Awesome finds, Nugget. By the looks of it, I would say that the medal is British. Thanks for sharing the video. It is always a pleasure to watch your adventures. God bless.
Keep it up! I love your videos. You are the one who got me into detecting, and it is great! First time my dad and I have done something together for years. Thanks man!
So true!!! But in the beginning we're left in the frige...ha,ha,ha. Pick up your junk and take it with you. They have a car I don't so I do what I can.
@GhostCity Shelton Even a little is helpful,, which is all anyone can expect from another. Decades back when responsibility was a given, people returned home with their junk or threw it away in the proper manner. That helped in diminishing pollution. That's not the case with some in this generation, sadly enough, and as you said, not everyone has the luxury of driving here and there as they wish to in order to metal detect. Carrying your gear must be a real hassle unless you have a ride to those places. What some have done is to rebury big or heavy items they don't or can't carry back with them, so that might be an option for you. IF it's in a wooded area, leave it propped up against a tree for someone else who might be interested in having it.
Michael, nice finds after a long day's hunt! The medal is British, I think. My Nanny used to nail a silver dime over the lintel of the front door when they moved into a new house, while Granddaddy nailed a horseshoe on the outside (they were share cropper farmers.) Usually neither lasted long, as my Granddaddy was a notorious drunkard and would soon steal the silver to buy more beer, and Nanny would chuck the horseshoe at his head....good times....NOT!
Keep digging and you will find amazing things? Who knows you might find a ring? I think you did great finding what you did? Try going to some beaches? Maybe you might find a meteor rock then you will hit the jack pot.
Some pretty cool finds their nugget. Love Mercury dimes! And that metal was a real cool fine too. Thank you for the video keep them coming. Take care and be safe.
NugggetNoggin is the Man! Me and My Partner have been inspired by you to launch a channel about Metal Detecting! Thank you so much for the year and a half so for of great quality content.
Amen, Nora. But he probably has a washer n dryer in that cute house. No more lye soap, wash board and the wringer. (But dang, those got even the dirtiest work clothes clean!)
@@Bobofet241 😂😂😂😂 if I were his mom, I would have taught him to do his own laundry a few years before HS graduation. and I suspect he can do for himself very well. Too bad my nephews aren't that well-balanced.
From my "personal experience" bullets make nice large rounded holes, not tiny square ones!!! More likely than not the hole was made by a old square nail or spike. People back in the day used to nail coins in & above doorframes to commemorate something important to them. Similar to today's practice of sticking a coin in wet concrete, masonry work etc.
@@truthbetold01 : Your correct in the fact that square nails were not in common use in 1944 in most areas, but in rural areas they were still everywhere. I lived on a rural farmstead until 2011 that was built in the early 1800's & we had literally thousands of them in jars, buckets. People in rural areas tend to save everything for possible future use. Waste not, want not, but since the buildings on the property no longer exist, we will never know for sure.
It's amazing how we have to pull fifty pounds of scrap to find the good stuff! But as the scripture says "Seek and ye shall find". Happy travels! Beeps.
I am watching your video's to learn how to do this. I have just retired and this looks like so much fun. Saving my money for metal detector. Can not wait.
That medal might be an Order of the Crown medal, a number of European countries have those, Belgium, Italy, Romania, Netherlands for example. It looks a bit crude though, like a toy replica maybe? But if it is, what a story it must have to end up in a field on the other side of the Atlantic. Thanks for another great video and God bless.
The medal you found is British. It is a Distinguished Service cross from the WWI time period. You should check back with the landowners and see if they had British ancestors that fought in WWI.
I hunt new areas by depth, I do by reducing the sensitivity of the detector. Sometimes targets at the 3-inch level block those deeper targets. That's what I do
@@bluegrassdiggers9030 really, here in northern vermont we have over 4 feet of snow with banks up to 8 feet high. so ya it does snow. but this has been a real hard winter even for us. heres a pic to see how much there is here. imgur.com/JRio1fp
I found a ring like yours... it’s a distinctive setting from the late 1800s, called a Belcher setting, named after the designer. Most were wedding rings, low k gold, with diamonds.
really enjoy your videos,,,But had to laugh at the snow coming down, I live in the U.P. of Michigan,,we got our first snow in early Nov, and still snowing a little over 10 ft,, Kept the Video coming..
Your fob (medal) could also be German. Some of the war-era iron cross fobs featured a crown tho the edges were usually more angular. Sans markings, you probably won't find more info, but that cross (with or without crown) was a relatively common design. I highly doubt it was a medal, as the British medals carried the initials of the ruler at time of issue. ETA: - Almost every fraternal organization used the iron cross type symbol at one time or another. From the eagles to the masons.
You do work hard at digging, Nugget... Would the holed Merc have been a target? Can you tell if it's been shot? I hear there's still MOAR bad weather headed your way - Winter doesn't want to quit up there, and we need RAIN! Happy hunting! 👍🐾😊

Check out those wheat pennies. One from an accidental batch from 1943 is worth anywhere from $10K to $1.7M. I don't remember the exact batch but I know that they were accidentally minted in copper right after they stopped using copper.
Hey nugget I love the videos. I have watched just about every one of them. Any way you could ever give some more history about the house sites or fields that you are searching. I think it would be interesting.
I live in South Dakota and we are buried under about 60 inches of snow right now. Watching this vid and looking over at my detector leaning up against the wall just waiting for thaw to finally get here. She's getting sad just sitting here....about to have my kids throw a bunch of pennies out in the snow just so I can go find something. (Keep up the good work, love the channel)
