The depth can usually be determined by finding how deep the plumbing is that exits through the basement wall. Assuming the grade outside is level, the depth of the tank will usually be within about 1 foot of the depth of that pipe. Locating the lid can be tricky. Many tank manufacturers place the lids in different places. Your best bet is to contact a local pumper that is familiar with the tanks in the area and they should be able to give you some guidance.
