Im sure some would argue, but grime came from uk garage/2step. But yea mc culture in the uk has been around a minute, we could trace it back to the early 90's and the hardcore scene (and to be honest the rave scene took a lot from old dub reggae sound system culture). the mc would just be there to keep the crowd hype whilst the dj plays. long story short that evolved and collected other influences like american hip hop, amongst others, and became more lyrical over time and branched off a few different ways. P Money absolutely kills d&b too. Bit of a vague explanation but good enough to get started. might be cool to take a listen to a tune - pay as you go cartel, champagne dance in my head thats a pretty good example of how grime was emerging from the garage scene. anyway I hope you get to read this and dive into the rabbit hole.
Love your reactions. Like the way a Scientist would break down DNA. You know the art inside and out. April 28th You'll have an actual song to breakdown
Grime and Dubstep both grew out of UK Garage in the early 2000s, they're kinda musical brothers. Both are 140bpm, grime focused more on the MC's, whereas dubstep focused on the instrumentals, although there are a lot of cool tracks that sit somewhere in the middle with dubstep instrumentals and grime style mc'ing over the top, and it's very common to have a grime style mc at dubstep events in the UK. The original/UK dubstep sound is very different from the EDM style that you probs think of as dubstep, would be very interesting to watch you react to some of those OG dubstep/grime crossover tracks, they're like nothing you'll have ever heard before, a very sick niche of UK MC culture that not a lot of US reactors ever find their way into
P Money has always been my favourite and I’ll say this now, I guarantee that he’s watched this and loved your opinion and the appreciation u show for the culture. I wouldn’t be surprised if he tweets u or shouts u out cause that’s how real down to earth he is.
Him and Ghetts had THE most legendary rap beef the UK has ever had, they were both so good there is still no offical winner to this day, U ask 100 ppl who won it will be 50/50 everytime. go check the diss records hey had at least 2 each
Big D keeping it real for real, P Money is a legend of Grime and so happy to see you celebrating true grime artists coz they be real spitters. P Money - stuttering ft Chip, Dizzee Rascal and d Double all legends and I'm sure you haven't reacted to any Dizzee tunes yet and he is one of the foundation stones for Grime and still one of the best, can't wait 🔥🔥🔥🔥
When he talks about dubstep he’s not talking about the skrillex type American dubstep but the dubstep that originated in London, my understanding is that it’s inspired by Jamaican dub, heavy emphasis on sub bass Listen to oh lord by mala if you want a good example of what I consider to be dubstep, like grime it shares the 140bpm and synthesised sounds
In terms of grime beats there is a wide range of types of grime beats within grime that have certain sounds. Im a grime kid, grew up on it and in it. There certain types within it that i never liked, like the 2 step, garage house sounds. I love the sub low, melodic beats. Some seriously greezy beats in grime and some seriously shit ones lol Reason being there was a lot of experimenting and meshing of different sounds and a lot of beats were made on Playstation 2 back in 02 - 04 times so some very simple beats. Check out top 20 grime instrumentals which will give you a good feel of some of the best grime beats made over the last 20 years!
Ghetts mentions P in a freestyle which P took for a send.. the diss tracks that followed.. P Money - GRM Gold freestyle Ghetts - All Black Winter Ghetto vs Ghetts and P Money P Money - War Dub P Money - The Warning Ghetts - The destruction of Eiffel tower
I need this from the Big Dipper, nobody is giving Ocean Wisdom any love and he is legit to 10 UK spitter and crossed over with Meth outta Wu Tang with - Ting Dun
By far the best reaction channel, your knowledge and recognition for the bits that most people miss is great. Think you would love Kano, home sweet home album is one of the best grime albums ever.
These are all classic grime flows. P money is a pioneer in this but there's a whole rabbit whole of flows and artists to go down. And we're here for it!
It’s so refreshing to see someone actually break down what it is that makes grime grime. It’s also mad that you get it more than some guys from the UK.
