a sine wave of a sound wave recorded onto vinyl follows a very pure curve,it's a very approximate representation of the sound heard. Whereas a digitally recorded sound follows a far more clipped path when observed as a sine wave,this is due to the nature of digital conversions of both sound and light. I love vinyl but its time has come.

  • @grooveshelter
    @grooveshelter 12 лет назад

    @kyle2point it comes from the love for the musical roots. analog love. it comes from the loudness of vinyl music. and the crispy clarity. and the hiss, pops, and crackles. maybe you'll feel it someday.

    Vinyl is the coolest, and thats about that. Most folks making this kind of music are using samplers or programs to do so and mix the down music.
    "Vinyl" only works if the ENTIRE chain is analog.
    Math.
    Folks argue on a COMPUTER about what medium music is to be played on and why.
    How ironic.
    Herbie Hancock & Miles Davis were ridiculed for embracing synths, and new music technology.
    Wake up.
    The music itself is bigger than all of this. Spread it as far as possible.
    Access.
    Get over it.

    Does anyone agree; KDJ seems like a sorta demi god for those interested in vinyl and alternative music.
    These days as a DJ I try to avoid incorporating Moody into my sets. His fame has cheapened him a little, well for me anyway.
    But at the same time it's almost as if he's set a new bench mark for me to work towards in my sets. When I'm mixing for an audience - I try to maintain that same deep, druggy, jazzual and sexual atmosphere created by his songs but without using his material.
