Great presentation. Also, this is the best on-screen presenter in the history of camera store online programming. If she didn't have a wedding ring on I'd commence composition of camera store gear-head girl love songs. The point being -- she's great.
Very informative! I have a couple of good solid tripods, but for video work I'm less than thrilled with the ways their heads are working for me. This gives me food for thought.
My favorite tripod is “HILLPOW Q6 plus tripod”,I felt safe with my camera on it. The legs are easy to extend and tighten, the head is very smooth in all directions. I can use it for many years.
I am stuck between the Davis & Sanford Provista 7518 Tripod with FM18 Head or the Magnus VT-4000, I am only going to be using the tripod for video (Movies/Short films) They both look professional & sturdy but it's hard to say when there not right in front of you, Which one of these two would you suggest?
Stromedy Both are excellent choices. The Davis & Sanford Provista 7518 Tripod with FM18 Head will support more than twice the weight of the Magnus VT-4000making it the perfect studio tripod for applications of up to 18 lbs. Many thanks for the thorough review, however; which head do you prefer for both Still & Video recording at the same time. Please consider working with 300-400 mm Zoom Lens and relatively heavy Camera body for safety and security. Best regards from Egypt.
I'd prefer a ground spreader as you can take them off to use on uneven ground, tighter spaces etc. (some mid spreaders can be removed but they're more involved to get off/put back on). I've been able to get the tripod into locations where a mid spreader would not be able to. The stability on low angle shots is greater as well as being able to get to a lower angle than a mid spreader.

I have used a lot of different Tripods and fluid heads over the years. Some OK, most bad. A good friend said that my camera on my tripod was like putting re-tread tires on a sports car. I then went out and got a Cartoni Tripod. Cartoni is the absolute best for my line of work and shooting style.

Can you recommend a good quality tripod and fluid head for use with a Sony A7s, exclusively for video? Most of the better tripods and heads were designed for heavier cameras. Several of them include a minimum weight of 2kg in their specifications. Thanks.
Below is a link to a nice Sachtler brand video tripod which is ideal for smaller Mirrorless and HDSLR video cameras. It has a 5-step counter balance system which will allow you to easily work with a smaller lighter camera such as the A7s. See the link below for details. - Yossi bhpho.to/1tb4seY
2:37 - "Moving up a bit in quality to a fluid head like you'll find on this Satchler tripod, you can expect a counter-balance control, in addition to the locks and tension controls. ... The other two heads have a fixed non-adjustable counter-balance ..." This is confusing since B&H's listing for the Manfrotto 502HD states that it DOES have a counter-balance control from 0 to 16.5 lb. I do see mention of this as a "three step counter-balance adjustment" though, so it's not super precise.

If I opted for the Manfrotto non-ball version, you say one has to put the head in balance by adjusting the tripod's legs. My question is: Can I put an optional ballhead in between, such as the SIRUI K-20X? That way I could balance the Manfrotto head all the time easily by adjusting the Surui's ball.
While you could put the Manfrotto head on a ball head such as the SIRUI K-20X, this wouldn?t be advisable. You start to decrease the stability of the system when you start stacking heads. *Christina* askbh@bandh.com
B and H Meanwhile I bought them both and I start running into problems when increasing the panning friction ring (the screw of the quick release plate of the K-20X loosens). But I just cannot figure out how to level the Manfrotto head in a quick way when I just have the legs to do so. Any suggestions?
Video1 If you are having troubles getting the tripod level just using the legs, you might go with a leveling base, such as the Sirui LE-60 Leveling base. This would be a much better solution than a ball head, as it will have little effect on the stability of the system. bhpho.to/1emzB7C *Christina* askbh@bandh.com

