Amanda Wright just my opinion, but I think she didn't want to be tied to HIM because of fear of his name's influence and I think that came from Lorelai's stark aversion to that life, the wealth and privilege. For me, Rory saying no was a direct response to a less than positive vibe from Lorelai about the proposal. Logan would have never gotten in the way of her pursuing her career. He wouldn't have held her back at all. He's not that guy.
The problem was Logan got a job in the West Coast so she has to live with him in California since he got a good job in the Silicon Valley. Paris said it when they were having a conversation re Paris' break-up with Doyle (Rory thought she could persuade Logan to try it her way). Rory wanted a job in the East Coast where she has lived all her life whether it's the NYTimes or something else. Her "counter offer" (long distance relationship) was declined by Logan. For him, it has to be living together again, then marriage 'cause in his mind, that's the next step. Ultimatums are not good...compromise is better. They should have tried long distance for awhile and if it didn't work, one has to give up their position. At least, they tried something, instead of wasting all the love and that beautiful relationship they built for three years....sigh💜.
