YES! People should really try to stop smoking ! I remember my days working on respiratory and the high number of COPD patient's I saw, the number of ABG's i had to do etc, it is such a difficult disease to live with.
I'm a respiratory therapy student and I get SO excited every time I see you post videos that have anything to do with respiratory haha. Love your videos!
Seeing you with your attitude and the way you carry yourself just makes me smile! You make me proud of you just by watching you grow as a person. You are going to do great things, young lady!
Dear Siobhan, I am so glad I found your RUclips! I am a 25 y/o MD from Serbia who wasn’t really sure what I wanted to specialize in, but you helped me decide (and choose internal medicine). You are such an inspiration - smart, kind, full of energy, and I would like to be as half as good doctor as you are.
Shelby Zealand my ex bestfriend says that she would never quit it because she wants to die early. She’s only 15 and smokes 2 packs a day. Edit: to avoid any confusion, in lebanon you will never be chastised for underage smoking/drinking.
Yo, what?! Of any reason I've heard, that is the dumbest. Smoking at 15 to die quickly? Who ever invented that? xD La Reina, if you ever meet that ex-friend again, tell her to stop being silly. And to quit smoking, as it's just a waste of time in general. I don't know how much a pack of smokes costs in Lebanon, but if she smokes two a day, she can give that money to poor people who really need it or she can just send it to me. Oh, and Shelby Zealand, tell her to make quitting smoking her "thing".
As long as she respects non-smokers around her, I don't know what the problem is. Of course, it's likely that she will become ill at some point and impose herself on the medical fraternity, and will become more and more ill if she continues to smoke and likely die as a result. But its a metaphysical thing, isn't it? It's your life for what you want to do with it, and as long you don't abuse the love and goodwill of others, then go ahead.
I appreciate the respiratory doctors because they do so much to help patients breathe and feel better. As an asthma sufferer who takes a controller med and has a rescue inhaler, I can't help but be appreciative for the pulmonary docs who not only diagnosed me but helped me in my journey to breathe easier. Thank you for covering that rotation. Have a great day Sioban! ☺️😊
I’m currently a Pre-Med student and your videos keep me so excited and motivated for the future! Keep doing what you do, love your content and love your attitude towards everything :)
Your positivity is absolutely infectious, and on top of that you do an excellent job of making engaging videos. They're educational, but so entertaining! I'm an undergrad applying to vet med, and it can be so stressful, especially during COVID.... but your videos do such a great job of making me feel refreshed and motivated. Thank you for sharing!
I am a registered nurse who just started working in an medical ICU and before this I had zero hospital experience (I worked in a skilled nursing facility after I graduated). I found your videos very helpful in helping me getting familiar with all those procedure I need to help doctors to do as a nurse. Your thinking process and explanation also help me to work with doctors better in the future. Thank you so much!
Sure it does. It's the week between summer and winter. 😉 Actually I'm on the West coast of Canada, we don't have winter. Just a more rainy season with the odd snowflake thrown in for variety.
You're likely joking, but Vancouver/West Coast has a normal length autumn and a wussy winter. Snow is news-worthy here since we only see it for like 10 days/year and it melts in 24 hours lol.
Oh my gosh, Siobhan, I have been watching you since your first year! I’ve learn a lot just from watching you! In fact, you inspired me to get into Emergency Medicine! Although I am not of age to apply to colleges yet, you can never start learning too early! ♥️
I have an enormous amount of respect for our doctors, and all those who serve within the medical field. We need you, and in many cases, could not live the quality of life we have, without your compassion, love and dedication, including all your sleepless nights. So, just want to give a big thank you!
I wish healthcare professionals would remember that not all COPD is self inflicted. My Mother was given a COPD diagnosis after her lungs were damaged by infection yet was openly told that her treatment is inferior to that given to someone with something like asthma by the specialist nurse. She’s never smoked yet repeatedly gets asked if she’s quit. It’s so frustrating. Thanks for the video, I hope preparations for your exam are going well
Yes!! I was hoping this would be mentioned. It’s kind of like diabetes - people hear that word and they think “self inflicted”. I love it whenever a medical professional takes a moment to dispel misconceptions like that. (Siobhan does it often, which is one of things I love about her channel.)
