My understanding was that Diana found the armor wherever it was that Asteria dropped it in the men's world, I assumed as part of her duties as an anthropologist. They've definitely made it seem like no other Amazonians have left Themyscira, and Asteria didn't go back. Also, yes, Kingdom Come is great, and anyone who hasn't read it definitely should.
The film added a ton to the lore. A new take on Invisibility and use for it. Great. The armor's history. Great. How flight came came to be. Poetic. Loved it.
The first time I ever saw that armor was in the crossover event Our Worlds At War where the Justice League, Teen Titans, Young Justice, etc. all had to band together to defend the Earth from massive numbers of alien invaders. Diana, Donna, Cassie, and Hippolyta all had their own versions of the armor, and it allowed them to function in space (which was very important). It also provided better protection than the metal and cloth Amazon garb they normally wore.
In the movie the winner of the tournament did not get to wear the armor because Diana didn’t find it until a millennial later in the world of man while she was looking for The ancient Amazonian
It's an golden golden eagle armor/suit/costume you see the animal it represent it's an golden eagle(Zeus's sacred animal) and it's also golden as the metal, so yeah
Was anybody else’s reaction to Wonder Woman’s armor when they first saw it in the trailer “OH MY GOD ITS THE GOLD CLOTH FROM SAINT SEIYA YES” no just me? Yeah that’s understandable
I wouldn't say it does nothing. It's basic physics that whenever you wear a full set of golden armor your power increases relative to the position of the sun
Love seeing the art of ALex Ross, George Perez and Phil Jimenez. Great video. There WAS a time where the armor saved Wonder Woman's life... I cant remember if it was Diana or Hypolita. It was during Jimenez' run and involved space and Green Lanterns.
I was kind of disappointed with how the armor was integrated, I didn’t know about this armors existence so when I first saw the trailer I though Hawkgirl was gonna be in the movie which got me super hyped
You didn't do the Wonder Woman Spin when you put on the tiara and bracelets. Also in WW84 i think Diana says she just search for the armor. So they couldn't have had it for the Amazons to wear.
They should take inspiration from Saint Seiya with this armor. Make it a sacred relic gifted to the amazons by Athena herself, a living and almost sentient armor that can only be worn by a warrior loyal to Athena and that gives a x100 boost in power to the wearer, makes her impervious to all damage except divine attacks and that is equipped with a golden bow and a single golden arrow capable of one shotting a god.
"Kingdom Come" was the worst thing that ever happened to Wonder Woman. It's a great story but it's also the root of every bad direction the character has been taken in. The Screaming Chicken armour is meant to be Wonder Woman at her lowest point. Her entire arc in that story was realising she had lost her way and needed to rediscover her true nature as a champion for peace. Sadly so many writers didn't get it and that lead to WW being written as a bloodthirsty savage. Don't give me that "she's a warrior" nonsense; practically EVERY superhero is a warrior because they fight evil. Superman is a warrior and he doesn't go around chopping people up with a big grin while boasting about the enemies he's slaughtered. The "warrior first" direction completely ignores what Wonder Woman is supposed to be; a champion for peace, compassion and forgiveness. She's not Xena, she's not Red Sonja, she's Wonder Woman. When I first saw the trailers I face-palmed. Like you said it was a classic example of throwing something in so they can go "see, see, we researched the comics" while completely ignoring the context and what it actually means. It's disgraceful.
This makes her getting her powers back really dumb as getting the armour would have actually been her loop hole for the wishing. She could have realised she relied too much on the armour and took back her wish after.
Probably not what writers were going for, but the bird-themed armor (to me) could be a reference to the Stymphalian birds in the sixth labor of Heracles or the arrow-birds Ares gave to the amazons to guard his shrine. They are sometimes identified as one and the same. They were metallic birds the size of a crane that can shoot their feathers like arrows/bullets. Though, like I said, they probably didn't get their armor idea from greek myths.

Diane states that she search everywhere for the armor. Because of the events of the first movie, she is forbidden to go back to the island because she went off with a man. So, I don't think the armor is won due to a rite of passage but just an Artifact left over from another time.
To be fair the armor doesn't really have to do anything except be strong enough to protect her from attacks. I mean that's what armor normally does. I imagine this fulfills the same role as regular human armor but on a whole other level. But now I'm wondering if it's supposed to be made out of one of those numbered metals they introduced in dark knights metal. Like 8th metal or whatever it was.
Why not make it canon that it is magical Nth Metal, the same divine substance that holds the Source Wall together. Hawkwoman & Hawkman have wings and mace, this is a full suit of armor made by Hephæstus or Nike goddess of Victory or something.
The Golden Eagle armor is basically indestructible, it exists because Wonder Woman has a lot of weak points in her armor and the Chicken Suit closes those gaps for sword fighters or Cheetah, who’s claws can pierce her skin and can kill her
You see the deal with the armor shape and name is that Zeus's sacred animal was the golden eagle (an smaller species very close to imperial eagle ) also known in pop culture bcs of Assassin's Creed Odyssey and is modern's greek national animal and bird. So the armor is just an golden golden eagle to represent a superhero greek armor bcs the hoplite armor does not look flashy enough to be something special in a comicbook and the ranked officers in the Ancient greek army did not had different gear than the simpler soldier except some individually designed helmets and capes
So basically the story of the armor is it's her other superhero costume it's... What would you get if you cross an Ancient greek armor(which actually did leave the feet bare) with an superhero costume in the image of a golden eagle, in gold in fact to put emphasis to golden ? the answer is this golden golden eagle armor.
Lillie: “If you ask me I would rather have the Golden Lasso or tiara than Golden Armor. What can I say? I love accessories than armor.” *Lillie wear the tiara and has the lasso on her waist* “How do I look?”
It covers more of the body than the standard costume so it's going to have that benefit, but she's also gonna get tired out quicker because it's heavier. So, boring practical reasons.
I completely fail to understand the use for the armor in the movie. They set up the armor as “strong enough to withstand the strength of the world” or whatever (even though Cheetah tears it apart in seconds but whatever) but I don’t understand why Diana needs it.
