@juliabishop1408 that was my original plan but my friends had a different idea... which is why I've started cooking early today. I'm making Beef Wellington and everyone else is bringing something equally yummy to share. (I made macarons earlier this week for our dessert.)
Eva (and of course, her hair) are fabulous normally. Tipsy Eva is next level fabulous!!!! LOVE THIS!!!!! We need her on "Drunk History - Italy!!" to continue telling us about Garibaldi!
LIttle fun fact: I live a couple hundred meters from where the Campari factory was located. The factory is now closed, and they built a large semiluxury condominium and a public garden in its place. There are also the Campari offices, a little museum, and the mansion where the Campari family lived (Casa alta) which has been turned into a restaurant, and on the top floor hosts a bartending school. But when the factory was still working a couple times a week it stank up the whole neighborhood! Also, if you really want to make a video on aperitivo, you really ned to come to Milano. You should tour the places where we go for aperitivo: Tender Bar, Mono, Tempio d'Oro, Frida for the places where common people go, and Cantine Isola, Lacerba, and Terrazza Aperol for a bit of history and luxury (or pretentiousness in the case of Terrazza Aperol). Harper, Cynar Spritz has lime, the Select version instead has olives.
Those oranges are Navels. Designed to be peeled and eaten, so they are dryer. The orange called Valencia is very juicy and designed for juicing and drinking. 😉
Not in AZ. I lived there for 5 years and never had a good orange. I am convinced the best oranges come from Florida. When I was in the Navy in Med we got orange from Ledanom were excellent too. It's a shame what is happening there now
And Eva was right about Garibaldi unifying the world - bcs he was in South America, Brasil, too, trying to help the rebels there. Eva is a wonderful teacher, tipsy or not. And we enjoyed the tipsy version a lot 😍
OK so I just finished up a New Years Eve drinking fest with friends here in Sri Lanka. Out of curiosity I decided to watch Harper and Eva drink some bevies. Eva, by the finish of the video, is in exactly the same state as I am as I write this. So Happy New Year Harper and Eva, and Happy New Year to all the Pasta Grammar fans around the globe!
The Italian drinker's pro tip: if you arrive late to a party and you want to catch up quickly without throwing shots down the drain, have one or two Negroni, you'll feel buzzed the right amount and you'll be sure you'll be around the same level as the other earlier guests lol. Auguri gente! Passate un buon San Silvestro e primo dell'anno!
Day drinking on New Year's Eve. My kinda people. I'm not a peanut fan, but I do remember them being on bars. I think what made American bars give them up is the mess, plus the delicate Americans and their peanut allergies. Now I can really get with chips and olives. Eva a little loosened is still Eva, and she doesn't even lose her english. I'm impressed. Ok, the Garabaldi let me know I can understand more Italian than I thought. Probably mostly food and drinks. Brava, Eva, you are an impressive bartender! And thank you for the history lesson, I learned more than food and drink. And I'm not teasing you. Grazie!
I loved it, history in cocktails, amazing! Eva, about Garibald he was in Brazil and took up Rio Grnade do Sul cause, he joined rebels fight to separate Rio Grande do Sul from Brazil. Besides that he married a Brazilian rebel, Anita.
I had neither Aperol nor Campari at hand, but you inspired me to make a southern European New Year's cocktail with prosecco, Pellegrino and homemade guignolet (a strong French dessert wine flavoured with plenty of cherry leaves), plus a slice of a Spanish orange. Cheers and Gott nytt år from Sweden
Happy new year! I'm a big Giuseppe Garibaldi fan, for two reasons: I competed in bearding in the Verdi/Garibaldi category, and because I lived in south Brazil. The whole video I was yelling "AND HE WENT TO BRAZIL!" while my wife rolled her eyes, so I'm glad Eva added that bit at the end.
Buon Anno! Thanks for the introduction to Italian cocktails. I was with the American Air Force stationed at Brindisi in the 1970s where I was introduced to a variety of Campari drinks. I really fell in love with Campari and have been drinking it on occasion ever since. Until recently it's been the only "Italian" drink, other than wine, I've ever had. However, recently I've discovered a local restaurant here in my mid-sized West Coast city that serves a selection of over 50 different amari from all over Italy and beyond. I would love to learn more about them if you can find the space in your fun and wonderful RUclips channel. Ciao.
15:33 Non sapevo che questo si chiamasse Garibaldi. Qui in Germania lo chiamano semplicemente “Campari-Orange” e io lo trovo veramente molto gradevole. L’ho sempre preso con piacere in qualche bar.
