Nice review Dan👍 I have the original Zebra Pot that was imported and modified with locking bail handle, works great but the lid is a little fiddly with the bail handle. This one looks great as well and the locking lid and steaming pan is a plus. Waiting to see you put it to use in a video soon cooking some delicious culinary creation. Take care mate.

Hey Terry. I've the modified bail clips too.
Do you know the clips have two positions?
In normal flopping up and down, when one lifts bail to straight up they hold the bail up, which does make the lid "fiddly" to remove, or have to lower the bail for ease.
~ The clips as other position: With bail straight up, the clips can be forced outward to clip/clamp onto the bail firmly. Which makes it easier to place the lid on and off with clips off to the sides.
Ha, either way/brand I'll probably forget my leather gloves. But will have my old Leatherman and bamboo spatula for assist.
~~ Well...I had to mention justin case.

@@brianbartulis9709 Hi Brian, thanks. My pot is from Firebox Stove and came with the spring steel handle clips already installed. I figured out how to use and it works as intended, and yes gloves and a lid lift is mandatory.. Cheers.

yeah, if a clip modded Zebra pot had an assist ring on outside it would be perfect.
As said Bomb proof....near a work of art ta boot. (-:
Before I think of any close to doubles, I'll have to practice making rice for two in my 14cm Zebra. (1.8 liter)
As below, I've figured the steaming for fish/shrimp/veggies in it.
...and have a 750ml Toaks pot with bail too.
1.2 liter would be splitting hairs for a pot which holds the bail at 45°, for me.

Nice pot! Not lightweight as you say, so not one to take on a long hike maybe, but looks totally ideal for a social camp with a fire and prepping a meal for two etc. The handles are the best, I'm fed up with the ones that just drop down all the time. What's the real use/benefit of the locking lid? Good review, cheers, Warren :)

    • @CampLifeBushcraft
      @CampLifeBushcraft  Год назад +2

The locking lid is more for transporting, so your stuff stored inside doesn’t fall out. Which is why the zebra pot has plastic ones, but they’re a pain to put on and off all the time.. I lost mine years ago!
But being able to lock it while it’s hanging over the fire is a big bonus in case it falls off its hanger.

What size Zebra did you get Billy?
I got the 14cm and a 5" folding steamer fits in it, opens inside just enough for use of course.
Put a decent sized cookie cutter beneath the steamer and can get a li'l bit more room for water below the basket. ~ It worked great with 5" Firebox and Trangia burner.
~ I've not tried steaming fish, but surely it would work.
Some drilled holes in their Zebra bowl. Now I don't have to...being it's such a sweet SS bowl.

I just drilled holes in the Zebra, got the metal lock and have a small grill that fits perfectly inside if I want to cook sideways for baking or smoking a piece of meat. I got the bigger size and have had it for a long time, this in my opinion is too small for the sideways cooking or even just boiling water, 1.2 liter but that’s to the very top which you can’t do that making it much smaller. Granted I don’t backpack, I car/tent thus weight is not an issue but space can be because my dogs take the whole back seat.
