For anyone who wants an easier method that is less messy and doesn't require you to have garlic, just crack the egg shell in half and pour the yolk from one shell half to the other back and forth. The whites will slowly drip out into a bowl while the yolk eventually becomes all that's left in the shell.

I use the tip shell to shell method unless I’m doing a bunch of eggs, which I only really do if I’m baking and then I don’t want to use the garlic method because there’s nothing worse than a garlic flavoured meringue.
