Don't underestimate this bike off road, it's dual purpose is exactly what it was designed for. I've been traversing the UK Tet as a novice and have yet to come unstuck on this beast. Rocky inclines that appear impossible is where the DCT and traction control work best for me 👍

another great real world review I would like to see you do a review of a crosstourer and a xtz1200 . you have sold me on the dct I already wanted an Africa twin maybe the crosstourer will win over the xtz 1200 because of that alone even though the only one I seen was wine and I don't think it done it justice a black dct it may well be ? then I can kinda retire my left hand and leg and just sit back and chill out in a few years if I decide to replace my Varadero 1000 fi . you mentioned a sheepskin I highly recommend them makes it possible to ride in denim jeans in sweltering heat and no monkey butt add's a but of cushion too and blows people's minds LOL apparently you can buy motorcycle specific boxer shorts called moto skives that add some comfort but cost I think $50 the long haul adventure riders swear by them . a tony archer saddle ( England ) would probably sort out the Africa twin or maybe corbin (usa ) the butt is the only thing that makes me stop I find moving around helps I tend to ride with my knees hanging out probably a habbit developed from years on smaller bikes ? to give my butt a break I tuck my knee's it helps a lot also moving forward and back on the saddle can relive the pressure I think its an age thing like yourself I feel I would like to lose a bit of weight as I cant afford a whole new set of clothes LOL I have started already just by eating a bit less going to take up walking and cycling for the winter to try and help prevent me losing my mind when the road salt comes out the bikes stay in acf50 helps prevent corrosion too for winter storage in a damp climate . I would prefer to take a break than have my bike wrecked by road salt anyway .

@@setter3329 the Africa twin is a different type of beast altogether than the XT 660. It's heavier , quicker obviously but it's not quick quick. It has some fancy electronics too . Is it a better bike for your trip ? Not really. The XT is uncomplicated . The engine has been around in one form or another for years. I've had 4 of them that's how much I liked them . In Ireland you can pick a decent one up for 5 or 6 grand so you will have more time on your trip away than if you fork out 10 or 11 for an early model AT. For your trip you will need an air hawk seat or a wool cover as there is little room to move around on the stock seat . Off the road make an aftermarket one which is flat and looks the part. Don't know how effective. I'd a wool cover and it was great .Check out Motorcycle adventures on RUclips , Pavlin has nearly 200k on his a his has been through the wars . He will be selling only to get the 700 so they are built like a tank. You won't be disappointed with a Tenere. If it has aftermarket exhausts it'll sound great in the tunnels heading through Austria too 👍
