This ignores that there are historical tensions between Advaita and Vishishtadvaita, as well as other schools of thought. They do in fact accuse each other of heresy from their respective presuppositions. History shows no such innocence. However, we can agree and appreciate that this Swami is rather enlightened in his recognition of what is central and perennial. And yet this Swami also makes metaphysical claims that scholars can politely debate and disagree about, but yet less cultivated fundamentalists advance dogmatically. It's easier to see the creme de la creme of another tradition because that is what's imported to the West.

Swami Sarvapriyananda ji is indeed a skilful speaker and one of the finest I've ever heard in the entire RK mission. And I love him, his lectures on Vedanta, and the work he's doing as part of the Vedanta society of NY and the RK Mission. Rather than him personally or individually, it'is the Mission's general imbalanced approach to the topic which grates a little bit on me, and apparently a few others like me here. Besides, I make a clear distinction between Christ and Churchianity. And the bridge you speak of....well for an entire century, we have been building this bridge and the other side seems to have no interest in it. Many Christians in the west don't even know of Sanatana Dharma, or Hinduism as it's known here. But yes, lots of respect and love to Swami Sarvapriyananda and his work. ❤️❤️.
It's great to see the connections between Evagrius Ponticus and dharma being explored; too often you may see videos about Meister Eckhart at most, forgetting there is a whole library of Eastern Orthodox thinkers who have explored similar issues. Once Christopher Wallis gave a nondual, tantric reading of The gospel of Thomas. We need more such investigations. In a world riven by divisiion, we need to focus on what unites us.
Unfortunately, we Hindus say all is one and accept everything as divine. But western civilisation is hell bent on conversions and trying to fund Christian conversions by stating Hindu gods as pagan. You must visit India to understand the lack of respect and the kind of obscene language pastors use in reference to Hindu gods.

Pranam Swamiji! Thats all fine what you said but as long as there is no object of meditation i.e. an experienced, how can there be the split of an experiencer i.e. devotee and devoted? How can one pray to one who has no form or who is in no way relatable where an interaction is possible? If such be the case then the dissolution of the triplet is the only way and any devotion done to such an entity which is personal and yet not relatable in any manner is unscientific and impossible. Only an understanding of Vedanta can give one an understanding of how to proceed and such emotional act of surrendering to a personal and yet formless God makes no sense. The act of prayer instantly presupposes an entity prayed to, and if the one prayed to is formless, then who is praying to whom and what for? If one prays he inevitably creates or fancies an entity apart from himself i.e. the prayed and so He is not formless anymore and he himself drops down to the level of form but as his object of meditation is formless, so he constantly struggles to suppress his mind mechanically and is stucj between form and formless. Even if he succeeds, when the intensity of mental suppression comes down all the impure elements of the mind get re-awakened and he falls down eventually. But the yogic meditation on formless Ishvara is the constant act of recollecting one's absolute oneness with Him and so there is no split between himself and the Other as he contemplates on non-difference all the time. Thus, it is not prayer. Whereas in prayer, one wants something from God even if it is to be one with Him. That very want prevents him to attain oneness. Thus, it is impossible to attain to oneness with Divinity through prayer and attain liberation, though temporary peaceful states may be attained which is often mistaken as liberation, but is not. Meditation which includes japa is the only way and there is no other way where there is absolute oneness and liberation from samsara.
Further if God is formless and beyond thought and perception as you say Evagrius said, then why think or pray to such a God or desire to see such a God because such thought or prayer would bring God down to the realm of thought and perception and also prevent himself from entering the formlesss realm of God as well. All of this is because of that split between himself and God. This is unscientific and untenable. This problem was well understood by Rishis of India who thus propounded the non-dual principal of Self which is free from all such anomalies and inconsistencies. Right view is most vital without which one can never attain to the ultimate end is what I feel.
Regarding the 36m mark, on using prayer to ask of God (our true inner-selves?) not for worldly matters, but instead for the infinite.. The trouble is, what if you desire the non-infinite? i.e. the idea that you will live in eternity, seems like an awful proposition.. sure perhaps a few trillion years, but to exist forever without end is something I would pray against!
Only through advaita Vedanta and the personal example of Sri Ramana Maharshi can I understand my birth religion of Christianity.🕊️🕉️✝️

Thus, it is impossible to attain to oneness with Divinity through prayer and attain liberation, though temporary peaceful states may be attained which is often mistaken as liberation, but is not. Meditation which includes japa is the only way and there is no other way where there is absolute oneness and liberation from samsara.
Further if God is formless and beyond thought and perception as you say Evagrius said, then why think or pray to such a God or desire to see such a God because such thought or prayer would bring God down to the realm of thought and perception and also prevent himself from entering the formlesss realm of God as well. All of this is because of that split between himself and God. This is unscientific and untenable. This problem was well understood by Rishis of India who thus propounded the non-dual principal of Self which is free from all such anomalies and inconsistencies. Right view is most vital without which one can never attain to the ultimate end is what I feel.

Regarding the 36m mark, on using prayer to ask of God (our true inner-selves?) not for worldly matters, but instead for the infinite..
The trouble is, what if you desire the non-infinite? i.e. the idea that you will live in eternity, seems like an awful proposition.. sure perhaps a few trillion years, but to exist forever without end is something I would pray against!