I know y'all aren't an advice forum, but I gotta ask... what's a good stabilizing solution for taking photos from ground level? Most tripods can get low to the ground, but I'm looking for a solution where the base is naturally compact and not too tall (so I'm not constantly lowering something). This is for night photos, so I need it secure (FYI, I've seen the bean bag options). Also, I have a Canon 7D, Mark II... not sure the GorillaPods are a good option.
I would recommend the *Platypod Max Camera Support with BE-117 Ball Head Kit,* _B&H # PLPMPMT1009K,_ for your usage needs. For a more economical option, the *Glide Gear LayLow Universal Camera Mounting Plate,* _B&H # GLLL100,_ along with either the *Oben BE-108 Ball Head,* _B&H # OBBE108,_ or the *LED Science Q-08 Professional Ball and Socket Head,* _B&H # LELSS6PBH,_ would also work for your usage needs. bhpho.to/2TbJr52 bhpho.to/2zLAaaM bhpho.to/2tTA9Oq bhpho.to/2DxU4uB
What is the best budget 7 ft. high tripod to buy that I can use for videoing government type meetings to shoot over the heads of people walking in and out of meetings? The first one I bought was a Bower for only about $26 through Amazon and also sold locally at places like Office Max and Best Buy. It served my needs well until this week when the telescoping extension jammed and I was afraid to put any more pressure on the cranking plastic handle for fear it would break. I guess everyone learns the hard way why the price is this low. I don't find many ads for 7 ft. high tripods, though. I would love to step up to a fluid head one if I could get i in the $100 range, but my budget doesn't allow me to even think about $400-$1100 or more tripods on my senior budget. I may have to resort to just continue buying the Bower one and realize I may be buying one every six months.

So, to get a Magnus VT-4000 Professional, it will cost you about $160.00, while a Manfrotto MVH502A is anywhere from $300 to $400 dollars depending on which base you combine the head with. I'm a small DSLR filmmaker who was looking to invest a few hundred dollars into a very nice tripod that will last me a very long time. Is there a reason for that dramatic change in price, or would a Magnus still allow me to get very similar quality shots?
As you go up the ladder in price, tripods will start to go up in various ways. Higher quality materials, better build quality, more features and higher load capacities. Since you are using a DSLR load capacity is not a major concern. The Sachtler Ace M is a great option for a Tripod that is a few hundred dollars that will last for years and give you great results. bhpho.to/2dCkblA Thanks! -Joey P
The Magnus VT-4000 Tripod System with Fluid Head is an excellent choice for an entry level video product. It offers many features typically found only on more advanced tripod systems. For my money, it offers a ton of features and quality at a bargain price - leaving very little on the table. Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: askbh{at}bandh{dot}com. Mark S.
Sachtler makes a very nice video tripod that would be suitable for using with an HDSLR set up like your 70D with the Tamron 150-600mm lens. See the following link for details on the tripod. - Yossi bhpho.to/1tb4seY
I have a Hama Delta Pro 1802D tripod. Unfortunately, the ball head does not now support the weight of my camera (Nikon P900), it slowly tilts forward. Could you tell me if there is any way of adjusting the fluid ball joint to make it lock in position. Hama don't seem to have a help desk.
+Mavis McCordick Unfortunately we do not carry Hama tripods and this is not a model I am personally familiar with. In researching it online the capacity of the tripod/head should be close to 11lbs. I was not able to find any details about the head having a lock, and generally I would not recommend overtightening the knob but that may be the only option. My next idea was to swap the head for a new/different head, but I was not able to find any details as to whether the head can be removed. If that's something you'd be interested in exploring, see if you can try and remove the head, if its removable it should come off by turning counter-clockwise. If you reply back with your findings we can then see about recommending an alternate head for you. - Yossi
Hi, today I received a 48" slider and quickly realized that my targus tripod is a joke. Would the magnus vt 4000 be able to hold my slider without much flex? I'm also very limited on funds so the higher end tripod are out of reach. As far as cameras I'm using small action cameras like gopro and drift innovation
Depending on the slider and camera package, sliders will tend to dip on the far ends, especially one that is that long. Weight most likely won't be an issue, especially with a DSLR. To be honest, the best solution for 4 ft sliders is to use light stands on each end, which will ease concerns about flexing. It's cheap, and majority of sliders now offer a 3/8-16 threading on each end. A heavier tripod, such as the Davis & Sanford Provista 7518 (B&H # DAPVT75) would be a better choice than a Magnus. |Heather S|

