  • Silent. The date given for this film was 1949, but it is certainly pre- WWII. This film highlights the many treatments that exist for psychoses and psychoneuroses. Malaria therapy is mentioned in passing, which is something I haven't previously heard of

Pretty sad these patients aren't seen today. But at the and of the day, this all lead up to knowing the things we do today x some terrible things happened in psychic hospitals though

So many of these treatments involved activating or calming down peripheral nerveous system signals, like a sensory processing treatment. It's amazing how much treatment has changed but also remained the same

No wonder so many people lost their lives in such terrible places meant to help them.

Who says "some" of this isn't still happening in State hospitals? In all fairness, I didn't see anything abusive here. They were trying to help these people the only way they knew how. That said, there ABSOLUTELY was/is abuse in mental & physical hospitals. I'd like to think workers and family members can feel much more open to reporting such abuse these days.

    • @lfairy6130

The abuse is manipulation and isolation and treating people who are clearly neurodivergent as stupid etx

@@lfairy6130 back then they didn't know much about those things. They were still new then so they were using what they already know to try there best and help.

Exactly! This was pre medication days. They had one psych med then. The release of antipsychotic meds allowed hospitals to close. And I bet the treatment in a psych hospital was less traumatic than living on the streets being denied mental health services.

Something HARD & Sturdy for the patient to bite down on, in hopes that they won't bite their tongue or even chomp part of it off, 😳🤯while the electricity causes the jerky, seizure-like convulsions and involuntary movements.

A mouthguard essentially. To protect the tongue. Because seizures can induce involuntary muscle movement. Which can cause the jaw to bite down very hard until it stops. And ECT is basically inducing a seizure as a sort of “reset” to the brain.

In my case and the cases of king Faisals 3 bus loads of orphans from king Faisals orphanage that was taken to George Wallaces friend Dr Joesph Glaister and sometimes I want to say I believe that I know you and know where you really came from and whats happened to you over the years but I am to scared to? Some of the orphans from Saudi Arabia and Russia that was on the 3 bus loads of orphans of king Faisals orphanages that was given electric shocks reprogramming therapy to make them forget themselves still go to Riverbend Mental Health Center from when Dr Joesph Glaister was a doctor?? I want to say you was adopted out to someone other than your real parents by Howell Heflin and Doug Jones and Jeff secession offices that gave you new identitys and never wanted you to ever be found out about because they sealed your identity and that you was never to remember who you really were?? And its going to be OK! Triangle 🔺️ Marie Davis
