@@JorgeGarcia-zm4hs id say go either way, both work good and keep all the same line of tools so your batteries can fit all your tools. But if you're asking for the best of the two; Makita is the answer.
I've used these for about two years now. I absolutely love them. Love the fact that I only need one battery platform for all my tools. Genius on Makita for not making us buy different batteries for all their tools.
I honestly as a drywall & painter love my sub compact set, going on like 2 years use almost every day. I know I'm not supposed to but I usually just grab my sub drill to mix full buckets of mud instead of grabbing the chord, you just gotta start it out on 1 then you can go to 2. The impact shut down on me 1 time so far while screwing into some 1950 ceiling joists, it couldn't handle 3" wood screws, cooled down & came right back to life just can't handle that but that's the only job I've seen it overliad on so far. Makita feels the best to me for the price point, I have no reason to even try anything else
I bought the kit with the Recipcrocating Saw for $150 from the clearance section at the only HD in Wyoming. Perfect balance between weight and size and for the $150 price point, I stand by them. I can also understand why the market determined the original pricing of $299 was a bit high. My 6 year old can hold the drill which I can't say for the m12 or the m18 platform. The upside is that they are brushless so that certainly helps the longevity of the product.
If i see this deal pop up again Id buy it instantly... it seams like the kit with recip saw might be discontinued tho... I see it selling for $158 on amazon with just drill and driver no extra tool :((
Summer of 88 I worked construction part time. Contractors were using Makita cordless drills. Makita impressed me as a young adult. Looks like I’m going brushless with this set.
The ergonomics on the impact driver/wrench and drill are the best I've ever used. As for the plastic chuck, it's still durable enough for what I expect to use it for. These are fantastic tools!
Been deciding on which brand to go with for a long time now and today I made the makita choice with the subcompact 18 volt on the plus side as well 70 bucks extra I got a radio and an extra battery. Thanks for the advice!
Don’t ever apologize for speaking our language. It is a great tool, and a lot of power. I hope you saw a great use out of it. You were always welcome to join in here.

I really didn’t want to give that one up in someone accusing me of cruelty to dragon flys but once again you’ve taught me that a good blade is the way to go. You the man Vince!!!
Me, too! I picked up two sets with the driver/impact/recip for $150 each right before Christmas. Kept one for myself and gave the other to my father-in-law. They ended up being my grab and go set I keep on the workbench at home.

The CXT Brushless are smaller than the LXT sub-compact. When I was upgrading my Bosch 12v stuff to EC brushless I contemplated getting the CXT, but to get the 2 tool combo in a Makpac would have meant paying a premium in kiwi dollars and then paying importing it to the United States...

I bought the kit to start a new job and it's been indestructible. I have dropped the impact from over 8 feet high countless times and it just keeps on going. The previous employer supplied us hilti rentals, and after a year the hilti impact broke numerous times. The only issue is that the impact is way slower than a higher end one, and it's time to upgrade so I can keep up at installs.
I’ve had this kit for several years, it’s funny that you think the zipper looks weak and the shoulder strap seems strong. My experience has been the exact opposite. Had to replace the strap connectors since they both broke...luckily I bought this for the tools and not the bag. The tools are still 100% years in.
Just grabbed Makita’s sub-compact drill today to put in 30+ blinds. I’m glad I didn’t have to use my monster hammer drill to pilot drill 1/16 holes all morning.
I'd really love to see what you have to say about the Ridgid 12volt tools. I really want your opinion. I'm thinking of switching to Milwaukee but I'm about to check out the ridgid 12volt stuff so hopefully I don't have to switch.
I like the makita compact drill. Lightest weight drill I know of, made a huge difference in why I used one for work. Its under 3-lbs.... Used it on pour cement, no hammer drill drill function, 3-batteries later I was thru. Trick is to use low RPM, or that would be like 6+ batteries.
I may have an older bag considering mines the “blue” Makita color, but the strap hooks on the bag are not great. I carry a lot more than the kit in it (bits, drivers, small square, bunch of other drill related accessories) but after about a month of picking it up and throwing it over my shoulder, the hooks bent open since they’re not solid and the strap slid off constantly. I welded it closed but some duct tape would probably do. Not a huge deal but thought I’d toss that out there
There is now a charger which is compatible to both systems, the 18 V LXT and the 12 V system. It's called DC 18 RE, there are slots for both batteries on the charger. The DC 18 RC is a pure 18 V charger, and cannot charge 12 V. But these chargers are awesome, they have a very high charging current and they were the first with air cooling. They are robust, and they are closed on the top side, which means they don't get damaged if your surprised by a rain shower, what is not the case with most chargers on market. We had already lost chargers from Bosch, from Milwaukee and from DeWalt because of water damage, but not a single one from Makita.
