Lol this is a great Corny rant. I've always had the impression you had to introduce yourself to everyone and shake hands. Sounds like it's a rib that's ended up being an expectation now.

The loose sloppy handshake is one of the silliest traditions I remember & have never understood (meant you're a light worker), you're not shaking hands with a baby so give a nice snug firm grip handshake like a gentleman & look them in the eye & introduce yourself 🤝

I can’t remember where I heard it but I also heard that you had to shake everyone’s hand too! I would just use common sense - don’t approach the guys/girls who looked like they were busy and/or didn’t want to be disturbed, and only shake hands with those that made eye contact and actually seemed open for greeting! I’ve never been big on handshakes in the first place….

I Indy wrestled from 03-07, nothing outside of a few mediocre feds in and around NJ, but this is absolutely true even in small settings. I've watched people get shunned from a fed because they didn't Shake hands, or the right ones at least. You want to hear more bonkers? There was a backyard fed I went to before I went pro, they were mad i didnt shake hands and never asked me back lol. I was 15 at the time like "We're wrestling on a trampoline" lmao

I wouldn’t shake Sparky Bob Holly Plug’s hand either. That guy wants to be Taker so bad. Meanwhile the only time anyone paid any attention to him was for like a year in the attitude era when he was teamed up with Crash. Wasn’t long though before Crash became the popular one with the 24/7 hardcore title thing and Bob faded back into obscurity. Why he feels he’s owed all of this respect is 🤯. Especially when no one’s ever turned on Raw or Smackdown to watch Bob Holly compete. No one ever bought a ticket to a SMW show or a WWE show to see Bob. When Bob Holly came on that was your cue to go to the bathroom or go get popcorn or whatever. The whole tough guy thing was always funny too considering you never heard of him putting the hands to any of the big guys that got out of line. He laughed off Brock breaking his neck but beat Renee Dupree, a guy who has made it clear that he isn’t and wasn’t a fighter, up over a parking ticket. Had that been a little guy or a jobber Bob would’ve killed him. And now Bob’s gone and no one mentions him anymore unless it’s to talk about how big of a pos he was. Great legacy Bob 😂

    - The Original Sheik was infamous for staying in character; especially in public places where he insisted on keeping his heelish gimmick up.
Long story short, a fan once sneaked backstage, came across The Sheik and said "hey Ed (Sheik's real name), how's it going?". The Sheik became enraged
and grasped his hands around the fan's neck; strongly urging the fan to never call The Sheik by his real name ever again.

This reminds me so much of being in the Army. In particular, going to your first duty station after basic/AIT. You’re so uptight, because you just did 20+ weeks of everything being pure military standards. Then you get to your unit, and it’s a whole new world.
You have Specialist telling you to go to parade rest when talking to them (which is a rib), and Sergeants who are chill and keep to themselves. The true mindgames is with senior NCOs. You have some that want you to seek them out and greet them, while others will straight up say “you’re not in my platoon, until that changes, never speak to me again.” Then you have senior NCOs (not in your immediate chain of command) that shoot the shit with you, and talk to you like they’re your brother.

I did the same but everyone still called me by my gimmick name lol. I stopped eventually cause the “top guys/veterans” ego started inflating , I wasn’t rocking with that bs especially with so much to do setting up the ring and shit. Mfs passive aggressively called me superstar like that shit phased me 😂

During the time I was going to wrestling school I was told on my first day when you're meeting everybody you should go and introduce yourself to everybody and give the firm handshake but after that you just show up and a "hey" will suffice.

This whole shake hands ritual seems like the sort of thing that could be squashed easily by an outsider in a high position like Nick Kahn, if they don't have any patience for bullshit. After the third day of every idiot in the arena interrupting him to shake his hand he would go "why the hell are all of you bugging me over nothing?! Stop it!" and then it would just go away. So when Vince dies and the WWE is sold, hope the person assigned to be in charge is a jerk boss that doesn't care if people like him and these things will just disappear. In general I imagine a lot of weird WWE-isms will disappear once there's no Vince McMahon to be afraid of.
