I had the same one as I watched your video yours did just what mine did . The end or tip got so hot the it seam to have bent , but in reality the plastic that holes the tool together melted too. Had to take mine back and they replaced it. But same thing happened again

Is there a plastic that will meld with different plastics, if you don't know the type of plastic you are working with?

The mesh is to strengthen your repair when needed.

I see you ran into the same problem with your soldering tip rod bending under the heat and pressure, it looks like a little flaw in Harbor Freights tool, I just bent mine back and it still works. You did a nice job using yours, it takes a little practice to get smooth results. If you are plastic welding Honda fenders it's good to find some of the same material to weld with. I found a frisbee disk that was the same red color and cut into strips to use as welding rods. It worked great, then just sanded off until desired smoothness.

Thank you for sharing the tips. I have a cracked water pump plastic housing and I tried welding it with a regular soldering iron but it still leak oil. After watching what you did, I think I will give it another try. How is the tank doing so far?

I have the same welder and am learning how to use it myself. HF does sell replacement repair sticks but they are not as wide as the originals and come in a few different colors, but not black. My issue so far is my inability to smooth the surface out w/ the welder and when that doesnt work trying to smooth it out by sanding or trimming w/ xacto knife etc. Neither seem to work well on plastic. Any advice?

I have cracks on my car dashboard. Do i have to remove that from my car before I weld?

Mesh *can* be used for very large gaps .... it is recommended to cut patches and not try filling in the mesh.
I'm more familiar with hot air welding .

As you can see the tip of the welder is bending because the metal used is too soft and too long and risk of breaking. The solution to this problem it's to cut the welder tip of around 7 mm. This way the welder tip will be shorter what will reduce stress on the tip and the risk of breaking it. I f you have a thread on the tip , you can add more thread with tap and die kit, this will allow you to screw the rod deeper and remove 7 or 8 mm of the tip

Worked alright, if you doing on a gas tank make sure it is completely dry think I was too much in a hurry to do mine it held for months but made a little drip so I got over the drip and just decided to replace the whole tank with another one. But ya if you take your time and do it right it should work fine

The mesh is used to do large areas like an actual quarter size hole ETC, you can use it to strengthen but the idea is so you can apply it over a hole without having to use to mush of the plastic sticks, nice try Ryan :)

O I thought I should add the procedure on how to use the mesh, cut slightly overlapping piece of mesh and first weld it on the outside of the mesh edges, then proceed to cover the mesh.