I own this set (work)and the gen 2 m12 fuel set (home) and honestly I like the Milwaukee impact driver better and the makita drill better (even with the plastic chuck) the makita drill is just more refined and the clutch settings work better. For the impact I dont like how long the makita is compared to the milwaukee. The m12 fuel impact is my favorite impact I've ever used. Also I like the makita bag more than the Milwaukee, the shoulder sling is really comfortable to use.
As you already know . I love my subcompact impacts . I got two of them on my truck and we use and abused them everyday 😎 I also have a lot of Makita tools and batteries on the truck . I'm glad that Depot sells Makita but they're cordless displays suck. They are zip tied up with no batteries so you can't get a feel for them. I am a fan of this platform although I like the Milwaukee as well. DeWalt not so much. My electrician has but the Makita and Milwaukee tools through the ringer and they've done well. Great channel!
A couple years ago I picked up an XDT14 with charger and 2, 2 amp in the clearance at HD for $99.00. I got the subcompact drill off Amazon with AMX points for $0.00. For most DIY around the house it will do it all. I would get the sub drill with the hammer. It is much easier to adjust the torque than the regular.
I have this set and love them. perfect for the home owner and think would be perfect for kitchen installers. im in contractor sales and wouldn't not recommend this set Makita is a solid platform they just need to get up to speed with marketing. Milwaukee and dewalt are full press with getting there tools into contractors hands and have a way better presence at trade shows. Milwaukee reps shows up and hands salesmen free tape, knives and tools to get into contractors hands. Makita gave me a couple pencils and a pen... don't forget to support you local lumber yard my yard will beat and big box price even if I got to sell it at cost. great channel keep up the great videos
I use the sub compact impact driver daily over there 171 because it is narrower and fits better into tight spots while fastening windows and doors but mainly window . The 171 is much more powerful and I bought it because it was the newest best bla bla bla but ended up going back to the sub compact impact . As for the sub compact drill , I sold it right after I bought the kit .
Nice one Vince these really look a cool set would be interested if you could buy separate so many drills I seem to accumulate but that driver looks nice good presentation dude.
I’m makita all the way, but dewalt offers a 3 speed transmission in their drivers. I own a set of Milwaukee fuel drill driver and makita lxt brushless 18v and I prefer the Makita all the way.
Funny enough I was talking with the guys the other day. That makita was under rated. I have a 10 inch miter saw I love. But my big Dewalt 12 inch combine miter is better for somethings. But the drills usually have less run out. I do alot in precision work and hate run out or wobbly bits or impacts. But my point was black and yellow and red seem to be only ones folks look at. There was time their saws were only one to run. Now everything looks like a transformer and folks pick based on their first opinion. I still feel they are getting the short end of the stick. Their biggest fight is once you commit to batteries and chargers, the investment is high!
I want to see a 3 inch screw test with that weak drill. I used to love Makita but I feel like they haven’t done very well over the past several years compared to the competition. Every time I look at a Makita tool it always seems to be lacking something.
Hi vince quick question have you ever had a problem with the gen 3 Milwaukee m18 fuel hammer drill/driver forward and reverse selector? Mine has been feeling loose and allways locks the trigger up from the selector being so loose it has been that ever since i bought it new.
I use Ryobi tools primarily, but I have mostly Makita batteries since I have an adapter that allows my Ryobi tools to run on Makita batteries. After my Ryobi brushless impact driver was stolen I shopped around for a replacement. I was able to find a pre-owned but unused Makita subcompact impact driver for about the same price as the Ryobi. It is arriving soon and I can't wait to try it out.
I've had this set for over two years now and absolutely love them, especially the driver. The auto speed position, where it starts slow and then speeds up is an awesome feature. I've installed everything from 1" drywall screws to 6" Timber Locks with ease. I bought them specifically because of their size and weight and because my old Milwaukee 14 and 18V drills gave up the ghost, which I was never happy with anyways. I would buy these again today if I needed too. btw, the bag used to be turquoise, not black.
... wen I needed a compact line I chose Milwaukee. The new M12 Brussels line is spectacular. I chose for my line of work M12FPDXKIT-602X M12 FUEL 6-IN-1 PERCUSSION DRILL and that combi drill is everything you need for second fix . To bad I could not record the performance because I work in hospitals and I are allowed filmmakers.
M12 I mean stubby and fuel ratchet should make that an easy choice. Then they have everything else Makita has. I'm actually a DeWalt/Makita bias guy too lol.
m12 impact is amazing and the palm nailer is a great tool but if you don't have any tools yet start with the makita because m12 is more specialty stuff whereas these makita batteries on the subcompact run on normal makita lxt line so you don't have to buy 100 different types of batteries
I need help deciding/buying. I’m in it for compactness but it appears the xdt16 is more compact than the “subcompact” impact driver...what’s going on there bro?
