- John Roth aka DJ Libertad (www.djlibertad.com) of the Hit Squad DJs (www.hitsquaddjs.com) does a side by side comparison of subwoofers QSC KW181 vs RCF 705 AS II in his backyard.
Setting them at 12 o'clock doesn't really mean anything. We have no idea if that's a unity gain setting or what. A more accurate, and fair test would be to send signal to each speaker until it begins to peek and then back it off slightly. That way you know that each speaker is at its maximum work capacity. That's a much more fair and accurate test of what each one is capable of.
Good advice ! This is the correct way to calibrate the input gain and power output.
I just got RCF ART 932-A so 3 gigs later I can say there is no fear of failure - volume up full all the time, never a red light coming on. Bass comes through even though only 40 lbs each

Rcf all the way and plus tbh the qsc sounds deeper well no duhh qsc is 18 inch but if you put an 18 inch rcf sub it will kill this!!
I have the qsc ks118 and I did the same and got a 15” to have something smaller and lighter. I went with RCF as well. I got the 905 as-ii sub. I heard good things about RCF.
You really should have done a third test with the same top speaker on each. I did this with my setup. The RCF top really integrated much better with the RCF sub. It was like magic.
I imagine that the QSC sub would integrate better with one of their speakers from the K series.
did you try it with the rcf 12 inch or 10 inch top ?
when you testing a QSC 118 K-Sub then you get on an RCF 8004. It kicks the QSC on the wall. More Output, lower truth Bass kicks, and deeper kicks. QSC is for begginers. RCF get much more tight and round low end beyond 40 Hz with more lienarity as the QSC K Sub. QSC build good quality amplifiers but not speakers.
This was helpful for me, even a video at 6 years old. Looking to upgrade from my JBL IRX .. not wanting to deal with the size and weight of the QSC considering I’m packing in a Grand Cherokee. The size and weight JBL IRX is perfect and I want to maintain that
Just purchased the Rcf 705 as2. I have rcf735a tops. Thanks for posting your videos. I have been using Alto subwoofer so hopefully will notice a huge difference.

This was a great review. I just tried the 15s - they provide great sound for the weight. I am a mobile DJ and I often load/unload by myself. I currently have 2 Behringer B1200d. I was thinking about get (2) more for portability. They cost $300 each (500 Watts, not sure if it's peak or RMS). It's either the 1 or 2 RCF 15s or (2) more 12s. I need something bigger for larger venues. So far I have been doing smaller venues.
Oh, the cool thing about all of the Behringer Subs, they have a crossover knob for low's going down to 70 hz.
the good thing about rcf subwoofer is that it has a suitable sound for pa system. meanwhile the qsc on the other hand. has a best sound quality for recording studio.

I felt the QSC kicking my head.... I couldn't imagine what it would sound like with Godsmack cranked up!!
I got 2 905 MK1 with Neo Mag. and they are the best sounding subs I got. I take SQ over SPL plus like what you said its good for the Lumbar region.

It actually does make sense, as your back, or your wallet does not care about transducer diameter as long as performance ratio is there.
You're not getting it. The comparison isn't spec for spec. It's meant to provide choices to people because each product has different strengths and each may be more suitable for different use cases, as well as budget and size concerns. This totally helped me make a purchasing decision.

to make things more interesting RCF's newly released 15" SUB 905-AS mk2 in the 905 manuals says:
"There are two possible high pass choices (30 Hz or 40 Hz) and four low pass choices (60 Hz, 80 Hz,
100 Hz, 125 Hz) for eight preset combinations. Cardioid presets are available for all 30 Hz high
pass presets "
could be the best of both worlds.. lightweight and hits reasonably deep. it's about same size and weight as the 705, +2db SPL, +400w RMS.

What is better 2pcs or rcf 705 or 1pcs of rcf 8003A
I brought one last year think i need another one! To be honest even sound out with tops, its a great 15" sub sounds great (705). Am sure the new 905 will beat alot of subs this year for sound quality (dsp)

both speakers with the same crossover frequency?
Try the RCF's with 90 instead of 110 Hz, sound will be not as loud but much deeper.

I had 1 cerwinvega cva121. I dj alone so that cerwin vega was to heavy for me. I sold it and bought 2 qsc181. My real opinion. Very disappointed ☹️. I heard so many good things about qsc181. 1 cerwinvega cva121 hits a lot harder than 2 qsc 181. Qsc very overpriced

I got to listen to the 181 & the new RCF 8003 as 2 side by side and wow that 18inch rcf is good i think the RCF just had it by a bit the 181 is a great sub too

I have two of the RCF subs. Coupled together they will outdo an 18 inch sub.
The RCF sub has 700 watts rms while the QSC has 1000 watts. That's not really a whole lot more. A 1400 watt amp would be a lot more because the speaker could possible output another 3db. Three decibels is noticeable.
I have heard both subs. They are both good.

