I’m in the soprano section!! I remember Jeffery Redding telling us a story of a loved one he lost, and how this piece brought him comfort. Right before he began conducting, he pulled out a picture of that person and put it in his lapel next to his heart. I barely kept it together for this performance- one of the most moving musical moments of my life, and I’m so happy to have stumbled upon it 16 years later :’)
Mr. Ames wrote this song for a young lady who attended my high school, and the night we premiered it a really good friend of mine mom passed away. Talk about hard. But it was sooooo beautiful, and Mr.Ames is a musical genius.
1:53. Chills and tearing up EVERY time. This is such a beautiful piece and I plan to possibly teach my choir this when I become a teacher (that is my future goal of life). Wonderful composition!
i completely agree, i can't sing this song without getting choked up. I had the privilege of performing this song in the All City Music Festival in Omaha Nebraska, and Dr. Ames conducted the mass choir of all 7 highschool concert choirs. its was magnificent. the story behind this song is very touching as well. good job.
I had to sing this at my friends funeral!!! He was in my choir at the time that we sang it for an audience! I will never forget that moment! I am crying as I am writing this so...All I have to say is that this was a beautiful rendition!..........
In Remembrance! I sang this song with my choral group(Madrigals) in 2006! And like every other choir, we too cried our eyes out after rehearsing it before having to sing it in a huge competition! Oh it was BEAUTIFUL!
Jeffery Ames was the accompainist in my All-State choir this year! (Texas) We did "Let Everything That Hath Breath" i would have LOVED to do this one instead! BEAUTIFUL!!!!
I sang this song with the indiana all state choir, and omg. to be in the middle of 300+ people singing this is just so breath taking. the power, the emotion. truly amazing. it's like being in an ocean of sound and beauty, and just closing your eyes as the waves rush over you and take you under. you can feel it all around you like the oceans cold currents.
Performed by a wonderful choir...beautiful when everything comes together in harmony. The lyrics the melody capture what it feels like to lose a friend and or loved one...God have mercy on those of us left behind and mercy on those who have passed.
we sang this song last year for our choir. we all thought it was cool and 10 minutes before we were about to sing it for a festival, we were informed about the suicide of one our dear friends. this song has always had such a spiritual connection for me. everyone in that room cried, the choir, the audience, and even the judges. it was truly an amazing experience.
ive never cried over an all southwest tennesseee\ piece and last year we sung this sung and i absolutely cried...mr.jeffrery redding wasnt the condutor but he was our conductor a few weeks ago n he moved us all to tears
Wow. I can't believe someone posted this. Being in the 2005 ACDA NHC was one of the best experiences with choirs I've ever had. Redding is simply amazing. This is why I have continued my music studies. I love this song... I think about the rehearsal when he turned off the lights.. I think that rehearsal, with all of us together was the best we'd ever done it. Even better than what is posted here.
Uuniversity of Tampa Chorale is learning it now and one of the girls in the choir knew the people who the song was written and dedicated to prior to their deaths. It's so emotional in the classroom just listening to this piece and it's pieces like this that make me believe that I madce the wisest decision to choose choral music education for a major. I cannot wait to get my degree to make moments like this happen!! Bravo, ACDA Choir. This was just what I needed. =)
I absolutely LOVE this song!! It moves me to tears every single time I hear it. Also, Dr. Redding is an amazing honor choir clinician. I had the opportunity to work with him in two different honor choirs in high school. Thank you for posting this!! It is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!! :)
um wow. so i'm sitting here procrastinating on a paper in the last few weeks of my senior year of college and i just decided to search for this. i am SO glad someone else remembers how moving that experience was!
very good portrayal of this piece. you sing very well and your expressions fit the piece, of how even though something bad has happened, you know that something good will come out of it. very good dynamics. good job not having one group over power the other. love the male bass part the best ( i am a true female tener and this is my favorite song to sing, even though it is sad)
Hey! One of my great friends goes to UT and she sang this song with in my choir in high school! I'm also studying to be a choral music educator at Baldwin-Wallace Ohio and I totally agree with you about this song! It's nice to know that you are going to be a music educator and help people make moments like these!
from the composer: "In Remembrance is in response to the tragic accident that took the lives of Dr. William Potts, Becca his daughter, and Anna his youngest daughter on July 4, 2002. Bill was a choral parent and Becca was one of my students during my tenure as Director of Choral Activities at Lincoln High School in Tallahassee, Florida. This piece is written in their memory and dedicated to the surviving members of the immediate family."
how funny! i sang this at UM choral camp with Jeffrey Redding as well. i was watching the video and i was like that looks like him, then i read the side bar. he is the best! :) and i absolutely love this song, thought of it and searched for it here, since my grandmother passed recently.
Actually, the song was written for a student in Ames choir, Becca Potts, who died in a car crash with the rest of her family except her mother on the 4th of July. Our choir sang the song last year because the choir director who took over for Ames also knew Becca. Half our choir started crying singing it onstage.
I don't know what experience exactly you're referring to, but back in Mississippi Chorale Fest of 07 (I think) we got to sing this as a mass choir with Dr. Ames directing. This was the most moving piece for sure. It was absolutely wonderful.
wow you guys are amazing! My choir is auditioning for the 2009 ACDA Convention, but a) it'd be a pain to travel there, and b) if we're going up choirs like yours, damn...
That's interesting... Our choir sang this song last week and also performed a song called "Portones Abiertos y Rostros Brillantes" by a composer named Paul Basler.
@marshallpveasey I was so there! How likely is that huh? It was so much fun but we didn't sing it this good unfortunately. Still though, it was pretty good. I hope someone puts our performance up.
@OcarinaBrothers I was a baritone, though I sung bass at some parts. Yeah, something went all funky during the performance, but overall it still sounded sweet!
I cannot believe this is on youtube!! This was my senior year...I was on the top row of the second alto section. This brings back so many great memories! Do you have any other pieces from that concert on here??
@OcarinaBrothers row 13 seat 29 on the left. So, kinda. We probably were talking to the same people. Because everyone around me, including that direction, were all kind of a conglomerate group.
That's so cool! :D What's their name? The education part of my degree is really the one thing ticking me off now (due to stupid scheduling complications). But I hope that in the end when I recieve my degree everything will have been worth it. :]
@Jlow211 Actually no... According to Dr. Ames himself, when he was living and teaching in Florida, two of his students were killed in a car accident. He struggled with the pain and turned to music in order to help quell the pain. This song takes you through the stages of grief, from despair to anger to hope/peace/acceptance. You are correct that it has nothing to do with 9/11, but you need to get some facts straight. Know before you post please.
@rideREDLINE225 Actually no... It's written for a four year old and her family who died in a car accident. The man who wrote this song is expressing his anger and rage to God for how he could let this happen, but he also forgives God, because he knows they're in a better place. This has nothing to do with 9/11 and if you have ever sang the original piece, you know the background. Know before you post please.

