  • Social security is a program that has been around since 1935 and provided more than 72 million Americans benefits in March! The new 2024 Social Security Trustees Report states that by 2035, social security trust funds will be exhausted...and unless congress acts, would only be able to cover up to 83% of benefits owed to people who are retired or people with disabilities. "I think that is a very scary reality. I think that a lot of the safe holds that hold people up when they are in times of need are very necessary," said Juan Mauro, a resident in Pinellas County.

How is social security getting low. It should be put aside under each of our names. Social security should only be used for people who put into it.

Because the politicians keep taking from it to " temporarily shore up" something or other.
And now the boomers and GenX is retiring. Over 57% of the American population . And they are fighting tooth and nail to deny it to many. Over technicalities.

Correct. All empires come and they go. Usually for the same reasons. The US is spending almost a trillion dollars a year on its military. The infrastructure is falling apart. The country is 34 trillion in debt. The billionaire class pays virtually no taxes, they store their money in tax havens. The middle class is gone. Currently eight thousand Americans die every day! Approximately three million a year. It's not a question "if" the US empire crumbles, it's "when".

Sorry to rain on your rugged individualism gospel. Let's say tomorrow you become disable from a injury or a sickness. You can't work. You find out that overpriced health insurance policy you cherish, with its high co-pays and deductibles, stops paying becomes of the hidden caps they on benefits. You exhaust all your savings. What would you do? You'll apply for unemployment benefits, early Social Security, possibly disability, Medicaid, Food Stamps, and finally you'll file for bankruptcy. This scenario happens to over seven hundred, thousand Americans every year. It could happen to you. Currently eight thousand Americans die every day in the US. Approximately three million a year. 70% of the population makes less than thirty thousand a year. Out of the 37 richest countries in the world. The US is the only country without free, universal health care for all of its citizens. In the 1960's LBJ tried to pass Medicare for all. The Insurance rackets fought it tooth and nail. Medicare did pass for people 65 and over. This immediately saved the lives of millions American seniors. Today Medicare is privatized, except Medicare part A. Currently 69% of the wealth in the US is inherited, going back to 1776 the wealth generated by founding revolutionary slave plantations. Most new wealth generated today in the US is made by Wallstreet, Hollywood, Professional sports, Fossil fuel industry, big pharmaceuticals, the military industrial war complex, arms manufacturers.

Not really a solution since with rising inflation its no longer considered as rich as it would have been 30 years ago. This applies even more to those who have a single person working feeding 5 people or more. Those kinds of people are living in what we would view as upper middle class. Not filthy rich though.
