    Hi Guy,
    You made it ... Years that I try to find someone able to explain how to create real reggae with Logic Pro. I was really upset by the Logic pro drummer's who ignore clearly all these kind of rythmes ... and then .. the graal.
    Thanks very much for that : )
    Big Up
    Eric

      +bunyipben yeah. obviously with a little extra work it can sound better... we'll get to brass further on and do a little section on it.

    Fantastic. I love we are adding in more instruments. This one, though, almost stumped me until i figured out Logic replaced Midi Draw with the show/hide Automation button. Bit of trial and error and i was able to duplicate the pitch blend curve on the trombone.
    Also the sampler has been changed from the ES-24 but again a bit of trial and error the new on functions pretty much the same. Cheers.

    Want to thank you for all the great vids. I really like your old school embracing new tech approach. There's so much we take for granted and when someone like you makes the effort to pass a life time of knowledge along we all benefit. Any plans for mixing and mastering?

    • @dancetech
      @dancetech  9 лет назад +1

      +Gregg Chorebanian thanks... we will get onto mixing. Mastering for reggae is a whole other matter if we're talking vinyl... i shall now reveal that John Hassel was a distant relative of my family... my mums cousin or something. Years ago my mum mentioned she'd seen them on the TV when the BBC first aired Reggae Britannia cos she knew i was doing reggae music; she got his number and i had a few chats with John back in the late 80's. He told me he'd stopped doing cutting & he offered to sell me that lathe you can see in this documentary... like a complete tw*t i turned it down because it was a mono lathe :( ruclips.net/video/lUFNuX_a65M/видео.htmlm8s - dunno if he's still alive.

      +dancetech funny how music runs in families. He's 78 yrs young and still bringing it. Good to know anyone can contribute no matter how old or young.

    • @dancetech
      @dancetech  9 лет назад +2

      +Gregg Chorebanian is he alive? blimey! (how did you find that out btw?) Yes absolutely anyone can contribute whatever age. Older people have all the skills. It was ever thus wasn't it? But nowadays sadly we have this whole 'cult of youth' rubbish which encourages the youth to blank older people completely and thus sadly they generally don't learn the knowledge.

      +dancetech sorry, got crossed up with the american trumpeter Jon Hassell, although I didn't see anything indicating he's passed. rateyourmusic.com/label/john_hassell_recordings/ I like the bit about teaming up with Dennis Bovell, making trips to Jamaica and US to capture the original beats and sound. soundofthehound.com/2011/06/25/the-strange-origin-of-the-uk-reggae-big-bass-sound-john-hassell-recordings-barnes/ Dennis looked him up in the yellow pages, chatted him up and is part of reggae history now.
      Just goes to show you when the student is ready the teacher will appear, which, once they wake up, still gives the cult of youth some hope. ;-)

    • @dancetech
      @dancetech  9 лет назад +1

      +Gregg Chorebanian as far as i remember it he and his wife lived in west indies for some time and then returned to the uk after which he setup the cutting lathe in barnes. He stopped doing the service cos of endless problems getting paid, a familiar theme with reggae bands/artists sadly.

    Brilliant again
    I've been listening to various Reggae tracks to figure out what type of beat they are - love the old studio 1 stuff and the Trojan records from the 60s & 70s
    can't wait for some more of these videos
    are you going any Ska beats I have tried but failed - I don't think my tempo is right
    P.S. have you had a meddle with Logic 10.2 yet?

    • @dancetech
      @dancetech  9 лет назад +1

      +Alan Reynolds i didn't consider doing ska no... maybe. Logic 10.2 yes i'm using it. I did a video on it but didnt upload it as there didn't seem much point because people know what's in it, and i was out of the country when it was released so didn't get it until 7 days after it was released. The new cycle record to track is good, extra midi dsync stuff again good if you use alot of outboard midi kit i suppose; otherwise it's all about Alchemy really which is so complicated it sucks all the joy out of life :) however if one is prepared to learn it (a big task in itself) and spend time creating things with it, yes i suppose it's very good obviously for a freebie included with logic.

    • @dancetech
      @dancetech  9 лет назад

      +Alan Reynolds btw i will just say these were the most underrated of the british new wave of ska bands back in the day... ruclips.net/video/3113WVQBb6M/видео.html

    Ok guys, re-did this video with the correct pitch on the bass-line note. As a bonus also added the trombone lick from the original Studio One 1967 version.

    • @rawstarmusic
      @rawstarmusic 9 лет назад

      +dancetech HOW did you do that? Could you swap the video and keep it's name, place, comments and all? Tell me how to do that please.
      A random question. When I have a track with both audio and MIDI and I want to adjust the tempo I do the following. I use Varispeed mode in the transport bar. I set it to time only and no pitch-shift. Set it to show bpm and change the tempo there. Both audio and MiDi will follow this set tempo. If I don't use Varispeed and just change the tempo normally, the MIDI will follow but not the audio. Is this the best way to do it? I can't hear any problems with it. The regular bpm is still there however. Can I get the audio to toggle along in some other fashion?

    • @dancetech
      @dancetech  9 лет назад

      +rawstarmusic i just uploaded a new version. The old version with the dud notes is still on our channel. Checkout the FLEX audio in logic, but of course with some types of audio changing speed with FLEX while maintaining pitch results in artefacts and unnatural sounding audio.

    • @rawstarmusic
      @rawstarmusic 9 лет назад

      dancetech Try the Varispeed in LPX to see if you think it works. In ableton when changing a tempo, everything follows automatically. That's why I tried to get the similar in Logic. For me it works. If I have a song 105 bpm but it's to slow, I change it to 112 and there is no trouble with it. Everything follows the grid and metronome.

    • @dancetech

      +rawstarmusic - checkout FLEX

    I just downloaded the free p-bass on airwindows site and loaded it into ESX24. I run it through a bass amp and a slight chorus on one track and natural on another and pan them. I can arm both tracks and play them. Sounds great. If I want to save these 2 ESX24 as a layered instrument can I do that in LP9 I wonder? It's kind of a stack. What do you think?

    • @dancetech
      @dancetech  9 лет назад

      +rawstarmusic i'd have to boot logic 9 cos i aint used it for some 2 years or whatever it is, but i dont recall it did track-stacks