Mark Weatherall I was just about to mention A-1! When I saw this episode (only half way through it now), I was wondering if A-1 will be mentioned. I don’t drink and never smoked, and always got told off by medical staff...
The reason alpha-1-antitrypsin (AAT) deficiency isn't mentioned is because it is the cause in only 1% of people with COPD. It's a genetic condition that's rare. The AAT protein is low thereby not protecting the patient's lungs. The majority of people with COPD are smokers and it's why medical professionals do tend to harp on eliminating smoking. I'm sorry some of your family members were treated poorly. Although the above is true, it's no excuse. Doctor's need to read someone's full history rather than making assumptions based off of the majority cause.
Since I started watching your videos I never even think to complain about any sort of waiting time especially in emergency because now I see what's going on behind the scenes, it's easy to get caught up in your own problems especially when you're hurting but it hasn't seemed to matter I always try to be as gracious as possible to the healthcare workers around me because they're put under a lot of stress and extremely long hours and their streamly knowledgeable and educated citizens just trying to do their job as best they can in a country where we offer free healthcare and therefore have very high volumes
I’m currently a medical lab scientist student so this was definitely an interesting point of view. I’m used to getting respiratory cultures but it’s nice to see how important those tests are to ensure that the patient gets the best care.

It’s so cool seeing this in applied residency! You’re making studies for exams and clinic rotations much more fun and interesting, thank you!! :)
Siobhan when you did the match day video tears were streaming down my face. I love that you got your choice, you have a heart of gold and you really deserved this. You are so great my love enjoy
I just now found you! I have really enjoyed watching your videos before going to school everyday when I need a quick video to watch! Such an amazing thing you do every day!
This popped up in my suggestions, maybe because I'm a Nurse Practitioner in a hospital. It's interesting to see the difference in a US hospital vs a Canadian hospital. You seem like such a genuinely caring person, I hope you never lose that. Fantastic video, new subbie here! 💜💜
COngratulations on your match to rheumatology. I love your spirits and most of all your smile. It's good to see a doctor smiling through residency. I'm still in medical school hoping to make it to clinicals and residency.
Hi Siobhan, I love your energy. I dropped out off nursing school 20 years ago because my anxiety was extremely high. I would have panic attacks. I’m back in now and loving it. I have a different outlook and love the practical and learning experience. I’ve just had to get marked off for putting the sterile gloves on. We also have dines obs and we have just gone through basic lung functions and abnormalities. When you were talking about your patient with COPD I really could picture her leaning forward, trying hard to get oxygen and I have an idea why. It’s exciting. I go on my first hospital prac in 2 weeks and I’m looking forward to it. 20 years ago I would have been dreading it. I’m really grateful to you and everyone else who make videos and taking up valuable time to provide me with information about medicine and hospitals. Thank you.
Wow, I’m a first year nursing student and always feel like I don’t know much about anatomy and physiology. I always doubt my knowledge and my ability to be a nurse/health care professional. But it was SO refreshing to watch this video and understand mostly everything you were talking about. Hypoxia, COPD, pleura effusion, ox sats, cell count differentials. Makes me feel like when I graduate, I will actually be competent and knowledgeable enough to do my job and do it well 💕.
This is an amazing video!! Love your energy in EVERY video and the knowledge you share. Very educational. I've made so many of my friends watch your video for educational purposes haha. Love you and can't wait for more.
I think in between the snowy streets of Ontario and the similar Toomey architecture and seeing the inside of the hospital that seems to look like every other Canadian hospital all the way to seeing those Tim Hortons cups of your fellow residents during your lesson.... it's the small things but big reasons why I watch you my fellow Canadian!
