Just got this game from Deep Water's sale and had a really good first impression of the game, but it's crazy how bad the rulebook is for such a simple game. In addition to the ambiguity with placement rules, even the wording of the rules for what constitutes a square is incorrect. Can't remember off the top of my head but I didn't have high hopes for the game after reading the instructions. Wasn't able to finish a game before I had to go, but I'm excited to get back home and go through it a few times! Great video! Subbed
Yes the rules are terrible and full of holes. Typical for Kickstarter virgin creators. The answer to almost all Can I? questions is No. With some exceptions.
I talked to the designer a bunch after this video came out and she was saying that for the retail release the rulebook will be one of the biggest improvements, so definitely going in the right direction! What were some of the thing you found unclear in the rules?
@@DragonsDemize I mentioned 7 or 8 in the KS comment section. Mostly it is about what you can and cannot cover. For example, you can cover part of a treasure card but then it won't count, it must be fully visible. But can you cover up a crystal token on a treasure card while the treasure is still fully visible? Once a gem is freed and hence placed on a 2x2 grid made up of cards, you can slide over any card as long as the ones you covered are not changed. For example if you lighted an orb with a yellow 3 finger crystal next to it, you can cover it with a card with a yellow 3 finger on it. Same holds for the circle item. But the whole 2x2 thing is not mentioned ANYWHERE in the rulebook. It''s an essential concept. I'm all ok with emergent rules that are not written down, as long as everytime you come across them there is the obvious same outcome that you figure out. But here, the rules are so.. random, you can argue either way. That's mostly what bugs the game. If the rules confuse me, I cannot play the game, I cannot teach the game, nobody will enjoy the game. Liberty once wrote she scored 1 short of the theoretical maximum score, so she must have the rules clearly in her head, we just need to get that info.
@@DragonsDemize Well 5:17 certainly is NOT allowed. Thematically it could no longer be able to hold the crystal in the orb place. 5:26 is allowed, but your treasure is no longer valid. 5:32 is just weird, but you are correct, it is not forbidden in the rules.

Thank you!
I love this game. Can’t wait to try it solo. 🥰
It's a really fun puzzle game! We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
