What they obviously couldn't abide was being exposed for having done so, and the implications in the eyes of the world. What we know now, is that the Bush regime was corrupt and as subsequent politicians also became by supporting a coverstory of disclosure as espionage instead of disclosure as evidence of 'war crimes'