Thank you Siobhan. This is truly an important video of you about treating patients with Respiralogy Rotation. Some people with cancer get this kind of lung problems. Siobhan, you know, because of my illness motor neurone disease, I'm unable to speak louder, because doctors said my lungs are shrunk because of nervous breakdown in my body
Good to hear those familiar diseases specially COPD. I’m in my 2nd year in RT (respiratory therapist) program. We are in charge of pulmonary function test and help those COPD patients and many more to breath better.
I loved this video I work for a Pulmonologist. I have been a Medical Assistant for 6 years and I'm going to start taking my prerequisites In January to get into the nursing program to finally be an RN It is very heartbreaking seeing the patients with COPD most of them were smokers for 40 plus years. Lots of lung cancer patients as well. I always get so scared when I take there pulse ox and the machine starts beeping because it's so low and they are gasping for air. I love your videos they are very informative. Keep up the great work!
She's smart, she cares, and she has the gift of being able to teach. The Canadian language (as opposed to the U.S. version of English) uses the term "Respirology," where here, it's called Pulmonology. I think their term is superior. Once again, great video. And either she's great at weeding out the less pleasant docs, or her program is filled with wonderful physicians.
When I think of what a doctor should be it is a lot like you I have not been so lucky to find one like this though my pulmonologist was awful I am 42 with stage 4 emphysema I told him my oxygen dropped into the 70s laying in bed it took him 2 months to actually test this and put me on oxygen now I have congestive heart failure moderate regurgitation in my tricuspid, mitral valves and my mitral valve leaflets have become thickened ...So keep being awesome ,positive and a doctor that listens to the patient
I quit smoking this summer because I had a tonsillectomy, so happy that I did not start again! Tried to quit smoking 2 times before but this time I have succeeded and feel so much better! I almost never get colds anymore, food tastes better and I don’t worry about lungcancer or COPD anymore ☺️ Very good video! ❤️
I appreciate doctors and nurses even more after your videos. You also inspirer me to become a better and stronger worker. I love seeing you succeed, working hard for your dream with a smile on your face! 💙
My niece just finished her residency, she has decided to be a Hospitalist, she really liked it. & my other niece finished her residency in OB/GYN . I am so proud of them both. Good luck to you as well. 😊
I'm a current respiratory therapist student and it was very interesting to watch tbis video today!!!! My favorite by far 🙌 hehe I guess I am a bit biased 😅
Ah yay!! The week couldn’t end in such a better way! Sunday I placed 5th on the podium at my regional oireachtas (which is basically the competition where u qualify for worlds, all Ireland & other major competitions in competitive Irish dance) & I QUALIFIED!! Can’t wait for the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN DUBLIN 2020!! It brings me back to Canadian nationals & Irish nationals earlier in the yr when I was in hospital a few days with low bloods! It sucks but I hope I can get through 2020 without any mishaps & can deal with juggling school, hospital oppoitments & dance class 5 days a week 3 hours at a time!!
Omg I love you so much!! I remember when you would say, “a first year medical resident” and now look at you!!! You’re such a rockstar ❤️ such a great Influence!
I am a recent follower to your channel and I quite enjoy it as a layman we get to see so many aspects of a residents life thank you for that I had a heart attack a few years ago so I get to be one of the chosen few to be a regular visitor to hospital for tests and such and it’s even better as it is a teaching hospital UNHBC so I also when I am there I have let it be known that if medical students or residents are there I will be their guinea pig I’m an oddball that way. Once even I was visiting a friend in Emerg and the attending was someone I knew and she asked if the students and 1st yr resident could do checkup on me was quite entertaining for me
I started watching your channel, only a few days ago. Now, your one of my favorite youtubers! I love your content, and it's good to watch an educational youtuber!
Violin MD in case you were wondering, it’s not like it’s a bad thing. It’s quite adorable. Just wanted to get that out in case you felt like it was a bad thing that your eyebrows do that.
