Sweeping up our ITV ident collection, here are some from the following outfits: ITV Generic 1989; TWW, Westward, Channel, Southern, TSW, Meridian, Ulster, TVAM & GMTV.
TV-am's ident is something really special, bearing in mind that it was animated from a sequence of pastel drawings. That must have taken quite some work. The two colour Channel TV idents, I've always had trouble accepting that these were actually part of the ITV network and not the intro to an 80's VHS.
Agreed. I've only just noticed the similarity between freeze-frames at 1:32 and 2:08 - that was crying out for a morph from one to the other at those exact points, but I'm not aware of anyone ever having tried it!
@@StavrosDalek Interesting, I didn't know that. It always looked like the leaves of an abstract Palm Tree with a river beneath it. According to the man whom created it though, it wasn't supposed to represent anything, just a lot of graphics.
I love the simplicity of the colour Southern one. Simply guitar jingle, beautiful simplistic logo. TVS wasn't bad. Always hated Meridian. I also hated when ITV decided it needed an overall brand and we got that ITV monstrosity. Much preferred regional identities. It's been great seeing all these, and this lot made me realise that I guess TSW didn't make any content that I watched as I'd never seen those idents before!
Lots of the ITV companies said "up yours" to the generic look in 1989, so we only got to see those when we visited an area whose ITV station was using it, whilst TVS [ which was my region at the time] updated their logo in 1987. I only saw the TSW original ident when we visited my cousin in Devon. Other times that we heard Dundas' tune for "get ready" was when it was used for ITV weather.
+Rusty Ralston there are loads missing from our collection, which isn't surprising as one of the biggest collections we have access to has only been digitized up to 1986, so far.
Probably because that face was on ships, and the word "meridian" derives from "meridianolis" (of the south) and the south is associated with ships... I guess....

Blooming' love the Meridian idents - so classy!

I hated them...preferred TVS.
Ahhh, the West Country. Famous for our pasties and ITV Idents. And Gus Honeybun. Bless.
Meridian’s first logo is my absolute hands-down favorite! I love it tho *LOL*
I think the first TSW one has always been one of my favourite idents, I mean, I know the visuals don't make very much sense, but that music though!
i agree!

@@StavrosDalek But weren't Gloucestershire and Somerset served by HTV and Wiltshire by TVS then?
Kajshzosboasbka
@@sienekebd Probably both. There was a fair bit of overlap in those days. I have a friend that used to pick up TVS in Epping of all places.
Yep, Southern for me. And of course Tv-am my first earner!

The early TVS one always seemed a bit dated for the early 80s, especially in contrast with TSW.

At 2:30 that Ulster ideny sounds like a lullaby
I think it does too
The thumbnail is the TSW logo.
Other than Grampian Television the jdent for southern was good too.
How did you find the high quality logos like TV-am?
Nice

In the meridean TV logo I wonder what the two faces represent
Day and night... Hopefully, I'm right