Can someome help me out with my following question: I want to buy the most left one (Magnes) but is it good for interviewing.. is it tall enough? (Is the height like right around 1.75-1.85 cm?) Can someone please help me out. Thanks.
hi, I'm primarily a stills shooter and i have some tripods geared for that but i'm getting more and more jobs for video shoots so i am looking at investing in a tripod setup. do you think its better to just get a head to mount on my current tripod or get a full system? I have an oben ac1351tripod with a pd117 head but the head is very jerky when panning at first then smooth after. I want to spend around $250 - $350 and this will be a dedicated video setup and i do not care about weight as much as i do about the smooth movement also the taller the better i do lots of concert type events so i will want to be above the people walking in front the lens thanks a lot.
+InfinitelyFocused The fluid head is going to be more important than the tripod legs for video. Depending on the work you will end up doing, you will want to choose legs accordingly. A nice choice for a fluid video head is the Manfrotto MVH500AH, B&H # MAMVH500AH. |Heather|
+InfinitelyFocused - The Manfrotto MVH500AH would be the better choice if you have a lighter camera set up; overall its a smoother head to work with. If you are planning on working with full sized video cameras the Benro S8 would be more appropriate for the heavier load. - Yossi
You can use them with a smart phone if needed. All you would need is a compatible tripod mount kit for the phone you choose. The mount kit would give the phone the 1/4-20 mount needed. Dana G. askbh@bandh.com
+B and H What do you think of the Benro A2573F with the S4 head. I have just bought one but am unsure about it and have three days to return it. My only real concern is that it will not be smooth enough.
The panning and tilting action are smooth. Keep in mind that while the tilt has a drag control - the panning motion does not. Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: askbh@bandh.com.>Mark

The Magnus VT-350 Video Tripod with Fluid Head is a lightweight and portable tripod system for shooting stable videos with DSLRs, small camcorders, and any other cameras up to 15 lb. It is suitable for use for event and wedding coverage and hhas a maximum height of 82" (Just 2" shy of seven feet). B&H # MAVT350. bhpho.to/1tOFLnh.
The next step up from Manfrotto offer over 90" of total height but is a more expensive proposition: B&H # MAMVH502AHK1 (B&H Kit). bhpho.to/1paAbGl.

Thank you so much
Very good info
What heavy-duty tripod fluid head can handle a 50 to 100 lb camera for an affordable price
If you are looking for an economically-priced fluid video tripod head that supports up to 100 lb, the *Kessler Crane Hercules 2.0 Head,* _B&H # KETH1001,_ would be the most economical option I see in our inventory for your usage needs. You would need to purchase either the *Kessler Crane K-Plate Kwik Release Plate,* _B&H # KEMG1012,_ or the *Manfrotto 577 Rapid Connect Adapter with Sliding Mounting Plate (501PL),* _B&H # MA577,_ to connect your camera to the tripod head. The above head is designed for use with tripods that accept a 75mm or 100mm bowl.

So I have a nice tripod, yet no good head. I have a ball head yet little to spend on a good head, my goal is as low as possible. Best recommendation for a head that is smooth and cheap as possible?

Mia just to know which type of fluid can i use to lubricate my tripod being that my tripod is not kind of fluid type thanks
I'm wondering if there is such thing as a lock for tripod.. I have a manfoto good tripod filming myself street performing on my gh5, the tripod is chained to my music stand, altho I need a lock for the attachment that the camera is husted to tripod so no one can screw it off & run away with it
basically, a lock where it needs a key which i will have in my pocket
I would consider a cable type lock that one might use for luggage or bicycles.

I have a Camlink TP PRE 27 tripod. Can I install on this a Manfrotto Head?
Hi, can you please suggest some really cheap tripods for Manfrotto MVH500AH Fluid Video Head? All Manfrotto tripods are expensive so I was wondering if are some others? Is it good for Slik 504QF-II? Thanks.

