This band always creates a great atmosphere for the story they're trying to tell. And as far as I've been able to find, the guy that writes the music looks mostly to primary sources for those stories. I'm no black metal purist, and I'd even say that I'm generally not a fan of black metal. There are some real gems that do shine through, though. Black metal is big on creating an atmosphere, and I really, really appreciate those bands that manage to create an atmosphere that I actually feel. Kanonenfieber is one, and another one that I like (but is much less active) is Minenwerfer.
Eel is a nickname for a Torpedo. This song is basicly about an U Boat that fucks up it's calculations and sends an "Eel" (Torpedo) into the wrong direction and after realizing and trying to get away the engine breaks down. The second song on this EP called "die Havarie" is basicly the continuation of this U boats story. If you wanna read about it it's the story of UB 2 (U boat 2) on wikipedia.
Great song, love the composition and heaviness and driving power of the instruments. Vocals are good and the lyrics (once you translate them) are cool and tell a good tale of the life and death of a submarine and crew. There is a lyric video of this song (in English and Duetsch) that features images of what appear to be WW1 submarines.