My father was part Italian and introduced my younger siblings and I to wine from about 5 years old. I hasten to add the amount of wine was minuscule- about the size of a pea - well mixed with soda water or lemonade. As we grew older the amount of wine very slowly increased and as the soda water etc very slowly decreased. I still prefer to drink my wine mixed with lemonade. My brother sister and I all prefer to drink wine this way - it looks as though you have a glass full of wine but in reality it is barely a thimbleful. 😊😊😊😊 I also agree about the Italian way of having a drink and food together. Here in the UK the habit is simply to go for a drink which can lead to binge drinking. 😔😔😔😔
All the Garibaldi moments of the video are priceless!!! The explanations from Eva about his role in Italy unification and South America revolutions (Venezuela if I am not mistaken) are very true and meaningful, despute the tipsy context! Anyways a very interesting and different video about Italian cuisine. The aperitivo culture is really important.
What a wonderful way to end one year and start another: a tipsy Eva. The deliciously delightful, always amusing Italian sweetheart brings a new level of enjoyment after a few Italian cocktails. Thank you both for an informative and totally entertaining video. A happy new year to you and best wishes for continued success, health, happiness, and love in the new year and beyond. 🎉
😅 Eva dropping history tid bits while tipsy,Love! ❤ in Mexico we have a Plaza Garibaldi where Mariachis “unify” (Get together) and play music. Happy New Year guys 🎉
I really loved watching you guys in 2023. I thought it was very special when you were in Italy. Those were my favorite episodes of all. I hope you guys go back again next summer and do the same thing. Thank you for what you do happy new year.
I wanna party with Harper and Eva!! Nothing crazy, just a relaxed, buzzy evening, listening to both of your stories. Happy New Year to the two of you and your families.
Great video. One can get 3 or 4 items and have a ton of different drinks. Loved it. Time to celebrate. May both of you have an amazing New Year and we will be right there with you.
❤🤣♥️🤣♥️🤣♥️🤣 Oh my goodness this is the best!!!! You guys are wonderful!!!! Harper, I hope you have a clue how lucky you are!!! Happy New Year!!!! Keep them coming!!! Bravo Pasta Grammar!!! 🤣🤣🤣♥️♥️♥️
based on places I've worked: Bar snacks are salty to encourage customers to buy more drinks... bars stopped putting them out... because hygiene (like mints in old diners -- use the spoon!) I worked at one place that would offer small "individual" snack bowls... if you order a drink and then toss out what wasn't eaten
What Harper call Ava’s drunken rants made complete sense, if you know a little Italian History, BRAVA Ava❤ also love all those drinks and happy new year to you both🎉
20:32 GARIBALDI is very well known in Mexico, because there is a plaza in his honor in Mexico City. What makes Plaza Garibaldi very special is that it’s widely known as a hub for mariachi bands, and many cantinas, and restaurants. Cheers for Garibaldi.!
Happy new year!!! 🎉 And another fun fact: About the Garibaldi in a Mexican glass? There’s even more to it… so it turns out that Garibaldi’s grandson fought during the Mexican Revolution, and now the very famous mariachi square in Mexico City is named “Plaza Garibaldi”… so there’s that 🇮🇹🇲🇽 chin chin y salud!! 🥂
Happy New Year to my favorite couple on You Tube. As an Italian I appreciate that you show foods from different regions in Italy, best of luck to you both in your future endeavors.
Finally!!! I’ve been WAITING for the cocktail content from you!! Thank you! Also, partition to have Eva call all the ingredients in Italian so we can learn more vocabs 🙏🙏🙏
This was great. I would love another video on some of the other amari. There are so many of them it would be great to see a general study of them. Another idea for a video is to show how Italians use spirits in desserts. I remember the anise smell from wafer cookies when I was growing up and assume now that it was sambuca. It would be great to see some dessert recipes that use Italian spirits to perfume the treats.
Such a fun video! I love how silly you guys got -especially Eva- after sampling all of the cocktails. Thank you guys for a great year of amazing recipes and history and laughs! Looking forward to watching what you’ll come up with in 2024! Happy New Year! 🥳🎉💖
Wow l’intelligenza di Eva mi lascia sempre a bocca aperta 💓 ed Harper è troppo simpatico e carino 🥰 ottima idea quella di fare una puntata sui cocktail, non immaginavo la storia dell’Americano. You guys are fantastic, happy new year 🥳
GARIBALDI!!!! 35 years later, I learn what my dad used to drink is called Garibaldi! Since we like citruses and bitters, is there a drink with grapefruit?
03:50 a proper *Spritz* is so fresh, so good! I prefer mine with 4 parts wine + 2 parts Aperol, and just a drop of sparkly water, because I love the taste of prosecco! Spritz is like Mojito: when it’s good, you love it! But when it’s bad, you can't even drink it! Those last 4 minutes of complete madness ... spot on! 😂😂 Happy New Year guys 🎉
YESSSSS. This is the episode I've been wanting for so long! Also, I would absolutely love to hear Eva talk about aperitivi/amari. Also, you gotta try all those drinks, but with Cocchi di Torino. It's got a really beautiful vanilla flavor. My favorite vermouth to throw in an Americano, for sure.