i sang this for two different honor choirs, and then my honor choir at school.
i cried and/or got goosebumps every time we sang it..
i love it!

i sang this at a funeral with my choir....very moving song.

Incredible. I heard a choral clinic sing this piece a few years ago, and I fell in love with it. Beautiful rendition.
In Remembrance! I sang this song with my choral group(Madrigals) in 2006! And like every other choir, we too cried our eyes out after rehearsing it before having to sing it in a huge competition! Oh it was BEAUTIFUL!

We did "Let Everything That Hath Breath"
i would have LOVED to do this one instead!
BEAUTIFUL!!!!
I sang this in the Iowa State University Honor Choir in 2008, under the direction of Dr. James Rodde. Amazing song! It's very moving.
This is one of the best performances of this piece I’ve ever heard! You can hear the emotion behind every lyric! Great job choir!!

I've never been moved to tears before. But the first time I heard this song, I was sobbing buckets.
I am in this choir. Very emotional experience this was for most of us. Some of us were balling our eyes out during the performance!
This song brought tears to my eyes while I was singing it at the DSU Honor Choir...truely beuatiful and the words are so simple yet powerful!
This is by far my favorite of all the choral songs I have performed. And this is by far one of the best recordings I have heard of it. Amazing.
Played the piano for my high school choir singing this. Absolutely amazing!! Such moving piece to be a part of.
We sang this in class today! SO BEAUTIFUL!

I wish I could've seen the conductor more. He looked awesome. Everyone sang with feeling. Ah. Perfect.
My heart goes out to you! Beautiful tribute!

Bravo. this was really nice
Does everyone know that this song was written in memory of September 11, 2001? It really changes the way you look at the song.
rideREDLINE225 even if it wasn't the original intent of the piece that is a very touching way to look at it
cool! me too im excited! cant wait!
@Choirkid55 i was in that choir!

@MackenzieNeon same here lol
This is the national honor choir not a high school choir.
@rideREDLINE225 Actually no... It's written for a four year old and her family who died in a car accident.
