To have such a clarity of vision and such tenderness in your photographs at any age would be the greatest gift. To produce this work in your ninth decade is astonishing. Truly Kertesz was a giant amongst photographers. The biggest compliment I have had on my MA course is whena tutor said a photo reminded her of Kertesz. I'm sure, in fact I know, that my work paled in comparison to his but what a thrill to have that miniscule moment of connection with the great man.
The episode of the BBC documentary series is here: • Andre Kertesz BBC Mast... and if you are going to lose a few hours of your life to RUclips I can recommend the others in the series too.
If you liked this content and would like to support further episodes you can buy me a coffee, or even a book. Or perhaps writing lessons? Thanks :) (Especially if there's a book you want me to feature.)

He published another book called “on readings” which is great also.
Thanks, I will check it out :)
thanks for introducing us to this little treasure
You're welcome, it remains one of my favourites :)
This brings to mind a Jean-Michel Jarre album of which only one copy was made. The inner gatefold had prints of several polaroids showing the process of making the album with a space left for one of the person who won the album at auction.
There is a certain something about unique objects such as Polaroids and the album you mention. I once saw an art history documentary which examined this in relation to well-known paintings. It looked at how we may react differently to the Mona Lisa in person as opposed to in print or other visual media. An interesting thought in the age of digital reproduction of everything.
Everyone talks about Bresson, but give me Kertesz anyday
For the longest time this book has had my heart :) ❤️
@@RobinsBookClub yes they are amazing Polaroids. I guess that camera could focus pretty close, it seems.
Kertesz book called “ From My Window” is the first book published of Polaroids. He set what that book was about. It is a beautiful small book. Quietly understated in my opinion. It show the masterful ability of the artist express his loss in image sing in mournful loss and beauty. It is a complete idea visually expressed.
I'll keep an eye out for it :)
very inspiring
My coffee maker just caught fire in my hand, but this book saved my morning :)
David what's the full story here? Are you OK?!
@@RobinsBookClub Long story short, I was making the daily espresso and, I am not really sure why, a fire decided to appear on my coffee maker while I was pouring the coffee in my cup. But yes, I am perfectly fine. Wish I could say the same about my walls.
@@davidpetras7483 oh my goodness! Sorry about your walls!
Just mind boggling what he could do in his own apartment
What Polaroid film were these shot in?
From memory they were taken on a Polaroid SX70, so the Polaroid film for that. Nowadays there seems to be a "Polaroid SX70" film but I'm not sure if that was what it was called 40 years ago.
