My assumption about why it's a relay system was always that carrying Baby Mario would tire out the Yoshi, so to minimize time spent resting, they would take turns. Hey, at least it's an ATTEMPT at justifying it.
I think the idea is that Kamek and the toadies are after Baby Mario specifically, so while one Yoshi carries Mario through the level while avoiding cKamek, the others can just run on ahead without being stopped or bothered by anything, essentially going in unnoticed
@@solarixstar And because the first Yoshi can go on from there undetected and loop around to an average distance passing the last one saying "Hey, this may be a bit rougher, but just past this point where you are...if you go there, I can go around that way and meet up where those points meet. Thus, they run into each other. And if Kamek's forces don't find Mario on them, well, they are the natural inhabitants and toadies are weak as fuck. They will let them pass.
Trivia time! So the "Super Mario World 2" part of the title was added by Nintendo of America in order to boost sales. This is why later games dropped it, and is also likely why Yoshi's his own franchise in Smash Bros. Despite this, many elements of Yoshi's Island ended up appearing in later Mario games, such as Kamek and the Toadies (worth noting though that Magikoopas are called Kameks in Japanese, so that's why the localizations tend to mess up terms.)
@@rarm5899 but you have to realize that what you would call "Koopa" is Bowser's Japanese name, while the Koopa Troops are literally called "Turtles" in Japan as well. Which would also make "Kamek" a valid species name for what we call the MagiKoopas, as it's name derives from "Kame" (Turtle) and "Magic/Majikku", thus "Kamek/Kamekku". Which is then why we have instances of regular MagiKoopa's accidentally called Kamek when localised in english.
But it is called Super Mario: Yoshi's Island in Japan, so it was always closely tied to the Mario games (it shares much of its dev team with SMW's and SM64's). It later became Super Mario Advance 3, so it's not like they've been trying very hard to establish it as a separate franchise.
This is my first StephenPlays LP, but I was introduced to you via TRG Colosseum. This game was a huge part of my childhood and was my grandmother's favorite game. I'm looking forward to watching you and Mal play through this game!
Every time That Song™ came on the back part of my brain absolutely thought Stephen was gonna start singing, haha. This game is so gosh darn adorable though. I have a huge soft spot for the Yoshi series.
I always thought it as the reason why some Yoshies can run ahead and be fine is because they don't have Mario with them so Kamek and the toadies have no reason to go bother the ones that don't have Mario with them.
Yay Yoshi! Also love that this soundtrack has received so much love from the extended TRG team. Between Jerod's and Stephen's alerts and Jules' cover of the Yoshi theme I was really enjoying it. 😊🐸
So I never saw this live. Just now watching it. Upon hearing the clear level tune, I immediately thought, "Did Stephen not pause alerts and someone donated 5000 bits to hear him sing?" God. Breakfast Stream has me spoiled...
28:06-29:26 And now we get to compare Mal's first time with that boulder with Stephen's attempt. Stephen laughed so hard he started crying last time, I think Mal is feeling quite validated now lol. ruclips.net/video/6KFO0Op-jkk/видео.html
I've been waiting for these. I played through Yoshi's Island so many times as a kid but only just recently did my first 100% run. One of the best games on SNES period and my personal favorite game on the system. Looks, sounds and plays amazing to this day.
I'm going to be very unaccustomed to not seeing Jon's tradition of "take an egg, leave an egg" at every level end, but I think I'm going to love this series!
I've only ever played the GBA port of this game, and I love this game. Some sounds are a little different on this version though, notably the sound Yoshi makes when he sticks out his tongue, aims an egg, does the flutter jump, or picks up a star. The piranha plant-like enemies also make different-sounding chomp noises and make a slightly different sound when they shrivel and die. It seems really weird to me, almost like it's simultaneously a new game and also a nostalgic old game.
Yayyy one of my favorite childhood games!! Along with Pokemon Snap, this was probably the game I sunk the most hours into by far around elementary school
I'm not used to this game, also being a Mega Drive kid, so this is all new to me too. I recognise the end of stage tune, its the song Stephen used to have to sing until recently!
As a fellow Mega Drive kid, when I did experience the other side I felt this game deserves way more praise than Super Mario World considering its music and art direction.
WOW!! Even as a baby, Luigi can't catch a break. XD The hole that the Shy Guys kept popping out of made me think of Chulip when you went inside. Shy Guy: Underground Residence. He spends his days making copies of himself and sending them up to the surface. Loves cleaning restrooms.
31:09 'I don't think that I can do it! Mister Gameboy, he made sure! Making sure that I read these, when I was done, had to read more! In the middle of 100, guess what? I've lost my place! Now I've got to scroll back up! Do you see this grin on my face?'
Gonna start this LP, I love Yoshi's Island and its gonna be really fun seeing you guys play this!! I'm really looking forward to the brutal levels later on xD
I always thought the other Yoshis could quickly get ahead because they didn't have the extra weight of Baby Mario and didn't have to look out to protect him.
Yoshi's Island GBA was the first game I actually finished 100% as a kid. The music is so fantastic in this game, I think that's the only way I stayed sane as trying to finish those extra levels they included in the GBA version was friggin maddening. PS: I stay up nights thinking about how Yoshi needs to murder Shy Guys so he can turn poop them out as eggs and shoot them at coins to feed his crippling gambling addiction.
Y'know, my only experience with this game is Proton Jon's LP. And he's very knowledgable and technically savvy, and he'll bring up things like trick-shotting eggs to get stars at the last second. And then I see this and I'm just like "Well...this'll be a different sort of fun, I suppose."
I don't see anyone else doing GPA's, so I'm doing it now. Not going to expect a full 100 for any level unless you go back. Some early can be a real pain to 100 as late ones are. This can also be a Mal makes art pictures.😃😎
another question, couldn't Kamek also use the tracking sensors in baby luigis brain to find Mario? kinda like find friends on iPhone but for, ya know, babies?
You shouldn't be asking why Yoshi's run ahead to catch Mario, but how can Mario fall from so high up and survived. Plus, how can the Yoshi survived after Mario dropped from the sky on his head. Face it, the game was over before it started.
Man, Breakfast stream has ruined that end jingle for me xD I kept hearing it on Jon's stream last night too and was disappointed that no singing accompanied it