My husband stopped smoking cold turkey and iam so proud of him. We finally are buying our first home and as thank u for this blessing he made the promise to stop smoking. I am so happy !!! We want daddy with us for the longest possible!! ❤️🧔🏻👩🏻👧🏻👧🏻
hi Siobhan (I hope that's the right spelling) .. I just wanted to congratulate you on becoming a rheumatologist. I've been here since you were a 1st year medical resident, and all your hard work has definitely paid off. you will make an excellent rheumatologist and anyone that sees you and is treated by you, are getting one of the most compassionate and caring doctors out there. congratulations again, and best of luck on your new career. :)
This was was one of the most interesting videos by far for me since I am constantly seeing and taking chest x-rays it's always fascinating to see what the doctors interpret from the x-ray images we take and how they are diagnosed!
I’m so glad to see your new videos! I have a very rare auto immune disease, so I’m curious what types of cases you’ll be seeing! Much love to you!!!!💗💗💗
I’ll bet these sort of rotations are especially enjoyable now that your fellowship in Rheumatology is all settled, Siobhan! You’re going to have a great holiday season!
Congratulations on your ‘match’!!! I watched the video and it was certainly pure delight on your part, very happy for you. I enjoy your videos very much, I have always been interested in the science of medicine and you explain things really well. See you in the next video !!!!!

She is lovely, I’m glad she got Rheumatology. Long old day but still as cheery as the start of her day!! 😊
I got my whole family to love you! Your videos are so interesting and informational! Much love from my family and from Minnesota❤️!
As a nursing student I love these videos so much and love that I can understand what youre talking about :) thank you for such great content!!!!
Briana Solano same!!!
Good to hear those familiar diseases specially COPD. I’m in my 2nd year in RT (respiratory therapist) program. We are in charge of pulmonary function test and help those COPD patients and many more to breath better.
It's Saturday so it's Dr. Siobhan day! This is a very timely video for me since I've been dealing with respiratory issues for about a year.
A great way to end finals month, a Siobhan video! 🤩✨🙏🏻
i want to be like you when i grow up! you play and instrument and do clinic work, so inspirational!!
Love your videos! I love that they’re actually real life things going on!
Awww thank you weather is horrid here in the uk it's a grey day raining and then you upload and make my day better 😀
Same in Sweden
Louise Townsend same in Michigan
I need to say it again.
This is so informative of healthcare in a teaching environment in Canada. Thanks for sharing!
What a marvelous person you appear to be. Wish you were here in Ca.
Thank you Siobhan...you are an amazing doctor..
Loved all your videos since year one! Thank you for filming and editing on top of your workload.
This is a good video to watch when you’re sitting in Cleveland Clinic
What’s Cleveland Clinic?
Magic Lentil Soup a hospital
@@magiclentilsoup2375 the Cleveland clinic is more than just a hospital. It is like the Mayo clinic. Highly respected.
@@mollyroberts2458 Oh so I guess like Great Ormond Street Hospital then
Omg I love you so much!! I remember when you would say, “a first year medical resident” and now look at you!!! You’re such a rockstar ❤️ such a great Influence!
I am a recent follower to your channel and I quite enjoy it as a layman we get to see so many aspects of a residents life thank you for that
I had a heart attack a few years ago so I get to be one of the chosen few to be a regular visitor to hospital for tests and such and it’s even better as it is a teaching hospital UNHBC so I also when I am there I have let it be known that if medical students or residents are there I will be their guinea pig I’m an oddball that way. Once even I was visiting a friend in Emerg and the attending was someone I knew and she asked if the students and 1st yr resident could do checkup on me was quite entertaining for me
She is literally the perfect human. I don’t think she’s even human, I think she’s an angel lol ❤️ love you girl
I started watching your channel, only a few days ago. Now, your one of my favorite youtubers! I love your content, and it's good to watch an educational youtuber!
Thank you for all you do to help the people 💕💕💕
Ever since one comment said how your eye brows move when you say “Xrd year medical resident”, I can’t unsee it no matter how hard I try.
haha really? that's so funny!

You’re such an inspiration

I’ll bet these sort of rotations are especially enjoyable now that your fellowship in Rheumatology is all settled, Siobhan! You’re going to have a great holiday season!
