Man...this video was so beautiful. So many mixed emotions watching this. Admiration of the respect for elders brought tears to my eyes..then feeling a bit sad for the west. Imagine if children in the west were taught respect for elders and the other lessons from Songkran..how would our crime rates look? How would family relations look? Again, wonderfully done video.

Very interesting and I see many similarities with our Sri Lankan new year traditions. Here too it is a time when families come together for the first meal of the new year consisting of milk rice cooked at an auspicious time and many sweetmeats. After this children offer a sheaf of betal leaves to their parents and bow to them the same way you did with the water and receive their blessings in return. People also go to the temple and offer yellow and white flowers to the Buddha. We also have the same tree that Otis was playing with the floating seeds and the one with the hanging yellow flowers. Sooo sweet when Hugo wanted to feed Tiss the mulberry. Lovely vlog and happy Songkran ❤🎉

Ahh real traditional song kran..far from the tourist drunk mayhem in the citys..i used to flee krungthep every songkran to Phetchabun in central Thailand where they did the same Buddhistic traditions.
ok some kids with water guns is fun and play and all smiles but not the full water war like in Touristplaces =)

My Saturday night Songkran in Chiang Mai was a lot more ruckus I came home smiling and soaking wet.

This is one of two important events during the khmer new year, not the water fight. In Buddha preaching, there are water and fire representing the world of people. Fire means angry or negative. And water means cool or positive. They are parts of Budha living. You can see this practice all over Thailand and Cambodia.

Happy Songkran and Khmer New Year…I spent mine in my wife’s village in Cambodia. We do similar things there, suot mon, tak baat, etc but one thing different from celebrating in Thailand is in Cambodia they welcome one of the Thevada’s coming to visit Cambodia at a certain date and time (I think 10:17pm). Every house will have offerings, and this year dried meat because of the particular Thevada.