"Yoshi can't read."
Are you saying the Tax Fraud incident was all because he couldn't read? He didn't know what all of those words and numbers meant?
jumpitydude ... Well .. YES
A terrible shame; poor lil’ Yoshi was put away for a translation error....
I'm imagining a translator fixing the papers and all it reads is nothing but 2-3 pages of the name "Yoshi" and then followed by a few numbers
Yoshi muchasaur koopa is my name,
and here's how I beat the IRS at their own game
What would Yoshi's income tax be anyway? 10% of the cantaloupe he's having for lunch later? The fraud was that he ate it all early.
My assumption about why it's a relay system was always that carrying Baby Mario would tire out the Yoshi, so to minimize time spent resting, they would take turns.

...my god you nailed it; THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE.
(This is not sarcasm, you have actually answered a childhood-long question of mine)
@@solarixstar And because the first Yoshi can go on from there undetected and loop around to an average distance passing the last one saying "Hey, this may be a bit rougher, but just past this point where you are...if you go there, I can go around that way and meet up where those points meet. I love the outro screen so much XD
Every time you finish a level, im expecting a song, but alas it never comes
Ikr? My mind is now conditioned to it 🤣

Stats this episode.
Points:
Mal - 182
Stephen - 95
Deaths:
Stephen - 1
Mal - 0
Thank god I don't have to do some more counting
Thanks for this, I always love these stats. It would be cool to see 'average score' too, or a count of levels completed.
I always thought it as the reason why some Yoshies can run ahead and be fine is because they don't have Mario with them so Kamek and the toadies have no reason to go bother the ones that don't have Mario with them.
I like that Stephen had the same troubles with that rock as Mal did way back when they covered the SNES Mini stuff.
I like how they are trying to have a conversation and have Stephen read the intro at the same time
Yay Yoshi! Also love that this soundtrack has received so much love from the extended TRG team. Between Jerod's and Stephen's alerts and Jules' cover of the Yoshi theme I was really enjoying it. 😊🐸
Dude I remember playing the Gameboy Advanced version and I honestly enjoyed this game. Glad to see that Mal and Stephen are finally playing this.
So I never saw this live. Just now watching it. Upon hearing the clear level tune, I immediately thought, "Did Stephen not pause alerts and someone donated 5000 bits to hear him sing?"
God. Breakfast Stream has me spoiled...
Yay! A cute and lively game is a perfect antidote for everything right now. Hilarity is going to ensure, I can already tell!

I really like how helpful the platforms are in this game. They are certainly worthy of trust.

I’d love to see a children’s book of yoshis island,
So would I. I know my nephew would love it. :)
Oh my god I absolutely love how you used the old commercial for the end card!
I can't wait to see these. I got part way through and then got so frustrated lol. I've never been good at yoshi games.

