Sam11176 Dude just type in Lords of Thunder full soundtrack into the search bar. There's a channel that has the whole soundtrack from the PC Engine version, clean.
(I know, 1 year later but...) in the Retroarch Pc-engine emulator you can tweak the individual volumes of the game, you can make it sound however you want!
This game is ridiculously bad ass. Anyone who didn't think the pc-engine /turboduo wasn't as powerful as the genesis or super nintendo are just ignorant. The pce may have had an 8 bit cpu but it was blazing fast double that of the snes. It also had dual 16 bit gpu's that had their own processing power. That combined with a 21-bit serial bus and dedicated cpu instructions saving processing power and you see why even though it was the first 16 bit console, it hadn't peaked in its potential 6 years later with the remarkable neo geo ports and rondo of blood. That and it's nearly 500 on screen colors simultaneously made this a remarkable little machine. If NEC hadn't bungled the us launch by having a lame pack in game and poor advertising it would have had a chance. They should have done what sony did later with the playstation and appealing to young adults as the more mature option as opposed to the kiddy snes. With mature games and digital comics, rpgs and shooters. That's why to this day it's my favorite all time console!
Ironically, your comment is little ignorant too. Everything you said is true except the PCE and CD add on didn't allow for extra parallax scrolling. The Pc engine was only capable of displaying one layer of background so it couldn't compete with the other systems in the regard.
@@ajsingh4545 Right, but as this game proves, Hardware banging tricks lick screen-slicing, and using animated tiles can go a long way for great parallax scrolling, even during intense gameplay. The strong sprite abilities and general graphics and processing horsepower of the system allowed for the creation of games totally on par with what the Megadrive was capable of. There's also the fact that the PC-Engine had far better color range (4096 possible colors) than the Megadrive (512 possible colors), but sadly most developers never put strong use to the potential abilities of the PC-Engine. This game is one of those rare few that really showed it off, as was the CD Castlevania game.
It's so sad that there were so many dudes in the early days of CD-ROM games making dumb FMV games instead of using the format to make regular-ass games with bitchin' metal soundtracks.
You seem awfully concerned about "dumb" and "shitty" games. It's so sad that there are idiots who can't appreciate a good game just because of the lack of a "bitchin metal soundtrack." :P
That's not always ideal for good shmup players. In a lot of games, the weapon with a wider shot pattern does less damage for balance, so it's better for new players but not necessarily for experts.
@ValisHD Nice to see a variety in usage of the armor/weapons. Most people, including myself, usually stick with the earth armor as it's fairly powerful. But it doesn't make for a good presentation when all you see is that same weapon over again.
This is one of the most bad ass games on the Turbo Duo. What bringing the arcade home was supposed to feel like in the early 90's. One of my favorite games of all time. I would love if it made it's way into the Nintendo Switch and play it anywhere I go. And the many forgotten Classics the Duo only had...
Idk why people always say the mega cd port of this is bad. They look and sound pretty similar to each other. If anything the mega cd has the advantage of turning off sound effects in game with the model 1 volume gauge
guysafari They are both great, the only issue was that the SEGA CD could only display 64 colors at once on screen, whereas the TurboDuo was capable of displaying 482 colors on screen at once and it really showed when comparing the two.
It's not really an issue, the game actually displays more on-screen colors than many other Genesis/MD games so it's fine. I remember the developer utilized the HAM technique (Hold-And-Modify) to accomplish that. If they hadn't used HAM, the result would have been worse. The biggest issue is when you play the game in its highest difficulty setting - in SUPER mode the Sega CD version has very noticeable and annoying slowdown when too much is going on the screen, where the PC Engine version has more intense action plus revenge bullets when enemies die and no slowdown. Nonetheless, it's a fantastic port for the Sega CD and one of the best games for the system... I think people expected too much.
Even though I played the Turbo version when it first came out, and then the Sega CD version much later, I actually think the Sega version's soundtrack is a bit better. The guitars sound better to me. But I find everything else better with the Turbo version. Thankfully there is an iso patch out there where you can play the Turbo version with the Sega version's music.
awesome game with awesome music and a badass knight with different armor types . =D one of the best longplays ever for me ! i hope someday hudson or konami will make a sequel to this awesome game with more power metal and more destruction and everything ! =P
When I saw it on the Wii Shop Virtual Console I thought it was going to be bullshit, but, man, it looks badass as shit, it’s cool, genuine. And a Side-scrolling Shooter. I love it.
@ValisHD Interesting. I played Guardian Heroes Advance for GBA and collected all the guys, but I didn't discover the perfection of the challenge of the game, until I played it with Ginjiro. When I beat it on Hard mode with him, I really felt that I accomplished something very difficult and yet so satisfying.
Have you guys done a Panorama Cotton LongPlay yet? That would be an interesting LongPlay, its a tough game to play without dying. Also, a game that would be very difficult to do a longplay of, would be Advance Guardian Heroes, just playing the story mode doesn't do the game justice. Unlocking Ginjiro and playing the Story mode on Hard Mode or in Training mode with Random enemy fights is definitely the best way to experience the game, but is only for Masters like me.
Well, yes. Both were developed/published by Hudson Soft and Red. This is just a guess, since I don't know anything about the development of these titles, but they may have decided to try different styles between games just to broaden their audience or keep the games fresh and free from boringsequelitis.
I can't help but find it a laugh when some anime uses the name Farina (or alternate spellings like Pharina or Fallena) as if it was some mystical, regal name. It's the word in some Romance languages (and resembles those in others) for flour.
Damn the PC-Engine's sound hardware, this system almost always ruins a good CD soundtrack with jank-ass sound effects that are way too loud and abrasive.
@stringanime There's a forum for requesting longplays. Also, the games you're requesting are even for this system (of which the video is for), let alone related to this game. Seems a bit out of place IMO.
@malducci I don't have time to waste in forums, I only had enough time to write my thoughts as they came to me while watching this. So, ok here is a relevant comment. I own this game for SEGA CD, Same game less colors but has more voices. Perhaps my original comment made sense to me since the same game is on a SEGA System. Wait why the F@#$ am I explaining this to you?
@musiclover3928:"Hell yeah! Metallica, Queensryche, and Guns Roses rocking the games soundtrack." Actually more like Joey Tafolla, Marty Friedman, or Yngwie Malmsteen. I can see why you mentioned Queensryche though.
@alexbaxthedarkside hey, u could download the every single song of this game on KHinsiders . =) the songs are free and got really good quality . i just download every song of LORDS OF THUNDER because its metal at the finest . =D
Just the game alone is one of the best shumps ever, but combining it with the music it takes it to a different level!
Yeah! To a crap unfaisable even with savestates. They used cheatcodes on this one!
This game had the best sound track of any game ever created in the world.
This will be on the Turbgrafx 16 Mini!
If only I could hear the music over the sound of picking up Gems, that's pretty annoying