I have a professional fluid action video tripod, how much do they run, price
Hi can i use the Manfrotto MT294A3 + MVH502AH? are they a good set up?
Are there any downsides to the Magnus, it seems to have good stability while panning and such, but is there anything that would leave it lacking?
Any suggestions for low budget fluid heads, you know, not for millionaire?

i have a 70d with a 150-600mm tamron lens which tripod and head would you recommend for video, mostly shooting sports like surfing
|Heather S|
Great video! You didnt talk about the tripod on the left, what brand?
+Aviatorspot As this video is from 2012 we no longer carry that specific setup, however the E-Image EK60AAM Fluid Drag Video Head and Tripod would be the current equivalent: bhpho.to/1ublZ4L
*Andrea
the fact that you still reply to comment on videos from 2012 is extreme dedication
Can someome help me out with my following question:
I want to buy the most left one (Magnes) but is it good for interviewing.. is it tall enough? (Is the height like right around 1.75-1.85 cm?)
Can someone please help me out. Thanks.
You're beautiful and the best reviewer in the world.....this is a PLUS!

hi, I'm primarily a stills shooter and i have some tripods geared for that but i'm getting more and more jobs for video shoots so i am looking at investing in a tripod setup. do you think its better to just get a head to mount on my current tripod or get a full system?
|Heather|
thanks a lot Heather in your opinion is this even as the benro S8 or a step up or a step below???
+InfinitelyFocused - The Manfrotto MVH500AH would be the better choice if you have a lighter camera set up; overall its a smoother head to work with. If you are planning on working with full sized video cameras the Benro S8 would be more appropriate for the heavier load. - Yossi
Good overview, but I am always amazed at how little attention is paid to audio. The chorus / echo effect here is annoying.
Can these tripods be used with smartphones? Like the galaxy note 3? For 4k recording
You can use them with a smart phone if needed. All you would need is a compatible tripod mount kit for the phone you choose. The mount kit would give the phone the 1/4-20 mount needed.

I have SONY Z1U Video camera and like to get a god tripod for it any suggestions please let me know thanks...
I have been using a Davis & Sanford fluid head tripod
for my Z1U for 6 years.

Great Video! Just wondering is there a low angle adaptor such as the one at 5:59 that can be used with the Manfrotto 190XproB?
Sorry for the off topic, but how would you compare the 055XPROB with the 755XB?
+Juandi Aznar The Manfrotto 055XPROB is now discontinued and no longer available. The Manfrotto 755XB MDeVe Aluminum Video Tripod is nearly identical in form and function and would be an excellent substitute choice. bhpho.to/I1Hthn

Where can i get the first tripod you recommended ? Whats its name
What is the fourth tripod she doesn't seem to mention? The one on the left, her right. How tall is Mia?
Thanks, my Magnus arrived yesterday. I didn't want a "cheap" tripod but did want to save some money that will probably be needed more in audio. Looks like I succeeded.
is here only DSLR?has not any sony big video cam?
The minimum height of the Manfrotto 190XproB is 3.3" with the center column in horizontal position. No low angle adapter should be necessary. contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: askbh{at}bandh{dot}com. MarkS
Hi,
I find the Magnus tripod interesting but how do you raise the head ?
I don't see a crank on the side...Do you have to adjust the legs ?
On my old Vivitar I have one and is great when I want to raise the head just a little.
This beautiful lady should have done more videos for B&H.
Thank you, babe.

why are these videos no longer on the B&H iTunes podcast?
Now I'm even feeling better about my D&S
Is there any fluid head pan and tilt tripod in manfrotto where we can go portrait from landscape.
Take a look at this one: Manfrotto MT190X3 Aluminum Tripod with MH293D3-Q2 3-Way Photo Head B&H # MAMT190X3K15 (B&H Kit). Cameras, sport optics, or camcorders that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 mount can be connected to the quick release plate before securing it to the pan-and-tilt head. The head can be rotated 360°, tilted 90° forwards or 30° backwards, as well as 90° sideways for portrait orientation. Both the 360° rotation as well as the backward and forward tilt movements function simultaneously, however for changing from a landscape to portrait orientation, the sideways tilt can be independently adjusted and secured. bhpho.to/2XwU2N1 >Mark
@@BandH thank you.😀
No mention of plates that i heard. All of my cameras that can shoot video have Arca Swiss L Brackets.