@@samipratt1279 It's not the same, though. Cocchi is more floral and sweet, where Carpano is more herbal and bitter. I love both, but I think they are suited to different cocktails. For me, for example, I find that I enjoy Cocchi in an Americano more so than Carpano, but definitely prefer Carpano for things like a Manhattan.
Enjoyed the video and a very Happy New Year to you both. In fact, thanks for all your videos during the year, you’re quite inspiring! I think you’ll find that bar snacks have mostly disappeared because (generally) men don’t wash their hands when they go to the loo! 😮
Wszystkiego najlepszego w Nowym Roku! (Happy New Year!) Loved watching you two enjoy your cocktails! We'll be making Buck's Fizzes (another cocktail with champagne/prosecco and orange juice)!! Thank you for all the wonderful videos and recipes you have shared!
Happy New Year - I loved this video. l do know of at least one Italian cocktail without anty orange. That is the Hugo Spritz which has mint leaves, elderflower liqueur, prosecco, and aqua frisante. It's sweeter than I prefer but totally delicious. Thanks for being awesome!
The Negroni was the first cocktail I ever tasted. It was the cocktail that my dad drank every evening as an aperitif at the bar. I was 12/13 years old and of course I just wet my lips, but still... I don't like spritz because unfortunately I don't like any type of wine (or beer for that matter). The spread of the spritz throughout Italy is relatively new. I remember that 25 years ago my cousin from Veneto came to visit me in Tuscany and complained that at the bar they didn't know what spritz was, it spread a few years later, now it's like ordering water. Happy New Year!!!
Hau’oli makahiki hou from Hawaii! What a delightful year watching you in 2023. I eagerly await more from you both! Many blessings to you all. By the way, I grinned when that near miss on measuring of a shot. Subtle indication Eva was having a good time.😊
Aperol Spritz is just a staple. The best one we had, is always at Bar Italia in Salo Lago di Garda. The secret here is that the glass is full to the brim with ice cubes. That keeps your Spritz cold and with a lot of ice cubes the melting process starts not as fast, which keeps your drink from getting watery.
😂 You two should make cocktail videos more often. This was delightful. 😊 A very Happy New Year to you both. I find your videos fun, and I think Ava is amazing, both as a cook and a narrator. You're okay too, Harper. ❤
Happy New Year to you all! 🥂 How are you celebrating the end of 2023?
Going to bed at 9pm😅
2023 was a tough year for us so we're celebrating with good friends, great food & yummy drinks.
Home, French Champagne, appetizers…. Holiday Inn starring Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire
@juliabishop1408 that was my original plan but my friends had a different idea... which is why I've started cooking early today. I'm making Beef Wellington and everyone else is bringing something equally yummy to share. (I made macarons earlier this week for our dessert.)
Happy New Year to both of you and your families, Bellini has no orange 😉
Eva (and of course, her hair) are fabulous normally. Tipsy Eva is next level fabulous!!!! LOVE THIS!!!!! We need her on "Drunk History - Italy!!" to continue telling us about Garibaldi!
The Italian American Museum in New Orleans has a statue of Garibalbi in the courtyard 💚🤍❤
She should go and see Max Miller from Tasting History and do a collab!
The state fish of California is the Garibaldi, a large damselfish which is pretty much the color of that cocktail. It looks like a giant goldfish.
@@joecrowaz Garibaldi !!

Tipsy Eva is the cutest thing ever! I love that the teacher in her is still teaching. 😂

Ah, but Valencias are not in season around New Year. They are ready at least 6-8 weeks later. They are the last orange harvest. (Here in Florida.)

The story about Garibaldi is accurate and the idea of the whole modern Italian history in two cocktails is pretty convincing! 😂🎉

I laughed. I cried (from laughing). Thanks for the delicious cocktail ideas, and HNY!
😂 You two should make cocktail videos more often. This was delightful. 😊 A very Happy New Year to you both. I find your videos fun, and I think Ava is amazing, both as a cook and a narrator. You're okay too, Harper. ❤
12:17 has Eva had a few too many?? 😂 When I lived in Italy we would finish special meals with some grappa for “digestion.” That stuff is stroooong!!
Happy New Year folks 🎉
Such a beautiful channel
You deserve a rest + celebration
I enjoy + also LEARN so much about Italian food 😘
Ok, this was hysterical and fun! Love your channel! 🎉
Looks like you had alot of fun with this video. Happy New Year!
So fun! I have not developed a taste for Compari but do love the Aperol spritz. Maybe I just need to try harder? Haha!