I agree. Japan was the only country that had BALLS to make GOOD GAMES using the CD format.
Maybe because you had to pay a real band to compose and play the song?
Paying whatever C-list actors you could find to act in your shitty FMV game probably wasn't much cheaper, though.
mischitary In my what?

I dunno I always liked using the Water Armor. UIt (aguably) has THE best defense of them all. And defense is what keeps you from getting killed.
The best armor was probably the water one, just look at it's fire pattern, it pratically hits everything on screen.
That's not always ideal for good shmup players. In a lot of games, the weapon with a wider shot pattern does less damage for balance, so it's better for new players but not necessarily for experts.

Most 90's game sound track ever!!!!
This is Johnny turbos favorite game
It sure has the arcade feel, and the soundtrack really rocks.
+assholemon it was out on the turbografixs cd before the faka cd
That was Gate of Thunder

musicmxer Nintendo can’t handle the power of the games for TurboDuo. XD Especially Lords of Thunder. The Switch will overheat and blow up. :P
I've got this in Wii & Wii U Virtual Console form. The lack of a PC-Engine games anthology on Switch is a crime.

This game is SOO Metal, i love it! ^_^
This game is awesome! Shame only few played it.
On the Japanese version this has voices when you buy items just like the sega cd.
This is arguably the best shooter for the PCE/TG16/TD platform. It also has probably the best soundtrack for any video game up to 1993.
"Up to 1993". You're crazy man!!. One of the best soundtracks FOREVER!!!!
