Idk about "made for" but it's the most wholesome kind of value youtube provides, which is a true gift. Knowledge is free in a way it never has been. Knowledge will help us set ourselves free of the cages we have been born into, mentally and physically.
I am no expert but you are starting to get the Paul Gautschi effect (back to Eden benefits). You are getting compounding goodness of good soil. He's been doing it for 30 to 40 years. Good Job Jim!
I know how it feels about the box life, I use to work retail and after a accident that cause me a bad injury. I reflect on the one thing I liked and now I'm gardening full time myself. I'm young, but willing to learn more lol. Started at 21 years old
My parents had us in the garden at under one year old. We planted as a family annually. Still do it, now, taking over my entire yard. Mowing is annoying.
This is my dream, I could die completely happy doing this for the rest of my life no matter what the monetary yield is.It's just that navigating the bureaucratic nature of starting a business or being allowed to have a large farm is scary. Lot's of respect and love for you guys for spreading the word and just being really cool in general.
More of my neighbors are planting now since covid. For food security, but also just for mental wellness. Passing food and seeds over the fences. It's a great thing.
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL Yes it is. It would be interesting to see what the people in his neighborhood think about what he's doing. They probably benefit from his work, but are any of them trying to do what he's doing even on a smaller scale?
It's not about getting hired. You just need to learn the skills, and start composting. If you live in an apartment, you can start with container gardening. Start setting small goals, and aim for ideas that let what you grow sustain you, either by sales or by nourishment. If you have to start with an apartment, aeroponic gardening and grow lights might also be a good start. It may not be growing quite like in nature, but no chemicals are needed, so it can be natural and organic. I haven't built my own aeroponic garden containers yet, but I am certain that it is possible to use reclaimed plastics, like two liters, buckets, milk cartons, etc, so build an effective aeroponic container for indoor gardening. I'm just learning like everyone. My partner just build our first containers for raised beds in the yard of rental house. We don't have an HOA and laid back landlords. It all depends on your situation. But the lesson I cherish most from my ancestors is, "use what you have, start where you are.'
Jim's gardens look absolutely beautiful! Love the drone shots showing how things are planted, very helpful in planning my front yard garden! Thanks Pete
Just walking out your door and already working is the best feeling ever. NO stress of a 8 - 4pm..... am a lettuce farmer doing 4 beds @ 224 heads per bed with 7 days interval between harvesting, man I tell you, life could only get better.
Yes and I also eat brussel sprouts, broccoli, and cauliflower but when I think it's to much I share with my rabbits...they are my babies .. especially cause they are an anniversary present...all I have to do is walk outside and it's like they sense me and know it me or my husband and love fresh treats daily!!!

Jim’s garden is so beautiful. I love how he plants the lettuces in those alternating triangles, and all of the knowledge is awesome. Thanks for all of the videos, Pete! By the way, your edible landscaping work is genius. You provide many great ideas for my HOA-restricted yard.
I absolutely love your videos with Jim. So inspiring to see how much he respects his soil and enjoys connecting to what he is doing. Wish I lived close to him so I could support what he is doing. He has really inspired me to start growing my food.
I love gardening n what you do is amazing.your garden is awesome I am a retired chef from up north n my youngest daughter is also a chef n recently transferred here to Orlando. I came down with her to care for my 3 Grandchildren n it’s such a blessing. We have rented the past 2 yrs n my Daughter is looking at property to buy here with a home on it. We planted 3 raised beds n I was amazed how quickly things grow here.I hope God blesses us with plenty of quality land to produce enough food for our family n friends.Thank you for allowing us to see what can be done in a small space keep enjoying life n feeding your neighbors,
This is cool, I wish I had land to grow on. I'm just starting indoors and I'm getting 2lbs per 18"x48" wire rack shelf of lettuce and mixed greens every 2 weeks on average, under only 80w of light per shelf and it just keeps regrowing after each harvest, amazing! Incredibly clean and fresh, easy to grow and maintain.
Love this after seeing plants in my garden, greenhouse from snovid here in n texas. My seedlings look like they will pull thru, I brought into the house a few feet from my fireplace, only lost heat for a few days. WHen we asked to turn power down, figure. Loosing plants was better than plumping repairs or taking power from the next house. Got my hopes up for spring in my 4000 sq fr garden, decided I will be dbl the size. Finally got me a larger freezer
Thank you, how well we know the destruction Florida sees with hurricanes as well. I have a large track of property behind my office, told my husband I wanted to turn into some form of community garden some time back. I believe I am ready to give that a push

Thanks Pete, we always enjoy when Jim is on your show. I LOVE LEEKS!!! I have such a horrible time even finding them here near New Orleans that when I do find a bunch or two or three, I get them all. I like the green part best so when I get them, I cut the tops off and stick the white part in a long stem flower vase and just keep adding water and cutting the green part to use. they last for months! one got 4 ft tall in the vase! I grew my own last year.
I love Jim's ethos, he's so community based and sincere about his business , as well as caring for the soil and working in good relationship with the plants. great video , thanks for sharing.
I'm surprised the town isn't taxing you but then again you're in Florida. Here in Connecticut they were trying to limit us as to how many plants of each vegetable we could have in our backyard. We'd never get away with it in the front yard. They would definitely want a cut of the action. Good for you. I love my garden. It's therapy for me. LOL
Thank You for the inspirations. Looking out at snow in Northern Maine but knowing planting time is not to far away. These videos always make me smile. Thank You!!!!
You got it right Pete, Jim EARNED that money. He's doing a great job. It looks like he has almost no bug pressure. It's really difficult to really produce food on a small scale. It takes a lot of planning, the right tools, and many hours of maintenance and hard work. Don't forget, his days "off" are probably spent working at the market. It's not getting any easier with all of the people wanting to try out growing food for themselves, which I practice and totally support, as you both mentioned a reduced seed availability. You're probably seeing the same thing with fruit trees. I love farming but I am taking all of this into account as I make plans for the future.

Im so EXCITED I decided recently that i was going to go ahead and try to get into a farmers market this season instead of waiting a year. I have things i need to set up for it still (like an llc). And im incredibly nervous about it! But if i manage to average $500 a week over a 20 week market im going to be impressed with myself. My garden this year will be 20 rows 30 ft long, and the pumpkins, winter squash and melons im going to plant on my fruit tree plot that i will just completely mulch over so i dont have to worry about weeds (for the "neighborhood" (people dont understand what food is 🤦♀️)). My plan is to plant 100 ft each of 5 different different berries next year and some fruit and native trees for biodiversity. So much has to happen for that its overwhelming. All of my beds are going to be on woodchips from the tree guys i got last summer with rows built up 3 inches from zoo manure/composting program. And surrounding by electric fence from the dumb deer, they destroyed the garden last year. 😔 Honestly i dont think i would have had the guts to do this if i hadnt been watching Jim for years. Most of the market videos are super rigid guys with a crew of people helping and all this fancy equipment. But Jim is one guy bobbing along without fancy equipment. So if he can do a half acre surely i can do 18000 sq ft (bed space).... Thank you Jim and Pete for capturing all of Jim's wisdom 🙏
Really Mr.Jim is the precious Jem for their neighbours. No need of pesticides if they grow with sufficient nutrients & no need of medicines if we try to live like Mr.Jim👍