Rms means continúes power when buying a power speakers look for rms not watts qsc is more powerful 2 kw181 is the way to go but just get ready for the weight on them

The QSC sounds a lot smoother with no distortion but rcf little bit louder but the speaker is distorting and no I'm not talking about the roof rattling you can hear the speaker like it's at its peak

Yes they do rcf subs seen to be having a lil bit of voice coming out of the subs i had the same pair n went with qsc solid bass just like yorkville is another good bass brand solid also

1 KW181 vs 2 RCF 705 AS II ? Who will win the battle? I'm asking this because, on paper, 1 KW 181 has 135 dB and 2 RCF 705 AS II have together 134 dB ... so considering this, 135 dB is louder than 134 dB.
so small difference that you wont notice it in any way. Also if you need all the 130db's from a single speaker i think your setup is completely wrong. 4 of the rcf's together really bump...and sound really good at the same time

I got two Samson Expedition old speakers need to do a small halloween party 150 ppl any recommendations for setup. Need the bass to hit hard. One subwoofer or two for small budget. I have the Rane one what wires would I need??

Ddj Marcus most bass Is mono on all music. Very very rare for it not to be so for this video it wouldn’t matter too much
QSC is an excellent amplifiers specialist , world N°2 after CROWN. Amplifier QSC is reliable, musical, dynamic and grow old relatively well. On no account QSC is a manufacturer of loudspeakers as JBL for example. It is not their work. The problem today it is because everybody wants to make everything.
You should play "going back to Cali" by llcool j to do a sound check. The Bass is way better

I'm still rockin' the RCF 705 mkII subs and I pair them with K8s... The sound is fantastic! They would sound even better with k10.2s!

jOHN ROTH, have you heard the BOSE F1 SUBS? i would love to hear your opinions on them. Lighter than the RCF's and bang almost as hard as the qsc 181! Use a BBE and crank up the F1 and I bet it beats that RCF sub.

I love how everyone is saying two Rcf subs will rock the 18 qsc. No freeking duh. Two gets better space coverage and less stress on each sub which means less peaking. Put two qscs against two of these rcfs and of course the qscs will sound better. Makes no sense people.

It's All on the quality of the speaker and so on and so on but 15 are good to direct the sound rite to the dance fall 18 are for really big halls or events I prefer 15"
Put a 18" RCF sub comparing to the 18" QSC and not the 15" sub and then let me know which one is the best ;)
Cost's difference is $350. That's not fair and ridiculous of comparing. Anyway, the RCF even beeing 15" sounds much better.
Qsc kw181 is a legend best sub oit there right now not comparing to the classic yorkville ls801 those a clubs subs but for mobil dj qsc 18 r the way to go not just for the dance for but for the entire hall is always good to have more bass when u need it then not having enough on ur gig

I'm still extremely happy with the RCFs. They're super reliable and fill the low end for most of the events I do. If I couple them together (side by side) they really pound!

Can you tell which one projects best bass in front as on the dance floor. From what I have seen with the 181, you don't get that much bass out in front, but you do get tremendous bass to the sides and back.
Rob Dixon for sure man. The qsc projects bass all over the place and the rcf tends to keep it in front and back
Yes, the RCFs definitely are much more musical and project the "tight" bass right in front. The QSC 181 explodes bass in every direction
Rcf is good for a small venues but out doors or a big gig u will need the qsc 181 they really do what they meant to do bass all around

I need your help.. Im getting the qsc sub,, but what about my tops... should i get the RCF 712a's or the kw 12's to go with them
definitely k12. I compared recently the K12 with RCF ART 715 mk 2 and K12 sounds better , the kick is better, the voice is more present, the dispersion better, you have tilt feature. The highs on the RFC are more shrill, harsh, strident than K12. In live application, the voice is clearer using K12, on the RCF 715 art mk 2 you have a WOOOUMM given by the resonance of the box. QSC sounds a little bit louder than RFC 715 mk 2. So probably the RCF 712 is weaker than 715. The only good thing for RCF 715 is that they sound warmer, since they have always a DSP on. I forgot to mention that the K12's BASS better than RCF 715 BASS ... even the 715 has a 15" woofer

I'll go slightly different.
The QSC sub does not have a "high pass out" because QSC put their x-over processing in the top box. Whereas RCF put the x-over in the sub.
I prefer the RCF way, but if you've chosen the QSC sub you should go with the qsc top also.
...And still 2020... RCF design /results.

Awesome! I hope you like the RCF 705s as much as I have. I put them about 12 o'clock for cocktails and 2 o'clock for dancing. There is a big difference between 12 and 2 and I never go past.
and if u put both your rcf side by side u get more db out of there its gona destroy the qsc

I can not compare because of the different spec. But sound quality for both are excellent. Now I am thinking about RCF sub 8004.
