Just come across this vid on Bishopstoke... certainly memories for me too. Born there 1952, lived in Underwood Road and Stoke Common Road, until emigrating to Australia in 1973. So many childhood memories especially seeing Bishopstoke beach (bay), where I caught my very first fish (Rainbow trout). So many adventures up and down the Itchen river. Seeing my infants school at St. Mary's, still looked the same from the front. Now it's greetings from the Indonesian Island of Bali. Everyone stay safe.
Oh my goodness , what a wonderful walk down memory lane, my Nan lived in Edward Avenue, Bishopstoke Elise Faithfull, my brother and I swam in the river.. 1960s... from what I remember there was spring lane, and the old Mount hospital? I used to have a pineapple juice and a bag of crips in the Anglers. Thank you.
I'm so pleased you enjoyed the trip down memory lane. The mount hospital and Spring Lane are towards the end of the video although from the permissive path all that remains is the old house ( The Mount). Watch out for several more videos from around Bishopstoke on my channel 🙂
Grown up in Bishopstoke. We’ve always used “the bay” rather than “Bishy Beach” (think this might be a more modern interpretation) Thanks for the vid 👍🏻
@@RobsHampshirePubWalks I respectfully disagree. The Bevis ship manifest states Richard Austin of BIshopstoke. I believe his sons were also born in Bishopstoke. I am not really sure where Titchfield comes from as I have never found that on any source documents...yet. It's my family history so I am always looking for more information. Cheers.
Very odd. I know Titchfield claim him as their own and as far as I know Bishopstoke History Society know nothing of him but I do note some hits for Richard Austin Bishopstoke on Google. Think I'll share the link to these comments with the Bishopstoke History Society to see what comes up. Are you on Facebook ? The Society have a page / group there.
@@RobsHampshirePubWalks I will look for the society page. Would love to know the precise truth as clearly there is conflicting documentation available. I appreciate the exchange and sharing the discussion link with Bishopstoke History Society. Best to you.
Hi Rob, great video. I haven’t been in that neck of the woods for over forty years, but it brings back so many happy memories. I’ve been lucky enough to travel the world, but you’d have to go far to see such beautiful sights - thanks for reminding me. P.s We were in the same year at the same secondary school. Keep making the videos mate - you’ve got the knack.
Thanks Pete, glad to bring back memories for you. You don't have to remind me that you were at school with me, I remember you well as one of the funniest people in our year group. Keep travelling and keep enjoying life mate.
Hi Clive I'm slowly adding key points to my videos so you'll be able to see what's in them. But off the top of my head, videos including disused railways include Chawton Soberton Wickham Bishops Waltham Funtley Hayling Island Langstone Cliddesden Kingsley Stockbridge There may be other odd references on other videos such as Romsey (signal box) but I think that's it at the moment
Thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you.
I'm very homesick now.I miss and love Bishopstoke so very much. Thank you very much for the video.

Richard Austin, ancestor to Stephen F. Austin founder of the US State of Texas was born in Bishopstoke 1598.
I'd love to lay claim to him being a Bishopstoker but I believe he was born in Titchfield.
