Tommy is the best all around Guitarist in the World,( and maybe ever) and I've heard them all and have mastered none of them, but can tell you I refused to make this statement until I was 68 yrs old and started playing when I was 10 yrs old. Thank You Tommy for your love and passion of making beautiful music, for us all to enjoy and enlighten our lives.
The thing about Emmanuel that makes him one of the best ever is how sincerely unassuming and free of ego he is. He plays a gorgeous "Mona Lisa" and let's rip with harp harmonics and blazing muted arpeggios and afterwards as we've got tears welling up in our eyes he's like "See? Now you." He genuinely believes because he can play that way if you work at it enough you can too. It's such a beautiful trait and who knows, he could be working us and saying those things because he knows how humble and righteous it will make him appear but the fact that he does it, consciously or not, is huge. A true giant of the guitar, to us players he's revered but like Gatton to the general public he's next to unknown. I hope eventually he gets the accolades he deserves, of course they'll likely come after he's gone, but that's just the way human beings are. Long live Tommy...
“All I had to do was figure it out, practice it and now I can do it without even thinking about it“…My goodness, that’s all, that’s it, easy! Yeah right, now that I realize what a hack I was on the guitar, allow me to thank you very much for sharing this post-this man is fantastic. I didn’t know the first thing about how to play the guitar. I’m so glad I have an excuse, now.
This is a more than MASTERFUL PLAYING. I am 63 started playing at 62 to save my sanity. IT WORKS I practice everyday. How does he play like this? His playing is beyond Impossible and now I will never feel I am good enough or have learned all there is to learn. A Blessing
+David Braithwaite I'm 35 and will never run a 100 metres as fast as Usain Bolt, no matter how hard I train. Some people are just above what us mere mortals can ever achieve. But that shouldn't stop us from trying our best to be the best WE can be in our chosen pursuit. Continue to enjoy your practice and love every note you play. Good luck to you!
David, just enjoy the journey. I'm 68 and playing a few years. Just last night, noodling I said to myself "I feel like I'm getting a little tone". Great feeling!
Tommy is the best! I loved hearing him play Yankee doodle and Dixie at the same time... I saw Lenny Breau do that a looonng time ago! ( he also learned it from Chet)
Great insights into guitar technique and his great version of Day Tripper. All his videos are awesome, and if you get the chance to experience him live - don't miss it! He is blessed with an incredible gift! Glen Anderson
Where he's talking about (and demonstrating) Chet Atkins talking about playing 2 songs at once.........there was a guy named Ronnie Prophet who also did that, while singing Silent Night at the same time. Mind boggling to me that people can separate their brain like that.
+EclecticHillbilly Gosh that made me laugh out loud ...while singing "Silent Night" ! : > ) Can that be found on youtube? I searched Ronnie Prophet but couldn't seem to find it.
My dear old Dad and I would watch him in the pubs whenever he came to Sydney. Most people don't know he's a pretty good drummer too. How annoying is that?
Got a good reason, for taking the easy way out Got a good reason, for taking the easy way out, now She was a day..... tripper, one way ticket, yeah! It took me so..... long, to find out, and I found out
Funny thing is that he actually had three other guys behind a curtin playing with him. Right? I mean like no one musician can actually play like that. Not humanly possible.
They "don't know how to breath correctly while they're playing" for a very good reason; guitar is powered purely by the hands, not the breath, and so naturally it doesn't require any particular way of breathing. In other words, "breath correctly while they're playing" is not a thing, unless of course, they are also singing or playing an instrument that is powered by breath. There are enough things to coordinate in order to play well, without over-complicating it worrying about nonsense s like "am I breathing properly?"
Disagree @@Gregorypeckory. Some of us hold our breath causing tension. Tension kills timing and flow. Your music will sound much better if you consciously monitor your breathing. Just as in any endeavor.
I've just posted a video lesson explaining how to play everything Tommy played here. Ok no I just posted a video on how to play the beginning of jingle bell rock. Easy version. That's a lot like what he's doing here.
Tommy: It’s not brain surgery
Brain Surgeon: How’d he just do that?

Tommy is just ridiculous . One of the greatest players to ever grab a guitar.

He is just scary good . What a master musician .

Up there with Chet Atkins and Albert Lee as the best Cut time guitarists ever . And he's an Aussie ( sort of ) !

Chumley Shaver I saw him do it once years ago but I've never been able to find a clip of it. Wish I could; it was fun.

I think a lot of guitarists dont know how to breath corectly while theyre playing. Singing helps this
They "don't know how to breath correctly while they're playing" for a very good reason; guitar is powered purely by the hands, not the breath, and so naturally it doesn't require any particular way of breathing. Yeh, think like a singer.
Won't somebody tune that damn guitar for him?
после него уже все унылые и скучные -совсем неинтересно слушать -TOMMY SYPER
Guitars in the bin LOL
I´ve never really liked his lady Madonna, its to many notes in some of the segments. But that is just my opinion.