I picked this up for $188 out of the door at HD a while few days ago. I tried the impact driver for the first time on my RC vehicles and I already like it way more than the Makita drill that I've had for many years to do my stuff around the house and my hobby. Very nice tools indeed. I'm not a pro. Just a DIY guy.
Def sub makes more sense with makita because they are smaller than 12v and more options with the batteries. Dont have any makita but cant help to love what they do.
Hey Vince. Looking to buy a drill/driver and impact set. What is your opinion on what I should buy? This Makita sup-compact set?? Or the DEWALT 20V MAX XR Cordless Drill Combo Kit, Brushless, 2-Tool (DCK283D2) with the 887 impact?
Hey just found your channel. What power tool brand do you use most on the job? My family has never been a "fanboy" of any particular brand of tools, vehicles, etc. Makita tools have never failed us. My only complaint is that I had several Makita batteries (18v li-ion), that were not very old, fail on me.
I really wanted to like this black Drill, but I didn't like the speed control. Compared to other drills, it's control is not as smooth. I also have the cxt version and like it much more, though it does lack power... the m12 fuel drill is probably the best subcompact drill.
Well, if the bits would stay in the Milwaukee we could test them and find out. Ever since Milwaukee started having stuff built in Thailand (iirc) it’sgoje down a bitch ir two. Makita is king.
The zippers suck. Worked with these for 2 years straight and if you keep your tool bags near the work area instead of a separate spot to keep tools away from saw dust you’ll have the zippers jam with sawdust
Of course Makita is worth it. Sub Makita, cheap Makita, expensive Makita. No matter what Makita it is worth every penny.
I’d agree
Would you recommend them over the Milwaukee fuel? I’ve always wondered about Makita.

Subcompact makita or M12 fuel still trying to decide which would you recommend?
2 awesome platforms!
M12 I mean stubby and fuel ratchet should make that an easy choice. Then they have everything else Makita has. I'm actually a DeWalt/Makita bias guy too lol.
Heard m12 loses power over time
@@thatoneguy9482 that makes sense, i used some m12s for awhile and wasnt impressed.
m12 impact is amazing and the palm nailer is a great tool but if you don't have any tools yet start with the makita because m12 is more specialty stuff whereas these makita batteries on the subcompact run on normal makita lxt line so you don't have to buy 100 different types of batteries
I need help deciding/buying. I’m in it for compactness but it appears the xdt16 is more compact than the “subcompact” impact driver...what’s going on there bro?
FWIW the subcompacts might be a little longer but they're a lot more narrow.
i have screwdriver and impact makita 12 v like on video. and have 12 v lamp makita. and hammer drill makita. and angle grinder makita. makita one love
Quite frankly I request you review Hilti tools asap.
Thank you
👍🏻
Hey just found your channel. What power tool brand do you use most on the job?
My family has never been a "fanboy" of any particular brand of tools, vehicles, etc. Makita tools have never failed us. My only complaint is that I had several Makita batteries (18v li-ion), that were not very old, fail on me.
i thought the box says its all-metal? but then you said its a plastic chuck?
We should do a TTR between Makita full-size and subcompact.
@B T WE, as a community, genius....
@B T Dude, you are an idiot. I'm just saying....
Congrats on 55k VCG!💪👍🍻
Thanks ABD we appreciate that!!
excuse me sir...its 56k now 😎
kingofthecrease30 goes by so fast !!! 💪🔥
Makita . My new go to
I really wanted to like this black Drill, but I didn't like the speed control. Compared to other drills, it's control is not as smooth. I also have the cxt version and like it much more, though it does lack power... the m12 fuel drill is probably the best subcompact drill.
Not a Makita person but I still a zipper problem, does that count?
Man enough to admit it..jejejejeje you killed me there vince.lol
Vince I have a feeling like the M12 gen 2 would wipe the floor with these Makitas in a TTR
Wow that would be a good test!! How you been Jonathan?
@@VCGConstruction 55+ hours a week of work and 3+ hours a day in a car... Super super busy sir thanks for asking!!
Well, if the bits would stay in the Milwaukee we could test them and find out. Ever since Milwaukee started having stuff built in Thailand (iirc) it’sgoje down a bitch ir two. Makita is king.
Yes. Absolutely. Most especially the JDM versions.
plastic chucks are less snipery which i kinda like
The zippers suck. Worked with these for 2 years straight and if you keep your tool bags near the work area instead of a separate spot to keep tools away from saw dust you’ll have the zippers jam with sawdust
Vince when are we gonna get the 36 volt makita 10 inch???
Be patient, you'll be getting the 10 inch in due time.