Good choice for an LP.
Mario crying gives me PTSD when I played when I had the game I played with the volume off

Gonna start this LP, I love Yoshi's Island and its gonna be really fun seeing you guys play this!! I'm really looking forward to the brutal levels later on xD
24:03 somewhere, Chaz got a cold chill down his spine.
This lp is gonna be even more fun than I thought if Stephen struggling with the chomp block is any indication 😂
That outro though... I love it (both music and visuals)
Excited for the entire LP
I love this game! I have the SNES on my Nintendo Switch Lite so I may play along with you!
I just want a clip of that glorious screech! 😂
I always thought the other Yoshis could quickly get ahead because they didn't have the extra weight of Baby Mario and didn't have to look out to protect him.
One of the greatest games ever made.
"These guys want to.. PAHAHA!!!" Classic Stephen..
Well then. It’s yoshi time!
We’re going to have a hilarious adventure throwing eggs at baddies.
I love this game I've beat it multiple times. This game looks better than some of the ds and 3ds games
Yoshi's Island GBA was the first game I actually finished 100% as a kid. The music is so fantastic in this game, I think that's the only way I stayed sane as trying to finish those extra levels they included in the GBA version was friggin maddening.

now they are also doing a more classic. They are slowly climbing through them all
and now we will see thier shock when things dont go thier way
really wanted a play through of this game ~
Y'know, my only experience with this game is Proton Jon's LP. And he's very knowledgable and technically savvy, and he'll bring up things like trick-shotting eggs to get stars at the last second. And then I see this and I'm just like "Well...this'll be a different sort of fun, I suppose."
27:18-27:40 for memorable moments!
You both forgot to mention the fact that Yoshi's Island just so happens to be the North Pole of the Mario World.
YES!!! I love this game!
Oh young grandpa, if only you knew the future and learned your gonna hate hotdogs soon
17:59 Mal with an f bomb?
She said “fine, let's go this way"
I don't see anyone else doing GPA's, so I'm doing it now.

Memorable moment 28:07-29:25
“The BEST Yoshi’s Island Player Part 2”
I literally busted out laughing just like Stephen did right at the same time! ROFL!
I love the plaid Stephen
4:12 Anyone who has played Paper Mario recognizes this song and gets nostalgia for that game, too.
15:30-15:45 if this part doesn't become a Memorable Moment... I'll cry.
That end card is beautiful
“It doesn’t make sense” Stephen this game doesn’t make sense but it is amazing in its non-sense which is fantastic 😊
15:37-15:45 was hilarious haha
1:26 And then Luigi drowned. The end.
2:41 As opposed to all those good Magikoopas
yoshi's island, huh?
glass beach band
10:42 All hail the Flesh Lord!
This will be (not at all that) important later - but check back on the title screen as you progress. Yay dynamic things!
What is with that outro, Stephen? Is that the actual commercial for Yoshi's Island? XD
i’m realizing how much of this looks familiar because of super princess peach... huh
Not going to expect a full 100 for any level unless you go back. Some early can be a real pain to 100 as late ones are. This can also be a Mal makes art pictures.😃😎
Memorable moment at 15:31-15:44.
15:23 - 15:59 Memorable Moment
Are you thinking about doing the special levels?
Just got an advert from that love guru but it was about hair shaving...
another question, couldn't Kamek also use the tracking sensors in baby luigis brain to find Mario? kinda like find friends on iPhone but for, ya know, babies?
Oh yeah yoshi didn't pay child support
You shouldn't be asking why Yoshi's run ahead to catch Mario, but how can Mario fall from so high up and survived. Plus, how can the Yoshi survived after Mario dropped from the sky on his head. Face it, the game was over before it started.
2D Mario games don't usually have fall damage, do they? So a long fall should be no problem.
Eat the shy guys, shoot the eggs.
Man, Breakfast stream has ruined that end jingle for me xD
I kept hearing it on Jon's stream last night too and was disappointed that no singing accompanied it
28:14-29:23
Memorable Moment
Stephen does the same thing Mal did in this memorable moment
ruclips.net/video/6KFO0Op-jkk/видео.html
...what does Kamek even want with these children to begin with?
what was the outro...
Right though...weird
What even was that video during the outro?
You should play Yoshi’s Woolly World
What was that end screen lol??
Nintendo Presents Nintendo
There was no song at 14:00...
No chat? That's an interesting change.
They don't tend to show the chat on live streams that are designed to be released as LPs. It was the same with Link's Awakening and Arise: A Simple Story.
Watch out for flying condoms
Did Stephen ever do a song after beating a level?
Never after beating a level from what I remember, but I think in the next episode mal does a mini song
Can we talk about how weird the stork is looking back on this as an adult. Seriously, why didn't their parents just get off their lazy asses and pick Mario and Luigi up?
What do you mean? Everyone "knows" that storks deliver babies to their parents.
Why is the chat gone?
Because it's edited for the release on RUclips. That's also why they also doesn't include all the in-between episodes parts of the streams.
o yes
Nice
Did decide to remove the chat? Will it be our for all live lps?
We plan to remove chat and alerts for live LPs when they're posted here on RUclips. The Twitch versions (with chat in-tact) will continue to be available, though. This allows the audience to choose their own experience 👍
nintendo presents nintendo sounds like a wired knock off company of nintendo or a badly done video game
You do realize your videos are bombarbed with political ads? Just an FYI ;)
