    Just changed my plugs this morning. NEVER did this on a scooter let alone one I just brought home Monday.03 650 with 4485 miles that was sitting in the sellers garage for 3 years. Dead battery, stinky gas very dirty oil. New battery today also. Waiting on my new oil filters to make a change. Took it out for a shakedown run... SCARY FAST for a scooter. Can't wait to ride with my buddies on their Indians & Harleys. Thanks so much for the tips on this video. BIG HELP!

    Notes from just doing the spark plug change on my 2011 burgman 650.
    1) holding the radiator back with some tie straps helped me a bunch. The radiator kept closing in on my hand.
    2) loses up the cable harness from the little tie in the upper left. It's mentioned in the video as well.
    3) disconnect the two coil pack connectors and the one sensor connector to the right of the first coil pack. This frees up any interference with the coil packs. The coil packs I though were stuck cane out easy after I disconnected the 3 connectors
    4) not sure if it's mentioned in the video but use a magnetic 5/8 spark plug deep well and a short extension that made the job easier. I used one that had a 6 inch swivel extension attached from autozone
    I needed a new front tire and brake pads so I did it with the tire and fender removed. That probably makes it slightly easier.

    What a nightmare job getting to, releasing the coil, and then re-installing the plug and coil. As far as seating the new plug goes, I have had to guess at the correct amount of pressure to apply as there is no way of getting a 3/8" torque wrench in that gap.
    Also, you seemed to have more room than me getting your hand to the right hand coil, so next time I do this job, I'm going to disconnect the pivot screws on the right hand side of the radiator just to give that little bit extra room.
    Just something that I did a little different to you was that I disconnected the coil plug before attempting to remove the left hand coil. I figured it would stress the wiring loom less, but no big deal.

    Although the coil over boots are snug, it is still best practice to use a can of compressed air to blast the spark plug recess BEFORE removing the plugs. That brand of spark plug is factory treated with a ceramic thread coating and anti-siez is not recommended.

    I have 2011 with 30K miles and I had to replace the front tire so while it was off , figured I would do the brakes and spark plugs since i could swing the radiator out more. Nopem does not seem to make a difference since the lower coolant hose won't strecth out. Bigger issue issue is I can't get the dang coil pack out. I dont want to force it too much and break it. I may try again later when i can take the radiator off , do a coolant change. Any advice on stuck coil packs ? i hate to just give up.

    Use Iridium plugs next time, last longer.

    • @ManCaveMayhem
      @ManCaveMayhem 2 года назад

      They definitely do but Platinum and Iridium plugs perform at a lower level than copper spark plugs, because they are less conductive and they tend to overheat. However, the overall longevity of these two types of metal is better than copper plugs. In reality, copper has the best performance of all three and the least longevity.