Yoo loved the reaction man p money is just too sick fr, more of his stuff you should check out would be: while you wait EP road rage 1&2 p money vs dot rotten p money vs ghetts no one pain what you want Shh hut yuh mout buss a red sorry I'm not sorry high road (he's a ft on this one alongside 2 other goats Frisco and Dizzie rascal ) And this isn't even half his tunes there's plenty more So take your pick 👍
THIS. IS. REAL. GRIME. Grime is also the energy. Yes its alot of synthetic but its alot of variation. You should react to JME Skepta's brother. A great place to start would be JME and Skepta - That's not me. It's like the UK's 2nd national Anthem.
I can see you really appreciate the music and the attitude of the sound an I know you can’t do a reaction to everything but I wish I could see your reaction to everything 😂 it’s so pure. It reminds me of the first time I heard it. I can never relive that emotion but seeing you get gassed off it reminds me how I felt.
Thank you so much for giving this freestyle the respect it deserves! 🙏....do you know I once recommended this to a reactor and all they did was shot on it because of the beats? 😩🤦♀️....made me feel old af ffs! 🙄😑
big up for doing this one bro. You gotta check out the P money vs Dot rotten beef, its the best lyrical clash in UK grime ever imo. Dot rotten - Organised grime freestyle (P money diss) is a good place to start 🔥
Really looking forward to you digging into Bugzy Malone. Don't dismiss him off the generic name (like I did for awhile after getting into this UK hip hop scene). Start with M.E.N. (Manchester Evening News) part 1.
This is grime 140bpm ( 138-145 ) in the UK we grew up listen to MC’s on pirate radio station and the beats the DJ would Mix together or just drop a next beat in and Mc’s would ride the vibe with 8,16 or 32 bars each going back and fourth
He's from Nottingham not London. Absolute G, so glad you did this one his beat and track switch matching is elite. His track "where n when" I really like. Best reactor hands down K!
yeah a lot of overlap between Dubstep and grime - both come from 2-step/ UK garage and Jungle but Grime focusses on the MC and Dubstep is largely instrumental. both around 140bpm - but Dubstep has the kick and snare at half speed to give it that lope, and typically brings in elements from dub reggae. All that (shit) Dubstep that took over in the US by people like skrillex essentially was nicked from UK producers like Caspa and Rusko. The two genres grew up together and informed each other.
I loved this reaction. I watched the full 54:35. p money is so talented. what a freestyle. also, that bar about the “road” you mentioned at 49:00 is a triple entendre, because the “road” in the uk can be like what gangsters are on in the hood. as in “he’s on road”, like he’s involved with illegal activities and/or gangs etc.
P Money is the ONLY One to ever go toe to toe with Ghetts and actually more than held his own (and this coming from someone who believes Ghetts is the GOAT)
Before you do Ghetts vs P Money i think you need to get to grime Ghetts first, because you havent really done a grime Ghetts reaction yet, so you dont jump straight into cold water. "Ghetts puts the grime scene on hold" is my suggestion. The energy is crazy. This is what grime is about.
Love this reaction. If you haven't already since this video you need to react to p money vs ghetts (multiple diss tracks back and forth), p money vs big H (live stage clash at lord of the mics) and p money vs dot rotten (multiple diss tracks back and forth).
Math Hoffa and Method Man were talking about in the day, it was who was nice on the mic, and that's all that matter if you were an aspiring rapper, it's "Yo, who's nice?" not "who got game". Thankfully this is still the case in the 🇬🇧 I think we can't deny that the rave culture here in the UK influenced that faster grime beat and the faster bars. Also, we don't get enough sunshine to be rocking like the US West Coast or Southern Sound.
Bro you should react too Ed Sheeran ft P Money - Family. It’s from back in 2011 when Ed was doing a lot of grime features, he done a Ep called No.5 Collaborations features Ghetts, Wiley, JME, Wretch 32, Dot Rotten etc.. 🔥🔥🔥
React to Top 20 grime instrumentals, will give you a good feel for grime beats. And then check out some ghetts devlin live sets to really get the vibe of what grime is

P-Money vs Dot rotten, one of the best UK beefs you could react to! 👌

Don’t think you could’ve broke this down any better 👏
I would add dub and jungle as other influences but uk garage for sure is the main one.
@@TheYBGOON and a few words about sound systems, big ups Mala 😂
I agree but i also thought as grime spread north of london the midlands and stuff produced some great grime tunes around the late 2000’s
