I thought I would like the Dove the most, over the years I heard people play them and they sound great! In this comparison I'am with you on the Hummingbird. It has that Keith Richard's Wild Horse's roots tone all the way.I wish you had a Gibson Advanced Jumbo reissue to compare, they sound very good also.
The best guitar I ever played was my wife’s uncle’s first year hummingbird with a bridge about to pull completely off and several loose braces. I’ve never heard or played one like it since but I’m always looking. Has to be one out there. Hopefully he puts it on his will for me otherwise his kids will sell it first thing for a weekend in Vegas
Best video comparison of these guitars. Thank you. 1) Hummingbird, 2) SJ, 3) Dove imo. I'm eyeing either a J45 Banner, 1960 Hummingbird VOS, or Martin D-28 Modern Deluxe for a dread.
@@80sRadDad Both are great. I would whole heartedly recommend the Baggs anthem. I was new to the Baggs HiFi at the time I suggested it. I still like it. But I think the Anthem is exceptional too.
I used to think Gibsons sucked. Picking one up amd expecting it to sound like a Martin. Ive realized the error of my ways. My last 3 guitars have been j45's. GIBSONs are so mellow and beautiful sounding. Every Martin guy needs a J45. Trust Me!
it is different. Standard Bird has a tusq nut and saddle where the this Bird and the hummingbird original have a bone nut and saddle. Ive had both and prefer the original in a Bird ...it is warmer...and I have a standard series in my J45
It's Torrefied spruce. And you better play one before you make that decision/determination. The new torrefied Gibson J45s are absolutely ridiculous! No joke, mine sounds like an actual old guitar. It's sweet, loud, resonant, w sustain for days. It's so much better than my standard j45. Which was my favorite guitar until the first couple strums of the Banner reissue
hummingbird to my ear/tastes-scoopy & boomy, and most like the martin sound, which i prefer. it's funny how we all describe tone differently. i would say the dove is the "woody" sounding one! :) the SJ has a bit of the overtones and complexities i desire, although i agree, it sounds a bit tight and new, and will probably open up beautifully. sounds like the dove would be great for recording and plugging in for a balanced eq, and ability to adjust/effect where necessary. all great instruments though!
Really enjoyed your comments. Thanks. The Hummingbird 1960 Fixed Bridge with Thermal aged Sitka and thin nitro sounded the most mature to me. It was woody in the low notes with really nice texture. Mahogany tends to fill in some of the midrange scoop that the Gibson Dove has. This particular Dove is a very very good specimen. It is resonant and responsive. The SJ needs to warm up in my opinion. It's good, and one day may be great.
@@gair1944 OK, on my hummingbird the 12-53 is quite OK but on my SJ200 it is quite a different deal. I think I will put 11-52 on it next now. I am looking for a Dove and I guess it will behave like the SJ200 since it has the same scale length? Right?
I bought a 1934 Jumbo and I love it. It's so easy to play and the woody tones I get with it makes it a favorite of mine.
They are creating some fantastic modern classics for sure.
They all sound phenomenal. The Hummingbird is my pick. Always has been.
I actually agree! That Hummingbird is sweet!
It's got some thump!
And yes sir. It's definitely got a sweet tone too
Gibson acoustics the last few years have been amazing!! All very sweet guitars.
Thanks for doing this. All amazing sounding guitars but that Hummingbird just seems to have something magical about it ❤
Thanks for listening. I agree about the hummingbird!
Just had a new J-45 and decided to get the hummingbird original, great video!

Hummingbird for the win, but that dove was pretty amazing too.
All are great.
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.
You’re a fine player Gary. I’m leaning heavily on the 1960 Hummingbird for past couple of weeks.
You can’t go wrong with the 1960 hummingbird. It is exceptional. Beautiful guitar that sounds as good as it looks.

Where there's a WILL, there's a relative I always say. LOL

Thanks for watching and for the kind words. Those are all great choices on your list
WOW the Hummingbird 🤩
Sensational guitar
What pick up would you put that hummingbird?
LR Baggs HiFi
@@gair1944why not the Anthem?

There is a reason a J45 is perhaps the most recorded guitar. So iconic and organic
What string brand is on those beautiful guitars, my friend??
What pick-up is in the hummingbird? I just bought that one, if it's the 60s fixed bridge.
Is that Hummingbird different than the standard. Think I prefer the Hummingbird Standard, although that one sounds nice too.

Lol. And if we played them in person, we would think totally different. Some of the best sounding acoustics record like garbage 😂
by light gauge strings you mean? 11-52?
No. I mean .012-.053. That is light gauge according to Daddario

I am thinking about how "hard" it feels on your fingers.
@@Tumbling_Dice I just play through the challenge that heavier strings present because they sound so much richer and better to me than thin strings.
😎
I can't choose, I will just get both.
honestly.. there is nothing like a Gibby!!!
✌
A lilttle more articulation is the dove.
