me too man, I watched so many of these videos and I even downloaded his foam f22 plans back in like 2012 as a 12 year old and built it, but I never got around to buying the electronics for it since I couldn’t afford them so it’s been sitting in my room to this day

You guys make a great team with this hobby. I like the fact that you don't sugar coat your reviews - that is definately a plus! That having been said, could you do a review on the big cessna foamy that includes the floats in the package? You have a small lake next to you now (really cool!). I would like to get a couple of these for my son and I to fly when we go on our fishing/camping trips this summer.

Yes, it is a great plane indeed. I have an Easy Star, and I made the ailerons myself, as well as a removable landing gear. I didn't shorten the wings yet, I was having some fun with an on board camera so I needed the lift. I also changed the standard motor for an in-runner. I had to reinforce the plane with small carbon rods in order to improve the strength and handling at higher speeds. This sky hawk is an improved version form the Easy Star. It is even fun to fly for an experienced person. 5*

I rememeber this time back around 1982. I took my dad out to watch me attempt to fly my sig Kadet with an enya 40 engine. As I flew over unoccupied territory it was evident that the vehicle was tail heavy and had started porposing. So he starts yelling at me in panic mode. No one or property was in danger but it's difficult to focus with distractions. :-) He and I got a few things straightend out between us that day. :-)

This is a great plane for beginners! Banana Hobbies has the same thing, but called a Sky Surfer. If you have the option, get it with the outrunner & LiPo power as I've seen it both ways.
My student bought the Plug-N-Play version and we've flown it 40 times already! GREAT performance for both training AND moderate aerobatics.

Bought it, flew right out of the box. Plenty of power from stock motor and battery. No instructions on gluing wing together before insertion...slid in seemed tight but on a wondy day it wiggled somewhat loose so I added a little velcro to each half so now it wont slip! Thanks for the recommendation Dave! Not afraid to fly this with loss of winter stick time.

I have this plane with the DX6i and I love it. I have changed the motor to a esky400 inrunner brushless (fits perfectly in the stock motor mount) 6x5 prop and a 50 A ESC. chanel mixing for flaperons and it floats for ever
fly mostly at 40% throtle. still wicked fast
It will be my platform for a FPV camera, which I expect to be delivered this week

    Great vid Dave and Val
This is a great plane. I bought it as my 2nd plane (after I crashed my wild hawk into oblivion)
It flys great. loops, rolls, split-S,
Just get rid of the stock Tx/Rx and get a good set. My stock set gliched on me and gave me 2 hours of work rebuilding it.
I also hot glued the 'tight, tight, loose' connectors because mine kept coming loose. I also lost my battery hatch/canopy, so I made one out of a 2 litre pop bottle

  • @airplanefreaks

Yesterday, I was flying mine and it was super windy and the wings were bending a lot. It was pretty cool. Afew days before, I crashed it into a tree and when it fell out, the motor pod came loose. I glued it with the glue that came with the kit and thought it stayed. In the strong wind, it blew the case right out, and the prop broke, slicing through the wings and the fuesulage.

@thefedexpope the main difference is Alerons. The Hawk Sky has both alerons and rudder, while the wild hawk only has a rudder. Wild hawk also runs a brushed motor on NiMh batteries, while the Hawk Sky uses brushless and LiPo.

@DRiguana72 the Hawksky and the Hawkfighter both have ailerons AND rudder control. The Hawkfighter is way faster and more nimble, but still good for a beginner- almost better for a beginner than the original Hawksky, because it responds quickly - so you'll actually MISS the tree instead of ALMOST missing it!

I agree that the Easy Star was good in it's time but has not kept up the changing times. The Easy Star does seem to be a bit more durable. If new flier Easy Star survives the learning stage, nearly all the guys move on and install brushless motors and put on ailerons.

All you gotta do is take it slow, don't try and show off because they are the reasons most rc planes crash. If you get it do short straight flights and land straight ahead. Just make sure you throw straight and not upward. And try small turns to the left and right and once you feel confident enough gain more altitude and do full turns.

A quick look at wikipedia or any other source will suggest just the opposite - the vast majority wifi is done in the 2.4Ghz range, so by moving to it one would expect MORE interference than with the traditional 72Mhz range. There are way more variables in play than just the band, though. The technology in a 2.4Ghz radio is much more advanced and has significant advantages over similar 72Mhz radios, thus the significant push towards the higher band.

i find that flying wings tend to be better beginner planes than easystar/hawk sky/wild hawk/bixler style planes. they are more durable (basically just one piece, i have smacked mine straight into the ground at 40mph with almost no damage), still have the pusher motor that you say makes these excellent, and are more fun once you learn to fly, where as these get boring quite quickly.

  • @motoballz

@MSFSX94 You can always cut controll surfaces you know. Which is a good thing seeing as how you can make them as big as you want! You'll def want ailerons and rudder.. Seriously! Nothing helps battle the wind better than rudder. Useing the rudder with ailerons makes for snappy response and just helps so much, And in some cases using rudder and ailerons against eachother :)

@tadflip This is true. Go to hobbyking and look up the Bixler. It's a lot cheaper (about half the price at least if not cheaper) for the Bixler and shipping is also a lot cheaper!!!! The fuse is also a bit bigger in the front so you can put more stuff into it if your in to FPV flying.

I've flown both. They fly very much the same, good for beginners. When ordering either the Hawk Sky or Sky Surfer be sure to get the brushless motor version. The Hawk Sky is a 4 channel and according to Pete of Banana Hobbies the latest Sky Surfer was 3 channel, but easily converted to 4 channels. I had a early version of the Hawk Sky, modified and installed a brushless motor in the front. If you watch some of Nitro Planes videos, I'm flying it in the background.

I would recommend gluing the landing gear holder down securely because it comes off very easily. also reinforce the nose alot it smushes up after 1 crash and reinforce the tail with a carbon spar it has broken 3 times for me. LAST THING DO NOT OVER CHARGE YOUR BATTERY 4 HOURS IS ENOUGH if you charge your battery overnight the cells will charge unevenly and your cells will implode, destroying it... The battery is unreplaceable and do not but and use a higher voltage battery this will overheat and

I am wondering how would this plane fly if you add longer wings to it. It would probably require to buy another spare set of wings, than cut the one wing tips, and attach the other one with the root removed. It may be a super nice glider, although with that stock motor, wind would probably carry toss it around quite a bit. Longer flight may be possible that way. I know I can fly 1 hour on 2200mah battery my electric Radian glider.

@TheMegaacidRain If you want to put a camera on it, buy a small camera. There are many websites that sell very small "spy" cameras. Find one you like and attach it to the plane. I use a spy pen, I use the top half, which is the camera part, I stand it up in the battery compartment (the cover has to stay off). I then use electrical tape to hold it in place....it makes the plane slightly nose heavy, but it still flies well.
